Therapeutic Landscape
Therapeutic Landscape is used as design guidance when designing my final architecture college project titled "Psychiatric Hospital in Yogyakarta with a Therapeutic Landscape Design Approach". Patients need some sort of healing -natural- element to their environment in order to feel serene and therefore minimized their level of stress and faster their healing process.
- Ulrich (1992)
The implementation of Therapeutic Landscape in the landscape design of this psychiatric hospital depart into two types of gardens, healing and enabling garden. Healing Gardens are aimed at the psychiatric patient and the general public people whereas the Enabling Garden focusing to be used by the general public people.
Healing Garden
Healing Garden is a garden that focuses on human mental restoration activities through nature. There are multiple healing garden attractions put into the facilities. For example, walk-around-forest, reflection pond park, water fountain, and zen garden.
Enabling Garden
Enabling Garden is a garden that focuses on human physical activities and human connection to nature. This garden is aimed at the general public people to increase their well-being and minimize their chance to get acute mental problems. Some attractions put into this garden are plantation garden, sightseeing deck, jogging track, children playground, and gym park.
