45TH ANNUAL SAN JOSE ZEBRA/ZEBRAETTE INVITATIONAL BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT MAY 27-28, 2023

Dear Players, Families, Friends, and Alumni, Zebra Basketball Tournaments are filled with loved ones, new and old friends, and the yearly opportunity for us all, to get together and enjoy the competition, connection and exhilaration of competitive basketball! On behalf of the San Jose Zebra Youth Foundation, I would like to welcome you, to our 45th annual San Jose Zebra and Zebraette Invitational Basketball Tournament. This year’s tournament has been dedicated to Ryan Uda. Ryan was a two-time President, long term advisor and supportive parent within the Zebra organization! On behalf of the San Jose Zebra Youth Foundation, I would like to thank him and his family for his contributions and support throughout the years! He is missed greatly; however, fond memories continue to impact those of us fortunate enough to have spent time with him!!!! Huge, Huge, Huge THANK YOU to this year’s tournament chair, Kathy Jenkins! Kathy, her tournament board and committee members were instrumental in the strategizing, planning and execution of this year’s tournament. Kathy, Thank you so much for stepping up and for all of your time and effort to make this year’s tournament a success!!!! Thank you to all visiting teams for your participation in our tournament. Whether this is your first time attending or you’ve participated in years past, the Zebra organization appreciates all of you spending this extended weekend with us. For those teams who have traveled from far away, thank you for all the extra effort to be with us this weekend. We wish you all safe travels throughout the tournament. To our 12th grade senior teams – Congratulations!!!!! This is the culmination of years of dedication and commitment to your coaches, your teammates, your families and of course, to the San Jose Zebra Youth Foundation. I wish you all the best in your final Zebra tournament. More importantly, I wish you the very best in all of your future endeavors. As teams and individuals, you have represented the Zebra organization, your families, your teammates and coaches with grace and dignity. I am looking forward to see all that you all will accomplish in life and in our community. Thank you for being a part of the Zebra basketball organization! Having the opportunity to fill the Zebra President role for the past two years has been quite an experience for me. I have a newfound respect for all the hard work, that takes place, in each organization, to hold our annual tournaments and to keep the organizations viable. I am thankful for all the new people that I have had the opportunity to meet both in and out of the Zebra organization! I have realized how special and unique, the Asian Basketball Community, we are apart of, really is….and how we all need to do our very best to nurture, grow and protect this community. Basketball is what brings us all together, but the friendships, the experiences and the opportunities are the foundation blocks of our past and future success! I ask you all, to keep this in mind as we move forward together. Competition is at the core of playing basketball….Respecting your fellow community members is at the core of life! These ideals can and need to be equally represented in all that we do. Thank you! See you all in the gym soon!!!!!!! Mark Alicaya Zebra President 2021-2023

San Jose Zebra Youth Foundation 2023 Dedication

Ryan Uda

The San Jose Zebra Youth Basketball Organization is dedicating the 2023 Zebra Invitational Tournament posthumously to Ryan Uda. Ryan passed away in August 2022 after fighting courageously to recover from a health issue he suffered a year earlier. Ryan and Jill Uda joined the San Jose Zebras in 2003 with their son Alex and Ryan soon became the team manager for his team. Ryan’s daughter Kristen joined the organization in 2007 and he served as an assistant coach for her team. During his tenure as a Zebra parent, he also served as Boys Commissioner and later became Zebra President in 2013. After Kristen’s graduation, Ryan continued to guide the Zebra organization and future teams in an advisor role. He was eager to share his experiences and knowledge with the younger teams in his new role. After the 2018-2019 season, the organization was challenged with finding a new president. The position is usually filled with a parent volunteer. After a period of unsuccessfully filling the position, Ryan stepped up and volunteered to take on the Zebra presidency for a second time while in his advisor position. Ryan made it clear how thankful he was to the organization for all the experiences and memories he and his family enjoyed as members of the Zebras. It also was important to him that the organization be strongly led through the next decade as

San Jose Zebra Youth Foundation 2023 Dedication

Ryan Uda the Asian basketball landscape was transitioning. His commitment to the Zebras has been passed down to Alex who is now serving as an assistant coach for a Zebra team. As Ryan was ready to take over as president, the COVID pandemic was affecting everyday life not to mention youth sports. It was a challenging time to navigate and keep the organization moving forward. Ryan was instrumental in keeping the organization’s vision and activities in place and moving forward during this time of so much uncertainty. Ryan’s vast number of roles during his years with the San Jose Zebras showed his commitment and dedication to the organization. His insights will be missed at the monthly board meetings. Ryan was very proud to be a member of the Zebra family and the Asian basketball community. In all his roles while in the organization, Ryan was committed to making respect for all players and families paramount. His respect for the players, coaches, families and the organization was always a higher priority than winning at all cost. His leadership furthered the San Jose Zebra’s legacy of being one of the most prominent Asian basketball organizations and served as a model for others to follow. The San Jose Zebra Youth Basketball Organization recognizes and appreciates all of Ryan’s contributions through the years. He will be missed but his legacy will be a part of the organization’s history for years to come.

