Time 4 A Fashion Fresh Start KEEP, CONSIGN, DONATE OR TRASH IT? Questions to ask yourself when assessing and editing your wardrobe. What’s the secret to creating a wardrobe that makes you look and feel fabulous? You need honesty, clarity, and a strategy for editing and analyzing your wardrobe. As you go through your wardrobe create four piles: 1. Keep 2. Consign 3. Donate 4. Trash Ask yourself the following questions: How does the garment fit? Is it baggy, pulling, gaping, too short, too long? If so, is it worth having altered so that it fits perfectly? Check shoulder seams, waistlines, hem lengths, and pant rise (crotch length). Does it fla�er YOUR figure? If not, and it’s in good shape and still in fashion, consign it. Is it a fla�ering color or pa�ern on you? Does the color make you feel good, confident, or have you go�en compliments when you’ve worn it? Yes? Keep it. How o�en do you wear it? If it’s been more than a year, or you think you might have occasion to wear it “someday,” then it’s probably time to consign or donate it. Unless, it’s a classic or vintage item that still fits and fla�ers you.

Okay, here’s a tough one, but it must be asked…is it age appropriate? (let’s be honest now �) Does it fit into your life right now? If you are a busy stay at home mom, and plan to be for the next year or more, then conservative business suits probably wont serve you well right now—consign it. Does it go with more than one thing in your closet? It probably does, but you may not have thought to mix it or layer it with other items. Experiment… it can make your wardrobe go a lot further. Does it have holes or stains…TRASH IT! Are you keeping it just because it was expensive, or because it was a gi� from someone and you feel guilty about ge�ing rid of it? Lose the guilt, and donate or consign it. Most importantly, do you feel good in it, and does it project the image that you want the world to see?

right Beginnings Preschool was started in 1974 by a group of parents who wanted the best possible pre school experience for their children. Twenty-five years later, parents are still bringing their children to Bright Beginnings for the same reason. For many of us, there always seems to be something that we need to get done. You’re having to juggle between taking care of your kids, going to work, cleaning the house, preparing meals, running errands and the list goes on. Unfortunately, while you are trying to be a responsible person by doing all these things, you may also be neglecting a very important person—you. Pampering ourselves is essential to our total well-being. When we pamper ourselves, we feel refreshed and renewed and are better able to handle the responsibilities and activities in our life. There are many ways that you can pamper yourself. Pampering should be incorporated into your daily schedule, at least once a day. Listen to your favorite music.

t’s February, a month when we focus on love and finding ways to show others how much we care about them. As women, we’re quick to take care of our family members, our friends and neighbors, and organizations we believe in; we see what others need, and step in to help. But what are you doing to take care of your own needs? Many women feel that making time for themselves is a luxury, and that there simply aren’t enough hours in a day for self-care. Yet the reality is that you make the time for whatever is most important to you. The key, then, is making self-care one of your top priorities, and creating the time for whatever you most enjoy. Why does self-care matter so much? For one thing, when you put your own needs on the back burner for long enough, you don’t have as much to offer in any of your other roles. You start getting burned out, your temper shortens, and you may begin to feel like a martyr; this isn’t good for anyone. On the other hand, taking a little time to do what you most enjoy gives you more energy, reduces stress, and makes your other responsibilities seem more manageable. Start – – – –

by considering a few questions about what makes you happiest: What do you really love doing (with no “shoulds” attached)? Do you most enjoy time with friends or quiet time to yourself? Would you rather be at home (putting all household tasks aside) or out somewhere (the mall, a coffee shop or wine bar, a friend’s house)? How often can you realistically set aside time just for yourself? If your answer isn’t at least weekly, try again!

Once you’re clear on what you’d like to be doing, the next step is fitting it in: – If you’re a planning person, get out your calendar, write (in ink) some time for yourself, and treat this with the same importance that you would give to a doctor’s appointment or business meeting. – If you’re more spontaneous, keep your eyes open for opportunities. If you realize that your evening is free, grab the chance to do whatever it is you most want to do, and set aside the guilt – your other tasks will still be there later. – If you don’t feel like there’s any time at all, look at where your free time is going now. Are you spending chunks of time watching TV, browsing the internet, or tending to inconsequential chores or errands? Instead, use some of this time to do a favorite activity; the trade off will give you a lot more satisfaction. This may be the month for sharing love, but remember to send some in the direction of the person who probably needs it most – you.
