EcoSlice Tennis ball recycling squeegee
EcoSlice is a project inspired by lots of waste that caused by playing tennis. And also because of the subtropical monsoon climate, it rains a lot in Taiwan. Raining is the biggest problem for people who like to exercise, tennis players especially. Therefore, I designed “EcoSlice, a squeegee consisting recycled tennis balls. EcoSlice not only reuses the waste, but also saves the original squeegee foam or rubber. It is certainly a novel way to dry out tennis courts after the rain and protect our earth.
PROBLEMS Rain City - Taipei - 155 rainy days per year - Tragedy for tennis lovers
Large Number of Annual Waste - 300 million tennis balls - 14,700 metric tons of rubber - Hardly biodegradable
Original Squeegee - Difficult installation - Frequent breakdown - Improper usage - Damages the court
10
CONCEPT Combining the largest waste of tennis, tennis balls, with the squeegee. Cut the balls into separate parts, and use the rubber inside the ball to replace the original squeegee foam or rubber.
11
DRY
PROTOTYPES I tried to cut the balls in different ways to find the best form which has the greatest strength and the ability to collect water. Two prototypes was made to find out the ways to install the ball parts and how they work on collecting water. I tried several times using acrylic windows to set the actual size and spacing for the ball parts.
12
HUMAN FACTOR TESTING / FIRST 3D MODELING The 1:1 mockup was made to make sure the squeegee is in proper size. The result showed that I needed to widen and bend the blade part in order to have a higher efficiency.
13

USAGE AND INSTALLATION: - Take out the handle from the pole. - Put the ball into the cutting aid. - Cut the ball along the cutting track. - Take out the ball and cut off the connections. - Put the parts in the fixture. - Lock the fixture.
FEATURES: - One tennis ball can be divided into two squeegee parts. - While using EcoSlice, the ball parts spread and there will be no gaps. - The U-shape can prevent the water from flowing to other areas. - The bent pole is in accordance with human factor. - The length of the pole is adjustable. - The knife on the handle is protected by an acrylic cup, so people will hardly be hurt. 14

Qi Liu Personal air purifier
In this project, I used SCENARIO MATRIX to predict the problems that are highly possible to happen in the future. And air pollution is one of them. Therefore, I designed Qi Liu, a personal air purifier that provides clean air by creating an air curtain in front of the user’s nose. Unlike regular masks that might not be protective enough or suitable for long term use, Qi Liu lets users to breathe freely and safely without extra effort.

SCENARIO MATRIX The purpose of using scenario matrix is to find out the problems that is highly possible to happen in the future. “Lifestyle simplification” and “Restoring the world” are the trends for future casting. There are four possible future in the matrix. The problems appear more than once is more likely to happen. AIR POLLUTION is one of common problems I found in the scenario matrix.

PROBLEM - AIR POLLUTION 656,000 Death Per Year People die prematurely each year in china because of air pollution
PM2.5 - More toxic - Travels deeper into the lungs - Only N95 mask is useful for blocking PM2.5 - N95 is not suitable for long term use

CONCEPT Portable Air Purifier - Lightweight - Powerful - Quiet
Three Types Of Tube - Nasal cannula - Air curtain (upward) - Air curtain (downward)
Human Breath - One Breath: 500ml - Resting: 5 – 8 liter/min - Light activities: 12 liters/min - Moderate exercise: 40–60 liters/min
Centrifugal Fan - Quieter than axial-flow fan - More pressure for a given air volume - Save more energy
3M P95 Filter - Filter out PM 2.5 - Filter out oil and non-oil based particles

Future Classroom Comfortable furniture design
Sponsored by
Co-design with Yi Jiang, Penn Greene and Sai Prakash The purpose of this project is to define “COMFORT in different scenarios. Our team researched and selected future classroom as our target market. The furniture set is adapting to dynamic classroom setting that allows students to be seated in different ways according to different activities.
MARKET AND TREND Classroom Furniture Market worths 2.1billion U.S. dollars in 2010.
Smart Phone Market has grown from 270 million units in 2010 to 775 million units in 2015.
Tablet Market has grown from 18 million units in 2010 to 318 million units in 2015.

COMFORT IN FUTURE CLASSROOM Technology is changing the teacher's role. When every student has instant access to the wealth of knowledge online, the classroom becomes more a laboratory and less of a lecture hall. It is a space that needs to change and adapt. It needs to be a dynamic space.

Chophold Clean and handy chopsticks holder
Chophold is a set of chopsticks, napkins and chopsticks holder. The set is designed for Chinese restaurants where reusable plastic chopsticks are often used. Chophold provides a cleaner way for users to take the chopsticks out from the holder. The visual clue guides the users to take the chopsticks without touching the tips that make contact with food.

Hygiene Issue
PROBLEMS In Taiwanese student restaurants, chopsticks are put into round cans or big boxes. The top of the sticks would be in different directions, so users may touch the side of chopsticks that others put into their month. That might result in health and hygiene problems.
40
CONCEPT Use the form of a chopsticks holder to force users to take the middle of the sticks. The beautiful repetitions of the "U" shape makes it easier for users to pick up the last chopsticks. An extra space on both ends of the holder can hold some tissues.

3D Printed Lamp Customizable 3D printing service
The trend of 3D printing is changing product design industry. The hardware are becoming cheaper and more services are on the way. People can make their stuffs with a relatively low budget. However, it’s not convenient for those who are not design profession to learn 3D printing. Therefore, I designed a 3D printed lamp service which provides users a platform to build their own lamp.
STRUCTURE The shape of the lamp is a dodecahedron. There are 30 coverings connected together by using 20 yellow joints.
46
47
CUSTOMIZATION Users can design their own lamp style on the website. You can modify the covering by controlling the shape, color, transparency and the number of pieces on the covering.
48
PREVIEW OF LIGHTING EFFECT You can preview the effect of turning on the light bulb during the design process. And you still can go back to edit all the detail by turning off the light.