San Jose Zebra Youth Foundation Chi Akizuki Player of the Year Awards Chi Akizuki has been called “Mr. Zebra.” He was one of the San Jose Zebra Youth Foundation’s most loyal and dedicated members. But Mr. Akizuki was also one of the great Japanese American athletes of his era, an allaround athlete who starred in basketball, baseball and track before, during and after World War II. He also coached those sports for decades with the Zebras, San Jose Japanese Community Youth Service, and Police Activities League. The Zebras honor his athletic ability, sportsmanship and passion for youth sports by awarding the Chi Akizuki Player of the Year Award to a player on each of our teams.

San Jose Zebra Youth Foundation The Zebra Legacy Awarded to a high school senior

The San Jose Zebra Youth Foundation is the oldest Asian American club basketball organization, dating back to 1930, when the San Jose Buddhist Church started sponsoring hoops teams as a social and athletic outlet for young Japanese-American adults. The Zebras started playing in an era where athletic and other opportunities were not as available to immigrants of Asian descent as they are today. Beginning in the 1930s and continuing into the 1950s, the Zebras also fielded baseball teams, initially being known as the San Jose Asahi. The baseball Zebras called San Jose Municipal Stadium their home for many years. One of the most famed players of the pre-World War II era was Russell Hinaga, who traveled to Japan and pitched against Babe Ruth in an exhibition game. Several played semi-pro ball, and some made the rosters of college teams in various sports. The first 1930 Zebra basketball team was coached by Everett Roseveare, who secured black-and white striped uniforms for the players, giving birth to the name, "Zebras.” Through the years, the Zebra teams would travel the length of the West Coast, from Seattle to Los Angeles. Its teams would play in the Mid-west, Salt Lake City, Denver, and Chicago. In the modern era, the San Jose Zebras/Zebraettes would cross the Pacific Ocean to the villages, towns, and cities of Japan. By the early 1930's, the forerunner of the present day "Zebraettes" began playing basketball as the "Purplettes", using the purple and white colors of the Buddhist Church. Like their male counterparts, team members were, in many cases, out of high school, working and even young mothers. During the early postwar years, the Purplettes gave way to the immediate predecessors of the Zebraettes, the "Alphas". It was in the 1970s that the Zebraettes were officially formed and it was also then that the sponsorship of the organization changed hands from the church to the players and their families. In those early decades, the players were mostly adults and most were already in the work force and played basketball in their spare time. Starting in the late 1960s, the emphasis shifted to forming teams of high school age players. In the modern era, beginning with the 1970's, the Zebras were led by Herman Santo and other old-timers like Chi ("Mr. Zebra") Akizuki, Clark Taketa, Dan Fukushima (the former President of the United States High School Basketball Coaches Association), Tom Ichishita, and many other former players. Hoping to pass on the legacy and tradition of early Zebras, they "re-founded" the organization to meet the needs of the times. Their dedication and hard work made it possible for new generations of Asian-American youth to prepare for high school basketball, make lifelong friends and play high caliber competition. Herman Santo was instrumental in guiding the organization starting in the early 1970s, recruiting players and emphasizing good sportsmanship, hard work and family involvement – the foundation for the modern Zebra organization.

