6

ZONE 1– CRZ 200 (NO CONSTRUCTIONS) HAS VERY FRAGILE NEW DUNE

ZONE 6 – BUILDABLE ZONE – ACCESS FROM VILLAGE ROAD, STILTED FOUNDATIONS (TO MITIGATE TERMITE, SNAKE & EXPANSIVE SOIL)

ZONE 2 – CRZ – 500 (LIGHT WEIGHT STRUCTURES + SOLAR PANELS) INTER-DUNE SANDY FLAT WITH SHALLOW SWEET WATER AQUIFER AND VERY FRAGILE DEEP SWEET WATER AQUIFER, IDEAL FOR PLAYGROUNDS

ZONE 5 – BUILDABLE ZONE – CONNECTION TO THE MAIN VILLAGE AND ACCESS FROM VILLAGE ROAD, FOUNDATIONS NEED TO BE STILTED WITH WIDE BASE (TO MITIGATE TERMITE, SNAKE AND EXPANSIVE SOIL) THE ACADEMIC BLOCK IS KEPT CENTRAL WITH RESIDENCES

ZONE 3 – REGULATORY BUILDABLE ZONE (SAND DUNE ZONE, ESSENTIAL FOR TSUNAMI MITIGATION) WITH LIMITED HEIGHT BUILDINGS IN AREAS OUTSIDE)

ZONE 4 – PADDY FIELD – ELEVATED WALKWAYS AND BUILDINGS. THIS ARRANGEMENT PROVIDES CONTINUITY OF WATER FLOW ACROSS NEIGHBOURING PADDY FIELDS

THE BASIC PURPOSE OF THE SCHOOL IS TO MAKE ITS STUDENTS AWARE OF NATURE.

OUTDOORS

LEARNING AIDS ADOPTED AIM AT LETTING THE STUDENTS INTERACT WITH NATURE AND REALIZE ITS FUNCTION AND USES IN LIFE. BASIC NATURAL ELEMENTS LIKE TREES, WATER, SUN ETC. HAVE BEEN USED TO ACHIEVE THIS AIM.

THE WATER MOVEMENT HAS BEEN KEPT ON SURFACE TO BE VISUALLY RELATED WITH THE SITE OCCUPANTS. A NETWORK OF BIOSWALES HAS BEEN USED TO FULFILL THIS PURPOSE. THEY SERVE AS A PART OF THE RAIN WATER COLLECTION SYSTEM AND ARE ACTIVE ONLY SEASONALLY

A LOT OF TREES FEATURING SEASONAL CHANGES, OR FRUIT AND FLOWER BEARING TREES ALONG WITH CULTURALLY AND MEDICINALLY SIGNIFICANT TREES HAVE BEEN PLANTED TO SERVE AS AN EDUCATION TOOL. tHEY HELP STUDENTS REALIZE A MAJOR HELP THAT NATURE IS TOWARDS HUMAN LIFE.

SUN SUN THROUGH SHADOWS IS USED AS A TECHING AID. TOOLS LIKE SUNCLOCKS, REFLECTIVE WALL SURFACES AND VARIOUS SHADOW SHAPES AND SOLAR PANELS ARE USED TO ENHANCE THE DOMINANCE OF THE SUN IN OUR LIVES.

Site Plan

Located in Faridabad, the project comprises of an office and a residence. Office is located in the front and the residence in the quieter areas of the site at the back. To save the office from the noise of the main road it is recessed below the ground level as per the slope of the site. A series of steps lead down to the residence passing the office. Climatic considerations and site contours define the spatial configuration and morphology of the project

Bird Watching Centre Design Studio Project- ll Yr.

Location: Okhla Bird Sanctuary, New Delhi The Centre consists of a visitor’s centre apart from recreational spaces like a gallery, Auditorium, Cafeteria and Bird Watching Towers

Extra Curricular Work

IWIPA SITE ANALYSIS Women interests & implications were considered, local parcipation was ensured through interviews & discussions The neighbourhood was studied from both social and infrastructural point of view. Residents and centre members were interviewed and group discussion were held to realize the urban needs of the settlement. Activity mapping and surveys were used to isolate potential intervention zones and the issues hampering gender inclusivity in the neighbourhood.

Workshop, Oct. 2012

The workshop focussed on understanding urban planning and design from a gender inclusivity perspectie. As an exercise the workshop tried to achieve a synthesis implying women safe public spaces. A selected neighbourhood was made women friendly and safe by using urban interventions as a tool to incorporate women and women activities into public spaces.

PROBLEMS IDENTIFIED SOCIAL Unfriendly public spaces for women, un safe streets

INFRASTRUCTURAL Traffic Land encroachment Illegal parking

LOCATION: Okhla Village It consists of two Jamia Millia Islamia run women centres. Other than Urban Intervention in and around these centres, workshop also focused on building design of these centres.

IWIPA Workshop, Oct. 2012

PROPOSALS The neighbourhood was made safe by infusing activity at various nodes in the settlement and making streets women safe as well. the centres and the settlement were inter and intra connected through social interactive spaces.

ZONE A The usually male dominated area is formalised into a women friendly recreation and parking space. It consists of hawker space, craft shops, small park, and car parking.

ZONE B In front of the women centre, a cozy chaupal like setting with a small play area is developed. It is located outside one of the centres thus enhancing centre’s and community’s interaction with each other, alongside providing an outdoor activity space for the centre.

PLAN - ZONE A NOT TO SCALE

Mainly two aspects have been dealt with: Traffic control and providing Interactive zones. The interactive zones were chosen considering the existing social environment and interaction pattern amongst the local residents. The chosen nodes hold the potential towards being developed as specific interactive points. To control traffic an organized road section and parking spaces are proposed. To future proof the planning and additional parking area has been marked (zone E)

SECTION - ZONE A NOT TO SCALE

ZONE C A quiet zone, a potential community interactive space has been left untouched (design wise) but incorporated in the series of connecting nodes.

ZONE D Traffic Control. The entrance to one of the zones is a busy area. To slow down traffic a mild slope and traffic segregation were opted for. PLAN - ZONE D NOT TO SCALE
