A STUDY OF CITYCELL Organisational Hierarchy:

Parent Country: Citycell (Pacific Bangladesh Telecom Limited) has started their journey from Bangladesh in Feb, 1996. Its parent country is Bangladesh. Because it’s maximum share holders are Bangladeshi company. It has been converted into a Public Limited Company with effect from 28 March, 2008 in compliance with the Notification No. SEC/CMRRCD/2006-159/Admin03/23 of Securities and Exchange Commission of Bangladesh. Area: Citycell has already covered the whole country. It is the first cellular company of Bangladesh which has covered the 64 districts of Bangladesh. Citycell's network is available throughout Bangladesh, including the 3 Hill Tract Districts of Chittagong. The company continuously invests in network expansion programs designed to upgrade technology and add capacity to support its ever-increasing customer base

Activities:

Area of Citycell

Citycell (Pacific Bangladesh Telecom Limited) is mainly a cellular company; its most activities are cellular service related. But it also does many activities which are not related to its main activities. Some of its activities are:


- Connecting people. - Producing Rim Card. - Selling Rim Card activated Mobiles. - Roaming. - Creating Internet Access. - Creating Network Coverage. - Creating Employment. - Giving service to people with Call Center and Customer Care. - Handset Service Center. Corporate Social Activities (CSA): Citycell is also doing its social responsibilities besides its regular activities. Some social activities of Citycell are shown below: Citycell stands beside underprivileged children Citycell recently joined hands with Dhaka Shishu Hospital. Citycell CEO Mr. Michael Seymour handed over a cheque worth Tk.490,000 to Dr. Salim Shakur, Director of Dhaka Shishu Hospital at a ceremony at the hospital on March 15, 2008. The donation will go towards a year’s maintenance of 14 non-paying beds in the malnutrition ward for the most impoverished patients of the hospital

This ceremony was organized by SAARC Women's Association which is involved in different projects for raising funds to support disadvantaged communities of society.


Representatives of Dhaka Shishu Hospital, SAARC Women’s Association and Citycell discussed the current situation and requirements for the betterment of the institute. Mr. Seymour went around various wards of the hospital to observe the condition of the ailing children. He appreciated the sincere efforts of the hospital staff and expressed Citycell’s commitment to be a part of this endeavor. Dr. Md. Hanif, Professor of Pediatric Department, Dr. A. R. Khan, Pediatric Surgeon, Dr. Mahbub Hassan, Deputy Director of Medical, Dr. Shahid Hasan, Deputy Director of Administration, Mr. Shah Alam, Deputy Director of Finance and Dr. Riaz Mubarak, Assistant Professor of Dhaka Shishu Hospital were present on behalf of Dhaka Shishu Hospital. Ms. Amna Rahman, President, Sonya Panni Tondorf, Secretary and Munira Tabani, Former Secretary of SAARC Women’s Association, Dr. Anand Rajasingham, Head of Marketing, Mr. Kym Goldsworthy, Head of Operations Support, Ms. Sania Mahmood, General Manager, Marketing Communications and Branding, Mr. Naushad M. Kamal, Senior Executive, Marketing Communications and Branding of Citycell were also present during the program. Citycell stands beside SIDR victims In the wake of the devastating cyclone Sidr which wreaked destruction across Bangladesh, Citycell initiated immediate relief operations to assist victims at Rampal, one of the worst affected areas of Bagerhat District.

Abdul Mannan Khan, Zakir Hossain Khan and other officials of Citycell, in cooperation with local authorities and Bangladesh Scouts, distributed basic food assistance of rice, daal, potato, salt, and saline to 600 cyclone affected families in 3 Unions (Rampal Sadar, 10 No.


Bashtoli Union, 2 No. Ujolkur Union) of Rampal Thana. TNO of Rampal Thana Masumur Rahman, Bashtoli Chairman Rezaul Karim and Magistrate Mahbubur Rahman, and Ujolkur Chairman Abdul Majid Sheikh and Scout Commissioner Sk Haider Ali Babu, were present among other officials during distribution of the relief materials. Citycell CEO Michael Seymour said that Citycell stands firmly beside the affected victims in this moment of national crisis. Citycell plays important role in countrywide Voter Registration activities Citycell recently extended its support to Election Commission to facilitate the Voter Registration activities across the country, being handled by Bangladesh Army. Citycell donated 50 Laptops, 50 Finger Scanners, 50 Webcams and 50 Voter Registration Software License Fees for these Voter Registration activities. Mr. Michael Seymour, Chief Executive Officer of Citycell handed over the items to General Moeen U Ahmed, Chief of Army at Army Head Office. Mr. Intekhab Mahmud, Chief Commercial Officer of Citycell was also present at this ceremony. Citycell stands beside flood victims Employees of Citycell contributed a day’s salary to the Chief Advisor’s Relief Fund, which was further topped up by one and a half times by the company for various flood relief programs. Among several relief initiatives undertaken by the company, a cheque worth Tk.10 lakh was donated to the Chief Advisor’s Relief Fund to support flood victims of the country. Mr. Michael Seymour, Chief Financial Officer of Citycell handed the cheque over to Dr. Fakhruddin Ahmed, Chief Advisor in the city recently. Citycell also distributed relief materials including rice, potato, cooking oil, salt, saline etc. in cooperation with Bangladesh Army to 250 flood affected families in Nandipara, Dhaka, in Kulkandi and Parthashi Unions in Islampur, Jamalpur. Relief goods were handed over to the Army Camp at Bhanga, Faridpur to be distributed among flood victims in the area as well. Additionally, a service campaign was launched whereby Citycell customers could donate Tk.10 by calling or sending SMS to 1010. Citycell helps victims of natural disaster in Chittagong As a responsible corporate entity, Citycell has extended its hand to help the victims of heavy rainfall and land slide caused in Chittagong recently. On 13th June, 2007 S.M.Sahabuddin Raj, General Manager, Regional Operations, Citycell handed over the relief materials to the Combined Force to distribute it among the victims in Lalkhanbazaar, Bakulia, Baluchora, Sakander Colony, and Kusumbagh. On this event, on behalf of Citycell were also present Mr. Fahim, Manager, Regional Opeartions, Sales; Zahid Mansoor, Syed Asad Mahmud, Md. Iftekhar Rosul, A.K.M. Osman, Shakil Ershad, Rahmotullah Rumi, Zahidul Karim, and Ahmed Nazimuddowla Zunaid.


