W A L N U T S T. T H E A T R E T H E AT R E E X T E N S I O N | R E V I T | P H O T O S H O P

Walnut St. Theatre is said to be the oldest theatre in America, standing at the corner of Walnut and 9th streets for over two centuries. JKRP was hired to design a theatre expansion and ground floor retail, which I worked on during it’s Design D e v e l o p m e n t stage. Part of a team with two other architects, I developed the design of the main southfacing facade, and worked on the interior design of the ground floor and performance hall lobbies. I also assisted with preparing drawings and renderings for client p r e s e n t a t i o n s and project team meetings.

Three Parkway is an office building along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. JKRP was hired to renovate the basement fitness center and ground floor lobby. While I assisted with the working drawings of the fitness c e n t e r, I mostly focused on design iterations of the ground floor lobby desk, video wall, floor plan, and reflected ceiling plan.

This pad site project was a quick twoweek proposal for a pad site located outside Hamilton, NJ, consisting of three retail stores, one of which having a drive-thru window. I was responsible for addressing the sloping ground and developing the exterior elevations. With the guidance of another architect, I prepared the working drawings and renderings for the proposal.

Block 200 Huron is a semesterlong residential project done with two of my classmates, Alireza Golkarieh and Siyao Zhang. The Ann Arbor, MI site is a square block with a 13’ rise of elevation from the West to the East. Our design strategy was to break up our block into three residential buildings: senior units, family units, and luxury units, and two public buildings: YMCA annex with a rehabilitation facility to be used by seniors and a civic meeting room with afterschool children’s care. Shared by the residents and the public is a courtyard at the center of the block. Entrance thresholds are designed to differentiate public entrances from residential ones.

The basic premise of Identity Reconstructed is to create a contextualizing device for new architecture in aging cities. Using the map of the city of Manama, Bahrain, the project strives to be rooted in local urban identity while moving beyond nostalgic representations of the city. The tools used for this project are four manipulations of the figure ground map: scaling different parts to create different size programs, extruding to create the mass, rotating in the N/S and E/W axes, and carving to create the central entrance and atrium. The spatial and programmatic distribution follows the local development pattern, where N/S oriented spaces are regular and face the new part of the city, and the E/W oriented spaces are irregular and face the old part of the city. The program is split into contemporary art studios and galleries of the historic city.

Completed during my first semester of graduate school, Micro Detroit proposes a solution to vacancy in Detroit through the aggregation of the single family home. The site, a vacant lot situated in Milwaukee Junction in Detroit, is abutted by the Milwaukee Junction railroad to the south and by the Untitled Bottega art gallery to the east. The program for the project, a job training center for the atrisk teenagers of the Catherine Ferguson Academy, is to serve the neighborhood with a maker space and business incubator. The project provides a safe space for the girls of Catherine Ferguson, a service to the neighborhood at large, and a toolset for local entrepreneurs. Considering the project program and the residential typology of the single family home, the project strives to create an aggregation of houses that create spaces of learning, production, and gathering for the larger community.

Using the skills of an urban planner, urban designer, and two architects, this team project proposes the revitalization of a residential neighborhood that faces the Doan Brook Creek in Cleveland, OH. Four tactics were used in the project: stormwater purification, use of a bioswell and native vegetation, a pedestrian pathway, and a farmer’s market on the opposite side of the Doan Brook.

NEW YORK, NY The government typology of architecture presents itself clear in hierarchy; bold in its classical form, at a grand and proud scale representative of National architecture and space. This thesis assumes the belief that the current type of government architecture is alientating to the average passerby. There is an opportunity to allow for different occupants by challenging architectural norms. Formally, bubbles, in whole and part differentiate types of occupation and building program, and are aligned in a way strategic to forming space that breaks down urban and experiential hierarchy.