Through the 1980s, 1990s and into the new millennium, the Zebras continued to grow. More teams were added until there were teams at every grade level from 7th to 12th. Most recently the organization added 6th grade teams, and developmental teams in younger grades. Awarded to aSummer high school senior camps were offered to help the players hone their skills and scholarships were established to help them pay for their college educations. We also honor players at the season-ending picnic with awards for exemplifying the Zebra spirit. A number of Zebras and Zebraettes have gone on to play and star on many of the prep basketball teams in the county. Many have been named to various All-Star, All-City, and All-Tournament teams as prep stars and Zebra/Zebraette players. Lee Anne Sera played for the two time NCAA champion USC Trojans. Other Zebraettes who would go on to play basketball in college included Shelby Taketa (Cal Poly), Lisa Imahara (San Jose State), Lori Kozuki (U.C. Davis), Daniela Roark (Fordham/USC) Miranda Seto (UC San Diego), Paige Song (UC San Diego), Emily Dinger (Brown) and Ilene Tsao (Emory University). On the boy's side, Rex Walters played in the NCAA Final Four for the University of Kansas Jayhaws. In 1993, Rex would be the 16th player chosen in the NBA draft and went on to sign a multi-year contract with the New Jersey Nets and would later become head coach of the University of San Francisco. The Terry Maruyama-coached Zebra team on which Rex played would be named the best Japanese-Ameri can basketball team of all time in a Nichi-Bei Times salute to Nikkei athletes and sports. Today's Zebras and Zebraettes are the recipients of a torch that has been passed from generation to generation in the hope that they will continue the Zebra legacy: the best in athletic performance, sportsmanship of the highest quality, pride in their ethnic background, and adherence to work ethic. In the beginning, the organization was founded to promote cultural, economic, and social values along with equitable ethnic competition. Although there have been many changes over the decades, the Zebras continue to respect the ideals and purpose of its founders, and strive to build on their work.

#32 To the Zebra Organization: I still remember eight years ago sitting in the car before my zebra tryout, wishing I could be anywhere else. I crouched down in the back seat and sized up the other girls as they walked towards the gym, scared that I wouldn’t measure up. But, after joining Zebras, I quickly learned that I had a flawed mindset. Through Zebras, I was able to appreciate what mattered the most to me–the girls I got to play with, developing lifelong skills of strong work ethic and grit, and being able to have fun doing what I love. Thank you to the Zebra Organization for creating a place for me to play that made basketball not only about basketball. Thank you to all of the parents, advisors, coaches, and other board members who work so hard to keep this organization alive. You are the reason that I got to play in such a warm and supportive environment and meet people who will stay in my life forever. Even though this chapter has come to an end for me, I will always be proud to say I was a Zebraette.

To My Coaches: I have had such a special experience learning from everyone who has helped our team over the years. Sometimes, we would have nearly as many coaches as players at practice. Coach Keila, from day one I have looked up to you. Your constant positive energy, kind words, and support added so much to our team and meant a lot to me. You’ll always be someone that I know I can go to if I need it. Coach Justin and Coach Ryan, I remember when you first started helping with our team–we were all scared for our lives. But I am so glad that you two loved us so much that you didn’t want to ever leave. From the many years of Gametime sessions to becoming my Zebra coaches, you have become my family. Coach Justin, You enjoy making fun of me way too much. But I am so thankful for everything you have done for us. I can count on you for anything, especially providing me with gum, reminding me when I’m not trying hard enough, and boosting my confidence when I need it. Coach Ryan, thank you for always being there to help me during the many times I would brain fart during practice and games. You almost always save me before Coach Justin sees. You’ve given me such useful pointers and advice. I aspire to stop falling for your ball fakes one day. Coach Gayle, you will always be Auntie Gayle to me. From kindergarten to my senior year, I wouldn’t have wanted anyone else to be by my side. We always used to joke about senior season but somehow it's not a joke anymore. I think back to our emotional talk in the paddle boat with Emi where we talked about what the next several years could look like if we were all on Zebras together. I would’ve never imagined that our visions would actually come to life and I will cherish these years together forever. I also want to express my gratitude toward my trainer, Garrett. Thank you for always believing in me and for helping me grow confidence in myself again. You helped me see things from different perspectives and gave me much needed advice without me asking for it. My love for basketball grew because of your support.

To My Teammates: Thank you for being the best teammates I could’ve asked for. Sometimes I watch y’all play and I think about how lucky I am that we’re on the same team. You’re all such great players and it’s so fun to play with people who always have your back. But, more importantly, you guys will always be family to me. Whether we’re napping together between games, trying to do homework but never getting anything done, getting boba, or even standing in an awkward social together, I’m always having fun with you girls and I’ll cherish the memories we create together forever. Jade, this journey wouldn’t have been nearly the same without you. You’re our leader, and intentional or not, you’re constantly making us laugh. Sierra and Mak, I wish we got to play with each other longer. You two are so extremely talented on the court and both the sweetest people off the court. Sierra, I’m really going to miss secretly and kind of harshly rating guys together. Mak, I’ll miss watching you demolish food like it's nothing and I’ll always be honored to participate in the iconic “gas or ass” food ratings. Cam, seeing you always lights up my day. I love learning new card games from you and thank you for letting me win sometimes. Emi, all I can say is we’ve been through it all together. Basketball is only a small part of our friendship but getting to play with you was so special to me. Kayla, you are one of the most genuinely endearing people I know. I can count on you to make me smile and I admire how you truly live life in the moment. Chlea, despite both of our injuries I am grateful for our friendship off of the court and I’m so glad we got to grow up playing together. I will miss your subtle comments roasting us that come out of nowhere. Sky, you’re truly one of the most uplifting people ever. You're someone I know I can trust and be myself around always. Maya, I’ll always enjoy listening to your weird stories and filming weird videos together. Although I never say it, I appreciate your constant offers to cry together, constantly checking to see if I am okay, and demanding me to update you on my life.

