Sony NEX-3 Review SEP 10, 2010 05:29P.M.
We sign in, and within 10 minutes, we’ve seen photo albums of our our Art History professor’s gem collection and our crush’s trip to the Kennedy Space Center (swoon!). Facebook hands us a magnifying glass, showing us see each others’ lives in an astoundingly close-up view. Phillip Maisel got to thinking about that – about technology, photographs, and how memories are stored and shared. He grabbed his digital camera, and setting it on a long exposure, took a photo of his computer screen while he clicked through a Facebook photo album.
The NEX-3 the second mirrorless system camera from Sony and the baby brother of the NEX-5. With a 14 megapixel APS HD CMOS sensor, 720p HD movies, high-res 3 inch tilting screen and external flash, the

The Sword and the Rose
NikonSmallWorld.com
SEP 09, 2010 01:00A.M. Last year’s 4th place winner, James E Hayden, took this image of an Anglerfish ovary at 4X magnification. Nikon’s annual “International Small World Photography Competition” offers scientists and photographers shooting at the microscopic level a chance to have their work recognized—it also offers the public a chance to catch a glimpse of the strange and mesmerizing world we overlook everyday. Past entries have included everything from soap bubbles to lobster eggs, cotton-fibers to snowflakes and everything in between. Judges pick and award prizes to the top twenty entries. There is still time to submit to next year’s competition—the deadline is April 30, 2011. Anybody shooting images with the use of a microscope is eligible to enter regardless of the subject matter. In the mean time, the winners of this year’s competition will be announced on October 13, 2010. Click the link to take a look through this year’s top entries and to rate your favorites. http://www.nikonsmallworld.com/vote

Internationally respected for his depictions of masses at play in various beach scenes, ski locations and tourist destinations, Vitali has garnered praise since he began photographing in this signature style in 1994. His subjects, often sunbathers and tourists, forget about his presence, as he waits for moments such as the one shown here while perched 20 feet in the air on a platform. The exhibition opens September 11, 2010 and runs through October 16, 2010. Concurrent with the exhibition is the release of Vitali’s third monograph published by Steidl titled Landscapes with Figures 2.

John Chiara doesn’t just get behind the lens, he gets inside the camera SEP 08, 2010 05:32A.M. John Chiara is one of those photographers whose approach and craft is truly humbling in its creativity and scale. Based in California, John shoots one image a day using his home-built, larger-than-life, pinholestyle film camera that he has fixed upon a trailer to allow for travel. John truly takes the idea of “getting behind the lens” to a new level, as he must literally climb inside of the camera to load it with a giant sheet of paper coated with light-sensitive chemicals (he than exits the camera through a long tunnel that appears to be made out of garbage bags). John admits that his technique is somewhat primitive and that he doesn’t use modern light meters or even a stopwatch to make his
