I’m Zainab, I am a graduate from Rizvi College Of Architecture. I am passionate about design from all it’s different forms from architecture to graphic design. I am hardworking and have a drive to learn new skills. Architecture helps me plan the lives of the people who would occupy these spaces and throughout my academics have explored that aspect. Please enjoy my selected works.

The current prison system has psychological effects on the prisoners, overcrowding lack of privacy and light affect the mental health of the prisoner. Our body affects our mind our mind affects our behaviour and our behaviour affects our outcome and our outcome together affects the society. Children of women inmates till 6yrs live within the prison with their mothers and after that are taken to children’s home till the mother is released. Women have lesser opportunities within the prison. Most women have faced traumatic experience before imprisonments which affect their mental health. The children of these women inmates are completely cut off from the world. Isolation, overcrowding, recidivism and mental health are four major problems in the system which lead to various other problems.

our aim was to only segregate these criminals from the society but now our objective has become to reform these prisoners, so after they are released they can contribute back to the society Inmates in the prison will have to earn a livelihood to sustain themselves which will help build their future, the aim of the opportunity zone is to eliminate poverty based crimes.

E D U C AT I O The education zone consists of the library, computer lab, lecture halls and art therapy space. The art room has a spill over terrace looking into the communal space and. The lecture hall can be divided into two rooms or used as a single hall. The library and computer lab are connected with the bridge that separates the central plaza from the courtyard in the opportunity zone. The library is constructed of 2 levels with informal reading space as well as formal discussion spaces.

The steps become informal seatings. The west façade of the library facing the central plaza and the south facades of the kid’s and medical sector is a double skin wall with brick jali and perforated jali in the inside that creates a buffer zone which helps in passive cooling of the space as well as maintains visual privacy. The appetures in the jali efficiently reduces the ingress of heat. it also acts as a gutter for rain water and directs the water into the tank.

WATCH TOWER
In previous prison systems inmates were one among the several people or completely isolated. Instead of this if we break into smaller units and groups that mimic the family unit in the society, this kind of a normal setting will create normal behaviour, so instead of becoming isolated you become part of a group Accommodation is divided into 3 sectors and security is accomplished by organising direct supervision with matron’s office on each floor placed with clear line of sight of the zone, which promotes direct interaction and normalised communication.A common path for the guards as well as the inmates is provided Integrating nature with accommodation brings natural light and fresh air, the inmates do not have to go through security to access these spaces. Low security lodging will consist of pregnant inmates as well as women with children and the open space becomes a part of their lodging where children can play and interact. The matron’s office looks into the open space and the accommodation zone, the guards can move around in these open spaces that will create a better staff inmate relation.

The major thought behind the competition is to design a facility where the design students & professionals work together encouraging design dialogue, interactive sessions, workshops etc & a new generation of Architects. The challenge is to design a Co–Working commercial space for freelancing Architects, Studios for established firms & a Learning Center for architecture students. The Competition aims to design a facility wherein students can work & learn along with the practicing professionals.

The site in consideration has a residential area, convention centers, eateries, PG’s, a school and a busy road in its surroundings, which brings in a diverse group of people. Since the brief talks about collaboration, it’s important to bring these people around in and have an exchange between all.
The built is pushed back to the corner to open up the site for the community around, allowing collaboration between all, interaction between them and students will also educate them about the importance of community field. the entrance of the site is made such that there is a visual barrier between the site and road but no physical blockade. the ramp after, gradually increases the privacy of the built as you go further into the site. The ground level is the public interaction zone and as the structure rises the privacy rises along.

The public zones on the floor include cafe, exhibition and the discussion area. The zone is the main interaction area of the built. The panel positioning in exhibition is flexible allowing various scales of display, the spaces flows into the courtyard with temporary movable panels again creating the sense of movement and flexibility.
The balconies add a dynamic character to the building. The facade changes continuously and as per the weather .The dynamism allows the user a freedom to change the space according to their need. Staircase in the design here serves not just the purpose of movement between floors but also as collaborative zones that can be used for discussions and exhibitions
The profession of architecture encompasses in itself various streams of work, it’s an art of collaborations not just between the fraternity of architects but between them and the community around them. A community thrives as long as there is communication between all.
The movable furniture in the studio is the design element, allowing the user to carve spaces according to their needs. it gives them the flexibility of working in groups or as individuals depending upon the requirements.

Worked on the design team for the Austrian Bungalow project This bungalow was to be designed for a family of 4, the couple are writers and their two kids. . They had a linear plot and the brief was to design a g+1 house with a garage and having direct entry from the garage so during extreme climates they could directly enter the house. Brief was to build only on part of the site, having ground floor opening up in the open space where they could have barbeque’s

the client’s wanted an open ground floor plan, also a large storage space for their skiing equipments and articles for extreme weather, the storage space had to be close to the entrance for easy accessibility. kitchen, dining and living comes in an open plan kitchen and dining designed in such a way it can open up on the podium to the south The first floor needed one master bedroom, 2 children’s room and one reading space, where everyone can get a private corner and it opens up in the balcony overlooking the landscape I got to be part of the deigning team where we made several proposals, and made 3d and 2d rendered drawings for the client

Eco tourism project is proposed in the (NAINA) Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Area, making it an easily accessible tourist spot and a lodging area for business associates as well as providing dormitories for exchange students. the site is surrounded by forest area and has a sports complex next to it.
Since the user is going to be students and business men and women it was important to have programmes like workshops and conference halls are provided in the centre. the design follows a single axis which then leads to the various zones accommodation being the farthest and closest to the forest

Indore housing project. The site Is next to the Lal Baugh palace, the project was to rehabilitate the people on the site and use the land to create housing for the urban poor. Indore, India in the early 1980’s was facing a shortage of Housing. It had been estimated that approximately 51,000 families were homeless or living in illegal settlements.

The Indore Development Authority initiated an affordable housing project for 60,000 people that would tackle this issue and at the same time be affordable to the government and urban poor. Previous efforts by the government to provide lowcost urban housing in India were aimed at supplying ready-built units.

The site originally was occupied by informal settlements, these people lived in a community had open spaces and gathering spaces already present for them that they used to use daily for different activities. I mapped out these major opens spaces and then started building the clusters around them to maintain the sense of belonging
Housing was divided in 3 major groups LIG, MIG, HIG. First units were designed keeping in mind their current living arrangements where the connect to outdoor communal spaces was needed, hence clusters were formed in a way where different houses could connect with each other, an opportunity was also given to expand ones home by combining two flats. And balconies and bridges become gathering spaces which overlook the open spaces