I love you guys and I’m gonna miss this. Zebraettesssssssssforever :’)

To My Family: Mom and Dad, thank you both for believing in me, pushing me, and always being there for all of us. Mom, you’re the hardest worker I know, and I am so thankful for the effort you put into our team. Thanks for being my role model in everything I do. You’ll always be my favorite person to rant to, the coolest team mom ever, and my best friend. Dad, thank you for always acknowledging my efforts and giving me useful advice. Your love for this team and dedication to this program made me love it all even more. I already miss shooting with you on Sunday mornings and guarding you at practice. Connor, thanks for playing 1v1 with me in the backyard and making terrible calls, it probably made me better in the end. Thanks for coming to watch whenever you can and telling me that I played well even when I didn’t. To the rest of my family, thank you for always putting aside time to come to all of my games and cheer on my team. Grandma and Boppa, even when you couldn’t come in person anymore, you guys still watching the game film from home meant a lot to me. Although I am horrible at accepting compliments, I appreciate all of the kind messages and constant affirmation from all of you. I love you all so much. <3

To the Zebra Organization: I would like to thank the Zebra organization for giving me the opportunity to be a part of a team that has been like a family to me, giving me a space where I can be myself off and on the court, and giving me an environment where I have been able to meet so many new friends and players. I feel as if I would be a completely different person had I not been a part of this organization. It has played a huge part in shaping me as an individual as I have grown up.

To My Coaches: Thank you to my many coaches. First of all, thank you to coach Gayle. She is all of the family roles -- a second mother, an older sister, an auntie, etc. She is truly the most giving and kind person I know. From her encouragement on the court for me to score more to the encouragement off the court to be less antisocial, Coach Gayle has been one of the most impactful role models I have had. Coach Kayla is one of the coolest and athletic people I have met. I truly appreciate her on-court and off-court support of everything I do; however, I especially appreciate her delusional thoughts when she says she can block my shot. Thank you to coach Justin for scaring me as a child and being scared of my pranks as I’ve gotten older. While I am thankful for how tough you have made me, I would also like to highlight all of the laughs I have had with you and at you. On the other hand, Coach Ryan is not someone who scared me as a child, but has been one of the people I fear guarding the most during practice. Thank you for making me look like a fool with all of your fakes, but also thank you for giving me such insightful advice on how to play the game. To all of the other many assistants that have come to our practices, I greatly appreciate the time that you have spent in making us better. It was always fun to have such talented coaches to play with and amusing to often see more coaches than players at practice!

To My Teammates: I would like to thank my teammates for being there for me through literally everything. They’ve been by my side from when I impulsively dance on the court to when I faceplant into walls. With the rough patches we faced due to Covid distancing, I now have an even greater appreciation for my teammates. They are the funniest, loudest, quietest, and kindest girls that I have met. Even though I have not been able to play my senior year, I have loved going to games and practices to be around these lovely girls. I could not hope for a better group of girls to grow up with.

To My Family: I would like to thank my parents for all that they have done for me in basketball. Not only have they been there to buy my basketball gear, drive me to practices, and cheer for me in games, but they have also mentally supported me and my decisions, and gone out of their way to help me achieve my goals. Whether it’s signing me up for basketball camps or going back around to pick up the shoes I forgot, they have always been there for me. They have sacrificed so much for me to pursue basketball, but what I most appreciate is the fact that they would support me in pretty much anything I'd want to pursue. They have been there with me through the "thicks and thins" of basketball, school, and life. I am incredibly lucky to have such loving, kind, and caring parents.

To the Zebra Organization: I’d like to thank the Zebra Organization entirely for giving me this opportunity to create memories with people who felt like family. Thanks to all of you, I’ve had so many experiences and lessons that not only will I always look back to, but have also helped me grow as an athlete and as a person. This organization has created a tight community filled with friendships and supporters, and that’s what makes it all special. You have been able to make basketball fun throughout the years, and I’m so grateful to have been part of such an amazing organization. Thank you!

