Innovation in architecture questions the way things are done and requires an argument which transcends the mere concerns and competencies of a building or typology. Innovation requires challenging the fundamental theory in particular typology. The theory that ultimately involves in concept of reverts and challenges a typology and a society. Throughout my studies in architecture, I believe that architecture could manifest more than just delivering a bassist concept in a typology.

CITY OF MELBOURNE BUILDING Major Project
Melbourne city is being diluted by increase number of apartment building due to the increase number of people living in the CBD every year. It come to an extend that the number of people live in CBD will increase 95 % in 2035 twice as the number it is right now. These staggering numbers of people and apartment being delivered in central of the city leave a huge concern on how the city could sustain as it is right now. All the apartment construction was approved with little regard on the effect on the residents within, the impact on the streets below or on the value of neighbouring properties. These developing issues put a lot of pressure on whether the city could retain it character and reconcile the increase of spaces for amenities such as parking, retails, office, recreation space, green space, and also the future of accommodation in the city. So I’m taking the whole Melbourne future statistic and define what it means for a whole CBD in a single building. This project tries to deal with the 95 % increase growth pressure and compress it into a single building in a specific site which potentially could become a future module. In other word, the idea is trying to embrace the future statistic and to create the future Melbourne city in a single building form. It is not just replicating the CBD but also keeping the ascent of Melbourne in term of space at a human scale and the feeling of the openness.
The site took place at Lonsdale St near QV, an open car park spaces that almost seem disconnected from the city fabric. The design begins with retails ground level serves not only as a commercial space but as an opportunity to reconnect Celestial Lane from Little Bourke st to Lonsdale St.

It’s the idea of extracting the essence of the city, the non-ephemeral side of the city, something from the DNA of the city from the type of space, atmosphere, composition, and material. There are specific and details aspect in making the retail on ground level are not just a typical retail lots but it depict some of the Melbournian identity, the perpetual sides of Melbourne, from the double volume shops, staircase design to the detail of the shop front frame works. The site set up a certain constrain on reconciling the scale of each programs, at what point the scale of a program reach it limit and absurdity. So I look at some precedents that to guide some of the program size such as the little library in Melbourne Central, a café on Flinders st the only have 3m sq of space, Sambal Kampong restaurant. The new housing designs mark the sense of openness and freedom in inhabiting the space. The internal planning exhibits a central service core, designed to simplify construction and servicing it also provides an enhanced spatial experience within the apartment spaces. The apartments can be configured and experienced either in open- or closedplan form and offers an innovative solution the problem of big-city car parking elevated car parking system which allows the car park inside the housing units.

The building design is to bring the Melbourne nature light and human scale feeling on the street level into the building. The corridor feels as it on the street below with the blue stone paving and the nature light in front the atrium above and from lightness structure of the residential unit which design to allow sunlight in. The connection between each program is the narrative from Melbourne’ labyrinth of connecting laneways and arcades that provides intimate spaces. The building presented in bluestone cladding which celebrate the Victorian Bluestone Quarries that describes the stone as “nature’s gift that represent Victoria” The extruding part of the building informs the openness and the diversity of outdoor programs which emphasize the importance of outdoor spaces in Melbourne. The botanical garden in the middle of the building highlighted the importance of a green space that the City are currently lack of. The three turbine on top of the building and quiet revolution turbine are design to harness the power of the wind which could see not only to supply the building itself but for its surrounding building as well. The future of Victoria market on producing it own fresh food is something that the city need as farming land are getting smaller and push further due to the suburb expansion. The building is a statement that is not just replicated but it is a new way of vertical living with all the Melbourne best character attach and a module that could be expend through the City that could protect the city fabric in future

GEELONG CRUISE TERMINAL & ROYAL GEELONG YATCH CLUB Helen Walters & Daniel Peck When we started the second half of the semester, looking at how our project can be morphed to make one final project, we looked at the main ideas in each of our projects, being the way we identify with the pier and how we as the public experience those space created by a purely utilitarian structures and idea of transitioning through spaces and thresholds, defined by view lines, light and material. When considering the programme of the design, we decided to re develop the Royal Geelong yacht club and create a new breakwater in conjunction with the G21 documents and the RGYC strategic plan. As such we decided to create a new breakwater, which would house the new yacht club. In juxtaposition to this super heavy, concrete structure, we used a lightweight scaffold system in the design of the new cruise ship terminal.

This project attempts to explore 3 states of architectural presence: the solid (concrete), the lightweight and the ephemeral. Using these three facets of architecture we’ve created a design which speaks to the ideas mentioned earlier. When considering the cruise ship terminal itself, the light weight frame creates a light, open feeling within the space and a feeling of external perpetuity as the structure cascades into the water. On one hand the expanding light weight structure allows for platforms and viewing decks to be created amidst the maze of the external scaffold, whist on the other hand, cladding the structure in opaque poly composite material allows a distinction of internal space. Circulation of the building as well as programmatic use can be defined through the use of light and the silhouettes of people using the building show density and flow and impart a sense of tidal movement.
When talking about the ephemeral, we’re talking about the way in which the ever moving tides will affect the design. The platforms are design in a way which exposes them fully to the elements. This means the traversable elements of the design change throughout the day and vary depending on the height of the tides. The idea is to encourage exploration in and under the pier and to allow the public to use the pier the way they want, reminiscent of how one might explore and play on the local jetty of any Australian coastal town. Finally the solid. Given that a breakwater has to be a very solid structure, we decided to explore the idea of embedding the yacht club into the breakwater wall, offsetting the lightweight nature of the cruise ship terminal with the very heavy, permanent fixture of a breakwater. In the same way that the sea encroaches upon and we are welcomed at terminal, the seas are turned away at the wall. As well as acting as a breakwater in a literal sense, it also balances the connection between the man-made and the natural. Ultimately the project aims to an experience of transcending through different spaces, defined by material and light, and as well as encouraging the user to engage with the project on a playful level, unconcerned with the commercial and professional actions of the pier.

