Hermannstadt V
All photos © Michael Tummings. Above: Hermannstadt VI “This moment is full of tension, loaded with possibility and suspended silence”. Michael Tummings says,” The hunter waits in silence, stilling his movement and reducing his breath to a minimum. Waiting and watching, he attempts to become invisible, to disappear into the natural background. Here, the external and internal noises, the distractions of modernity, are cancelled out in a single moment– a spasm of time that is irreversible. These photographs reference the classic European tradition of paintings depicting the hunt, in addition to 20th century photographic portraiture. The rituals and divisions of class are inherent to the images in Hidden, as are both the modernization and preservation of tradition. Employing 5 x 4 analogue photography, the series uses a detached camera eye to observe the social dynamics of the group, its rituals, and the ways in which they are infused with meaning.”

Haltadefinizione or HAL9000 (Open the bay doors HAL), is an Italian project that undertakes the process of photographing extremely highdefinition images of famous paintings and putting them online for everyone to see.
IPA Photo Contest OCT 05, 2010 06:00P.M.
Works already available in their interactive online gallery-viewer include: Da Vinci’s Last Supper and Annunciation, Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus, Verrocchio and Leonardo’s The Baptism of Christ, Gaudenzio Ferrari’s Life Stories of Christ, Pontormo’s Deposition, Agnolo Bronzino’s Elanor of Toledo, Francesco Paolo Michetti’s The Daughter of Iorio and Caravaggio’s Bacchus. Earlier works that were photographed, like The Last Supper, consisted of 16 billion pixels, although some of the newly photographed works consist of a mind-blowing 28 billion pixels (which is technically less than half the pixels of the “world’s largest photo,” a 70-gigapixel image of Budapest). The images are made up of thousands of individual photographs taken with Nikon cameras (newer images were shot with D3X’s while older ones were shot with D2X’s).
The International Press Association (IPA) has announced a unique photo contest to help launch their new Member Support Blog on their website. Read more and comment »
The project’s Web site claims that the goal of taking such detailed images is to provide an experience that one could only previously get through viewing each respective painting in person—although with 28 billion pixels, one can zoom in on a painting (via the online gallery-viewer) to a point that previously could only be seen using a magnifying device.

While we still highly recommend seeing these famous works of art in person if you have the chance, viewing them on Haltadefinizione’s site is a real treat. The detail that can be seen when zoomed all the way in is unbelievable. For more information, check out Haltadefinizione’s site.

Nikon Coolpix P7000 Review
OCT 05, 2010 01:00A.M.
OCT 04, 2010 10:30P.M.
Nikon have been closely competing with Canon in the DSLR arena for many years, but they’ve always come second-best (or worse) in the compact camera market. The new Coolpix P7000 is a clear attempt to redress that balance, with a completely revised design that is aiming for the jugular of the market-leading Canon PowerShot G-series. Read our in-depth Nikon Coolpix P7000 review to find out if it can topple the King from his throne...
© Jan Banning Jan Banning says, “This photo was made in the Old Secretariat in Patna, Bihar, India, while working on my project ‘Bureaucratics’. Because of the strong diagonal, I considered it too ‘dynamic’ to be included in the book or the exhibition of the same name. How dynamic was the situation in this typeroom really? When I entered, of the dozen or so people in the room, two or three were snoring. Others had their feet on the desk and were comfortably – but living dangerously – leaning backward on their chair’s two hind legs, dozing away. One man was actually doing what I naively thought they were all supposed to do: typing. When asked why they kept this ‘typewriter graveyard’, he answered: ‘This is not a graveyard! These typewriters are awaiting new personnel. We’re 40% understaffed.”

2) Capture the pop Quicktips: Fast shutterspeed – around 1/500, use rapid fire shoot settings, take lots of photos (it took Richard a month to capture his series)
Manfrotto Distribution and Datacolor are offering a free Advanced Monitor Calibration Webinar.
3) Shoot your self portrait in a bubble (and other reflections!) Quicktips: Shoot on a non windy day, Richard shot at f/5, 1/400, ISO 400 for his bubble reflection self portrait, use a telephoto lens (you can use zoom, also) – for example, Richard usually shot at 70mm