Relief materials were also distributed at Chokoria in Cox’s Bazaar, at Porshuram in Comilla, Fulgazi, and Sitakundo. Citycell will continue its effort to improve the quality of lives of the disadvantaged community of the country. Citycell ties up with Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Citycell, the pioneer telecom operator of Bangladesh, signed up an agreement with Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) to carry out fund raising programs for human welfare through SMS. The fund collected through SMS was donated to BDRCS for the betterment of the society. Citycell distributes relief among fire victims On 4th March the fire burnt about 2000 huts-7 babies were burnt to death in the fire and many more were hurt in Bau Bazar area of Karail Slum, Gulshan. On 14th March, Citycell distributed relief materials among 2500 families who lost all their possessions due to a devastating fire. Citycell and MBA Club stage concert to raise money to ease flood hardship Citycell, through its community aid program Changing Lives, helped easing the hardship of those affected by organizing a concert in association with the MBA Club on the 6th of August. The concert, which was staged at the National Museum Auditorium in Dhaka, was organized with the specific objective to raise funds for the flood-affected people of the country. Performing at the concert were renowned Bangladesh artists Boogey & Friends, Feedback, Miles, LRB, Hassan, Pentagon, Mehreen, Kaniz Suborna, Warfaze, Partho, Starling, Shahed, Kumar Bishwajit, Ferdous Wahid and Habib. The concert was a great success, attracting a crowd of more than 700 people for the flood relief cause. Citycell donates money for the flood affected Citycell handed over a cheque of Tk. 25 lakh to Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia for the flood-affected people of the country. Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia appreciated Citycell’s initiative to help the people of the society.


Also present at this occasion was Faisal Morshed Khan, Vice Chairman; Tipu Sultan Mohammad, Director, Financial Control & Company Secretary; and Intekhab Mahmud, Chief Commercial Officer from Citycell. Citycell hands over relief to Rotary for the flood victims Citycell handed over relief for the flood affected to Rotary District Governor Office on 31st July 2004. At the gathering, 5,000 packets were given to Rotary District 3280 Governor Office that contained Chira, Gur, Saline, Candles and Matches. Distribution of these packets to the relief areas started on 1st August 2004. The areas that were covered for relief distribution were Sherpur, Brahmanbaria, Narshingdi, Bhairab, Manikgonj, and Munshiganj. Mr. Intekhab Mahmud, Chief Commercial Officer, Citycell and Rotarian Kazi Nazmul Haquetreasurer of Rotary Club Dhaka Urbana, Rotarian Syed Azizul Haque, President of Rotary Club Dhaka Urbana PHF, Rotarian Prof. Mizanur Rahman Shelly-Secretary of Rotary Club Dhaka Urbana, Rotarian A.K.M. Shamsuddin, District 3280 Governor, Rotarian Dr. Shamimuzzaman Bosu Mia - IPP, PHF were present at the gathering on behalf of their respective organizations. Citycell sponsors Saline-project Citycell sponsored the Saline-Project for helping the flood-affected people of the country. Under this project, the objective of Citycell was to produce 1,00,000 salines. 30 persons worked to produce 8000 saline everyday at the MBA Club premise. These salines were being provided to all interested organizations and individuals. Citycell helps intellectually disabled children of SWID Citycell, Bangladesh’s leading mobile communications provider, launched its community program ‘Citycell Changing Lives’ with a donation to the Society for the Welfare of the Intellectually Disabled (SWID). The Social Welfare Organization of Intellectually Disabled, was established in 1977 and operates 30 schools for the intellectually disabled throughout the country. 'Citycell Changing Lives' community program initiative will initially support 6 schools in Dhaka, Sylhet and Chittagong. Donated goods include toys such as lego sets, bells and dolls, as well as teaching materials such as pencils, paper and books. The goods will be distributed throughout the six schools in Dhaka, Sylhet and Chittagong.


This initiative was set up to consolidate the mobile operator’s various community initiatives. The initiative’s core objective is to help improve the quality of life of and open up new opportunities for disadvantaged people in Bangladesh. Citycell donates Physiotherapy Equipment On December 5, 2004, Citycell donated physiotherapy equipment to SEID Trust (Special Education for Intellectually Disabled Children) for the underprivileged and intellectually disabled children under Citycell’s community program ‘Citycell Changing Lives’. SEID Trust runs a school and a Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Program for the intellectually disabled.
