The building is formed by analysing the shadow of the adjacent buildings at specific times of the year which refers to the critical dates of Sherlock Holmes. It fits into the area of shadow and solves the natural mystery bonded to time and sun.

Gateway Project
Group Project. Third Year. Bachelor of Environments. The Gateway Project is done in a parametric design studio. I was working on this as the leader of a three-person team. The project aims to understand and develop parametric design skills using Rhino and Grasshopper. Our team chose pattern as the major topic to apply on our design. And understand architecture as discourse. The subject asked us to design a landmark on Princes Highway, south west of Melbourne between Werribee and CBD.
7
The sculpture sits on Princes Highway, connecting Wyndham and Melbourne CBD. It goes over the highway from the side directing to CBD to the side of Werribee. The height of the form suggests the speed of development of Werribee and Melbourne. The beginning of the form, sitting on the right side of the road, aiming towards city is lower than the left side towards Werribee. Site Plan
Werribee City
N
The form which across over the road emphasises the effect of the pattern, as well as relates to Wyndham City. The façade moves people’s attention from city at right side to Werribee at the left side. The surfaces are tilted facing the driver to display the pattern.

Double skin effect is tested with both fabrication prototype and grasshopper model of our pattern. Changing of the viewing angle from driver causes the pattern overlap changes, which result in the movement of pattern and unexpected experience. The ellipse pattern is found to be the most dynamic pattern with double layer, which is held by hexagonal structural frame. The form of the sculpture emphasises the effect of pattern change.

Structural exploration is done to test the workability of the design. A detail model at 1:10 is made by laser cut timber and screws.

Boathouse
Individual work. Second Year. Bachelor of Environments For this specific studio I was asked to study one of the modern architecture masters and learn their way to design. I designed this builiding as an approach to the style of Alvar Aalto. The project locates on the bank of Yarra River, surrounded by slope and trees. The subject asked to design a boathouse for boat hire and dining. The house includes restaurant, cafe, kitchen, kiosk, and office.
11
The angles and large windows which Aalto uses a lot are applied to the building to take advantage of sunlight. The building is covered by dark timber and white bricks, creating the contrast on its facade and differentiate the parts of the building.

The interlaced floors between restaurant, kitchen and boat hire office optimise circulation.
Restaurant
The kitchen can be easily accessed from both cafe on ground level restaurant on first floor since it is in between, thanks to interlaced level. The interior stairs in made of timber which is one of Aalto’s favorite material.

Unearthing Discovery Centre
Individual work. Second Year. Bachelor of Environments. I was assigned to design a discovery centre in the environment displaying aboriginal culture on a part of Herring Island, Melbourne. *The subject requires to design completely by hand drawing. The form of the building is inspired by the element of rain and river from aboriginal art. The building goes underground for people to embrace the nature.
