Location: Columbus, IN, USA Site:
220 ft x 60 ft
Program: archive, library, lecture hall, gallery, cafe, housing
3
This design studio started with designing only a section slice of the entire buildable volume. From there, 2D sections were generated to explain the early phase design concepts. As the project developed, a series of volumetric exercise were introduced to help sculpt the final building form according to the assigned programs. This design scheme is focusing on creating an atrium space that links the public wing and the private wing. While the perforated building envelope contributes to creating a special shadow pattern in the building, the adjustable atrium roof louvers will help either introduce or block natural light based on the needed activities in the space.

Wudaokou Subway Station
Location: Beijing, China Program: Re-design Wudaokou subway station while envisioning future traveling experience and potential implication of Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality/Mixed Reality. Software: Rhinoceros, Grasshopper, Autodesk Maya, Massmotion, Unreal Engine
21
This design studio is intended to investigate the ways how latest visual enhancement technologies can be incorporated into architectural designs and theoretically inhabitants will perceive improved navigation experience while they travel through space. Throughout the design process, VR/AR/MR technologies have been vastly experimented at every major spatial conjunction point to provide travelers intuitive interactive interface to acquire traveling related information. Additionally, Agent-Based-Simulation software (Massmotion) was introduced to assist students in maximizing the efficiency of the overall station circulation design. 22

The size of each canopy panel is determined by the rooftop solar radiation analysis results where the most baked areas are shaded with larger opaque panels (or solar panels). Correspondingly, areas with less solar influence are covered with relatively smaller opaque panels to improve indoor light quality by introducing more daylight.

Row House
Location: George Rogers Clark Park, Covington, KY, USA Site:
135 ft x 25 ft
Type:
Single Family House
Program: grandma’s bedroom, boy’s bedroom, girl’s bedroom, couple’s bedroom, and other necessary functional space and amenity space
35
This design exercise focuses on: daylighting, privacy vs openness, flexible design. While fulfilling each family member’s unique needs about their living space, this proposal offers the client family several pragmatic features that can potentially improve their life quality and install upgrades in the future. For example, the courtyard garden can provide a pleasant view along with all the major circulation passages (1st floor to rooftop) and primary common space (kitchen, dining room, and living room on 2nd floor). Additionally, there is a reserved pocket space which can be used to install a lift device in the future if needed aside grandma’s room.

Pseudo Vertical (High Line, NYC) Group Project (3 members)
As a semester-long project, the objective of this design studio is to understand the “vertical-scape as a self-generating, autopoietic entity in which systems and typologies are in a continuous flux. By definition, the Pseudo Vertical is a radical vertical proposition generated by the fragmentation of existing tower types and their reassembly in a porous collective. Starting with deconstruction and reassemble precedent skyscrapers in NYC, design teams are formed according to their tectonic characteristics and each student within each team is assigned to a unique program. In my team, the 3 programs are: Interchanger (me) Cirque du Soleil Buddha Bar 45
Since the program asks for no clear final results, the design concept is inspired and generated incrementally through each design step and iteration. In the end, the Pseudo Vertical is assembled by stacking double height floor unit, which is modeled by connecting 3 different base units, into a skeleton frame armature. Afterwards, the tower is printed with 3 potions by powder 3D printer and rooted into a casted cement base with basswood frame.

Moody Nolan The drawings are the overall building elevations I have worked on. The project was a community center for a city park in Columbus, OH. The primary tasks while working on the project’s construction documents can be summarized as: • Building elevations • Roof plans • Wall sections • Exterior wall plan details • Exterior windows 58
STUDIOS Architecture This is the a high-rise student housing project. The colored images present the solar radiation analysis diagrams that were generated in Grasshopper with Ladybug plug-in. The diagrams were used to determine the location and depth of the extruded bay windows and also the window patterns. The task was to develop the solar radiation analysis Grasshopper script.
59
This is a 3D printed site model to host and evaluate the design iterations of the same project. This site block is at scale 1 = 500’ and the dimension is 10 in x 8 in x 2 in (minimum height). Additionally, there are 8 more similar site blocks 3D printed to combine with this center site block to form an urban scale site model which is 30 in x 24 in x Height (varies, min. 2in). One of the main tasks was to model and 3D print all the site blocks according to the current site condition. Besides, each design scheme was also required to be 3D printed for project massing studies within the design team. 60
61
BHDP On page 59, this model was a 3D printed entrance and it was one of the experimental prints to explore the 3D printer. The model was printed at 3/32“ = 1’ - 0 scale to test both the thickness limitation of the resin 3D printer (top image) and also the maximum resolution resin 3D printer can print (bottom image).
The task was to prepare digital models for 3D printing and 3D print them for client meetings/in-house meetings.
On page 60, it was a 3D print model of a reception desk that was designed by the firm for a client.