FOOTSCRAY VERTICAL MARKET Nicola Garrod & L.Macleod
Little Saigon Market has some of most exotic organic food that not mass produce in Melbourne particularly in Footscray. FOOTSCRAY VERTICAL MARKET is an open skyscraper with eight clusters of L-shaped structures for vertical farming with cluster of rectangular pods that cater market community. The design took the opportunity in expanding the existing market that run by the Vietnamese local. The structure extendedly builds above the existing market. The market pods Inspired by Multi stacking ad hock and narrow extrusion style of Vietnamese retails architecture. The design also providing substantial facilities to grow fresh local crops by providing strategic farming spaces for each floor.

The design involving 2 different element which is wind and ground. The idea is to morphing the motion of the wind and turn into design form.
This device uses sail to collect wind in vertical manner. It then produces charcoal/pastel drawings based on the amount and intensity of the wind on a certain condition and area.

Studio Semester 1 2012
However it doesn’t act as a barrier (keeping the two sides apart), it acts like a bridge to draw them together with the intention of bringing society closer to the Victorian government. By splitting parliament house with this wall two separate sides are created, the politicians will reside in one side and the other will be devoted to the public. By creating this wall and pulling the two sides away, a void is created on either side of the wall. The two sides are attracted to their empty void and begin to explore it and their side of the wall. The discovery of public/private programs within the wall provide a neutral zone for the two sides to congregate, and they are brought together in this neutral zone. Therefore the building appears to be a wall but acts like a bridge. Removable panels on the wall create the opportunity for vocal and visual connections to be made between the two sides, furthering the sense of connection in the neutral zone. The secondary function of being able to use the panels as furniture also acts to help develop in in-formal meeting area for members of the two sides.
Will It Blend
The intention of this insertion into parliament house is to emphasize (or highlight) the struggle between the government and their people over the barrier/’s that separate them. (Between private and public, government and society, politicians and people). The wall is representative of the power barriers between the government (the politicians) and the people, which limit the public’s influence and accessibility into politics.
The discovery of public/private programs within the wall provide a neutral zone for the two sides to congregate, and they are brought together in this neutral zone. Therefore the building appears to be a wall but acts like a bridge.

1. expression of reality: how the government really puts on a mask when it comes to presenting themselves to the public in many way. but one architectural example was what the front facade is really majestic and really polished but the back and areas that are unseen are really dodgy just because people are not be able to see it. 2.intrusion providing different means of access for the public to enter the "more private" government areas. (how we had a split on one corner of the parliament) from the "smaller" piece to the "bigger" bit of the parliament house. one interesting point was that we make some pathways fake and not usable to show point. 3. knowledge we want create more transparency through having more political archives available to the public. so it's all about more libraries or discussion areas. press. etc.

The purpose of our project is to provide the CBD and surrounding communities with its very first vertical park. The sports element embedded within our park is to deliver RMIT with a fully functional sports leisure centre. We want to explore the relationship between natural surroundings and sport. Central Park New York is one of largest par in the world and it set in between concrete jungle. The successfulness of the park spark an idea what if it was vertically build and design in Melbourne CBD context.
The semi-enclosed design exposes the vegetation in the building. The plants are systematically facing the north where the plants could receive the optimum sunlight. The section clearly illustrates the programmatic system between the sport programs and the vegetation in the design

The purpose of our project is to provide Kennet River with a facilities for the life saving club and also accommodation for the visitor. The design integrated with the existing topography slops of that area and protect the forest The design also make sure that it is sustainable in-term of grey water system and optimized the amount of natural sunlight.

The design proposal is to articulate the White U house by Toyo Ito, into more environmental and sustainable community age care village that engaging with the surrounding context. The idea is to inject more greener surburban lifestyle that benefit the entire community. Renewable energy system are the main key design that activating the site and cultivating the house with the sense of nature.
The plan and the section show the vital part of the reconfiguration from the original design where different openings been place to diffuse natural light into the house. ARCHITECTURE OF SUN Jan Van Schick
This project is about incoperate solar panel into architecture. Since the technolgy has proceed beyond time so do architecture. By studying the properties of the solar panel, form and functionality take place in order to from an architecture with the solar panel. Architecture help to expand the rigidity of the solar panel and turn it into more articulate infrastructure.
The City Council could gain profit not just from the solar panel but from carpark and bikepark services. provide sustainable, long term clean energy back to the grid. Surrounding organisation could bene每ts as a shared facilities - carpark & bikepark. the power collected could be sold back to the grid and preserve a better environment for next generation by reducingcarbon emissions.

It is about the compulsion that moves the body towards animality… an orifice that summons… it speaks and promises absolutes… it becomes the impossibility to resist the call of the embassy, the call of desires… The situation is of dialogue, an exchange between a Diogenean human and a wild rat; caught somewhere in between. Inherent in this situation is a paradox, that by longing to identify with the wild, one is inadvertently tamed, caged in an opposing intention. The urge to consume, the hunger for mutualism in its entirety. The (il)logic imposes to be repeated
