Department Of Architecture- S.V.I.T.

Creating A Community Of Innovative Trendsetters

This Department Of Architecture premise was designed as a competition entry, hosted by S.V.I.T., a Technical University in India. The idea was to design spaces to offer an optimum backdrop for these future potentials.

Conceptual Design Desicion: 30’x30’ grid on plan and elevation. 30’ 30’

Requirements included: 3 batches of B.Arch. (5 yr. Prgm.), 2 Batches of B.Interior Design (3 yr. Prgm.), 2 Batches of M.Arch (2 yr. Prgm.), Junior and Senior Libraries along with all the other needs of a proper Architecture College. A Basic Module of 30’x30’ was taken and Repeated throughout the Site. . 1 Module = 30’ x 30’. . 2 Modules = 1 Classroom + 1 Studio. . 1/2 Module = 15’x15’ Repeats in the Elevation.

The Courtyards: Courtyards play a very important role in institutionals buildings. They act as central breathing spaces and activity centres. Positioning courtyards at different levels not only enables visual connection but also acts as a common interaction point and an incredible lightwell. Courtyards also affect the Micro-climate and especially for hot and humid Countries like india, they increase the Thermal Comfort of the place. Suspended Bridges: Suspended Bridges create an element of fun, awe and experimentation in any design. These shall enable students to experience the spaces in a different dimension.

SKYRISE

The Ultimate Commercial Lifestyle. The ‘SKYRISE’ is a project designed for the popular Shree Balaji Group in India. Their requirement was to design an iconic Commercial and Residential destination, spread over an area of 3.70 Acres in the city of Vadodara, Gujarat. I designed a state of the art iconic form for their idea of ideal Mixed Use Architecture. The estimated completion of the project is in August 2020. The design aims to utilize the maximum natural lighting, providing every office its own open green space, and at the same time, enhancing its visibility and commercial value.

The glass cuboids constitute the business zone with 124 offices and the bottom six floors constitute the retail and entertainment zone with 132 shops, 2 banquet halls, and a multiplex with sufficient parking facilities. Structurally the building is designed in two parts, the bottom floors are designed as a R.C.C. frame strcture and the glass cubiods are designed as a M.S. Frame structure because of the cantileveres as high as 27’. Construction Progress : Currently Under Construction : click here for construction updates 07 Architecture Portfolio | Zeal Shah

YEAR: 2019| LOCATION: GODHRA, INDIA | BUILDING: PRIVATE HOUSING | TYPE: FREELANCE

The Casket

A Typical Indian Residential Bungalow (Following Principles of Vastu Shastra) Here, the client Mr. Kalpesh Patel, came up with a list of multiple requirements of 4250 sqft programme to be proposed on a tight plot of 2550 sqft. Apart from the basic requirements of a house, they wanted a full floor dedicated for hosting parties with a party hall, waterbody, garden area and a home theatre. They also wanted a family lounge room, meditation room, terrace garden, Servant’s quarter, lift and parking space for two cars. And due to the restricted footprint, the design was forced to go vertically into a three storeyed structure.

HOONF: The Intergenerational Refuge Where Experience Empowers Future “The wisdom and experience of older people is a resource of inestimable worth. Recognizing and treasuring their contributions is essential to the flourishment of any society.”

Children’s Residence

Senior’s Residence

Intergenerational community centre

In order to make the concept socially popular, an Intergenerational Community Centre was also proposed; leaving one part of the site as a guarded residential zone and the other as a community centre, open for all. India, today is a home to 100 million Senior Citizens and 30 million Orphan Children. When observed closely, the emotional demands of both these groups are pretty much the same. Together, they can compliment each other beyond a doubt. Today many institutions exist, which individually target these issues; but in doing so, a feeling of loneliness and lack of love and attention prevails among both age groups. So the idea was to address both of these issues simultaneously in the same campus. The aim here was to create an interactive platform between old age homes and orphanages by offering them a Common Space for Interaction and Shelter. Seniors need

TRAFFIC DENSITY PLAN(SITE) The main concern was the of privacy of both groups. Even though in the same premise, buildings and amenities were to be designed in such a way that interactions would be voluntary and not at all forced. For this purpose, various layouts such as linear, scattered and mixed housing, considering the context and privacy requirements, were worked out. Also, common activities such as family dinners, common prayers and yoga sessions were included so that both the generations could learn and also help each other.

PLAN: TYPICAL CHILDREN’S RESIDENCE

SECTION THROUGH A TYPICAL ELDERS RESIDENCE

The idea was to provide a design molded and nurtured by light as the most important feature of a building is its light and ventilation. Also main focus was to design transitional spaces within individual buildings. These offer for interaction and also provide means for thermal comfort and heat dissipation. They also help maintain visual and physical permeability within the campus. For example each of the children’s residential unit has two courtyards- 1. green area , 2. play area enabling good light, ventilation and interaction within the building.
