Graduation Porject Experience Assimilation Center: Focusing on Intergeneration Community. "We all experience life, but we don’t all

live life for the experience."-Anonymous Human beings as they live through each day, they keep accumulating experiences and skills in order to survive, grow, improve the quality of their lives and achieve the targeted goals which they set for themselves. Hence our life experiences can be seen as a feedback loop which might turn negatively or positively, and shape our morals, ethics, and values as human begins. The accumulated experience can be seen as civilizations from the beginning of time until our current time. Passing down the experiences from one generation to another, is more likely to thrive and succeed. Culturally, Iraq has a very

rich heritage and honors the achievements of the past in both pre-Islamic as well as post-Islamic times. It is known for its poets, painters and sculptors, who are among the best in the Arab world, some of them being world-class as well as producing fine handicrafts, including rugs and carpets. Currently, whenever Iraq is mentioned in any medium, the first thing that crosses the mind is the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) war crimes on Iraq’s civilians, heritage, and cultural, not to forget the corruption in Iraq’s government, and the decline in providing the basic human rights to Iraq’s citizens. There is still a big room to learn from Iraq’s experiences, legacy and observed knowledge to build a better future.

They can be our greatest teachers. They can certainly instruct us with words and stories of times past, and share a lifetime of accumulated wisdom. But what they truly help us learn about is the world and ourselves as they teach us with their very selves, their being. Elders can also teach us about the end of life, which informs the whole of our lives. Relationships between young and old make us feel connected. They make us feel connected not only to each other but to something bigger, to the past and the future, to the flow of life. This connection leads to tangible benefits for all generations.

12

Beyond Just Programs. The richest forms of human development are most available to those willing and able to interweave their needs and potential with the needs and potential of others, especially those younger or older. The success of intergenerational projects and programs across the country demonstrates the significant benefits of intergenerational contact to both children and adults. The challenge now lies in going beyond a project or program here or there to making a larger commitment to intergenerational connections so that they become a part of daily life and the social fabric.

Elevated pedestrian walkways do offer benefits - better point-to-point connectivity and increased comfort.vvvvv

AquaGreen Team Solar Powered House SDME 2018 Competition Dubai, U.A.E.

Solar Decathlon Middle East 2018 is an international competition for university students to design, build, and operate sustainable solar-powered houses. It’s an intensive learning experience for consumers as they experience the latest technologies and materials in energy-efficient design, clean energy technologies, smart home solutions, water conservation measures, electric vehicles, and high-performance buildings. Over a period of 2 years, the participants of the 20 teams will have to fulfill the challenge of developing a fully functional prototype house of 100 square meters. Using solar energy as the only energy source and are equipped with all the technologies that permit maximum energy efficiency. During the final phase of the competition, the teams assemble their houses in an expo area, open them to the general public, while undergoing ten different contests, the reason why this initiative is called a decathlon.

14

The 10 SDME contests will follow the lines of those in previous competitions, with some customization to challenge the teams to adapt their designs to the heat, dust, and high humidity experienced in the Middle East. In the SDME Competition, there are three different ways to earn points: Jury evaluation, Task completion, and Monitored performance.

I worked on AquaGreen solar house from the beginning of the project in Jan 2016 till the end of the competition in Dec 2018. I was involved in designing, promoting, assembly, and disassembly of the house, and managing the site clerks alongside my fellow decathletes.

Team AquaGreen from Ajman University, participated in SDME2018. The staff and students collaborated on the project, Aiming to help advance the UAE’s momentum towards sustainability. This project intends to maximize the energy savings and minimize consumption to the lowest level, utilizing a super-insulated building shell.

-1st Place in Engineering & Construction Contest, by SDME2018

The solar decathlon goals and objectives are included in all of these in varying degrees. The courses on designing and sustainability almost completely changed towards providing solutions and studies for the competition.

We have earned the top spot in 4 contests:

-1st Place Management by SDME2018.

Five Star Hotel & Spa - Ajman Waterfront, is a mixed-use building. Focusing on connectivity and blending between the three main zones (Hotel zone, Mall zone, and Business center zone), while keeping it simple for people to adapt to it similarly to how people develop and adapt old cities to their urban needs of shade and ventilation. Through the use of a grid system of 9.6m x 9.6m, I managed to provide spacious zones while maintaining structural safety for the residential tower.

Mixed-use Project Five Star Hotel & Spa Ajman Waterfront 20

The exterior of the proposal is to be deceptively simple, housing a complex layering of working and living spaces on the interior. Through the modular system for the floors, I achieved harmony between the Void and greenery concept inside the solid form of the tower. Overall providing a space for occupances to take a moment out in the fresh air.

Urban Residential District Project - Close up render shot

Urban Residential District Project. As part of three members designing the group urban project, I took the residential district. The residential district design challenge is to its complexity of dealing with the city street view concept, and human comfort from living in the residential district. Combining the cultural and historical value of Ajman’s waterfront, the development aims to create a connection between the residential district and waterfront development. The project’s site is divided by a major traffic artery "The corniche street" in Ajman. The lower floor will

24

comprise of food and snack stalls while the second floor will connect to the main street and commercial and office space on the northerly through a connecting corridor. Program wise, office spaces are arranged in courtyard-style groups, each with a drop-off area to facilitate the flow of people and traffic. Actually, the design positions office spaces with the low pedestrian flow in the detached commercial building on the north, and positions commercial space with the high pedestrian flow on the southern part of the site.

AquaGreen Working Drawing for Deliverable 7, the final set of drawings submitted to SDME2018 competition commutiee.

The primary role or function of working drawings is to convert design data into construction information and to communicate that information to the building industry, code officials, product manufacturers, suppliers, and fabricators. The drawings must provide and transmit a complete, faithful, and accurate graphic depiction of the project design concept, to scale. To bring a design concept to reality, there must be a process of selecting the materials to be used for the project. These materials must be combined into systems, where possible, or distinct details that gather and utilize them to formulate "pieces" of construction. In this chapter, I will showcase two projects completely done in Autodesk Revit to be up to date with the required workflow in offices. The first project, Aquagreen solar house working drawing, Including Architectural, Interior design, Electrical, Photovoltaic, and Site of operation set of drawings.

28

The second project, Residential Tower developing and paying attention to details and the vertical relation between the different drawings and make sure that it all function correctly and ensure the standards of human comfort. The benefit from the knowledge of technical drawings, from these two projects, helps me to communicate more clearly and confidently with those who are preparing the construction documents. To see the project being built, safely, and efficiently.