To My Coaches: I’d like to thank all my Zebra coaches that have helped me through my basketball journey. Coach Gayle, the mom of this team, you’re such a positive person, always looking on the bright side no matter what, and I love that about you. You always check in on me, making sure I’m doing okay, and I appreciate it more than you know. Going above and beyond all the time, the love you have for the girls and I doesn’t go unnoticed, so thank you for that. Coach Keila, thank you so much for everything you’ve done for me- coaching me in games, giving me advice outside of basketball, and just the normal conversations we have. You always like joking around with the girls and I, and I’ll miss it so much, thank you for all of the memories. Coach Justin and coach Ryan, thank you both for teaching me so much in basketball. You guys always push us the hardest during practices, but are able to joke and make us laugh at the same time. With a lot of mixture within the coaching staff between “be serious” and “have fun”, you guys make every time spent enjoyable whether it’s on or off the court. Thank you all for always believing in the girls and I, even when we’re playing the LA teams or the ninjas. I’m so grateful for all of you, love you guys!

To My Teammates: To all of my teammates, thank you all for just being such a great group of girls to grow with, whether you’re newer to the team or not. You’re all the most kind and polite people I’ve ever met. What I love about this team is that it was always more than basketball. With you girls, it was the things off the court that made this all special. All the boba runs, holiday parties, LA trips, socials, etc., is something that I’ll miss so much moving forward. I’m really sad that I couldn’t spend a lot of time on the court with you guys as much as I thought I would, but watching you guys play together and win shirts, whether it was black or white, was so much fun. I know this group is full of a bunch of bright and talented hard-workers, so I’m so excited to continue watching some of you guys in your new college uniforms next year, and what kinds of things the rest of you guys will accomplish sooner or later. I love and will miss all of you!!

To My Family: Most importantly, I’d like to thank my family for everything they’ve done for me. To Tristan and Alex, you have helped me grow so much into the person I am today, and I love you both even though I don’t say it. You guys are the funniest people I’ve ever met, and I know I won’t be able to laugh with anyone else the way I’ve laughed with you two. Tristan, you were always the one who’d want to ride with me after games, hang out on the weekends, or watch movies at home, and it’s those little things that I'll miss the most with you. You’ve grown to be someone who attracts others, being able to build friendships with whatever situation you’re in. You still have so much ahead of you, but I know that bubbly personality of yours will take you far. Alex, we’ve always gone to school together and somewhat shared the same friend group, and I’ll miss that next year. You never fail to make people laugh, and are always ready to speak up whether it’s for yourself or for someone else. You have such a creative mind with so much intelligence and I know that will just continue to grow. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for you when it comes your turn next year. There are quite a few things I can learn from either of you, but I hope you guys can look up to me just as much. To my parents, words cannot explain how grateful I am for the way you sacrifice so much for my siblings and I. You guys are always putting us first, providing for us endlessly even if it means long days of hard work and little sleep. Whether it was basketball or school, you guys were always my number one supporters, and being as present as you guys are makes such a big difference. I’m lucky enough to hold and cherish these memories I have, all thanks to you guys. Thank you, I love you.

Favorite Quote: “Life is good.” - Drake & Future To the Zebra Organization: From my very first Zebra’s practice, the Zebra organization has always believed in me. During my high school basketball season, I’ve always looked forward to the Zebra season more. The Zebra’s Organization has created a safe space for me to enjoy playing basketball because of the freedom I was given and how much the organization believed in me. And to that I say thank you. Especially to the president of the Zebra organization or what I call him, Uncle Mark. Thank you Uncle Mark for always making jokes with me and pushing me in practice.

To My Coaches: Coach Gayle:Coach Gayle has always made me feel comfortablebeing on this team. We both know how I was when I first joined the team, but you made it so easy for me to blend with the girls. Your endless support in me and the other girls has made me appreciate her more than you'll ever know. I will always be thankful that you treat the girls and I like your own daughters; it has made me so thankful to have you as my coach. Thank you and I love you! Coach Keila:I have two older sisters, but after meetingCoach Keila, I now have a third. While Coach Gayle is more of a mother-like figure on the team, you're definitely the big sister of the team. I remember you telling me before I went into high school that I could call you if I’m ever in trouble or stranded and you told me you’d pick me up. To me, that showed how much you care for me and how I know I can always count on you. Tell Mr. and Mrs. Mah that they’re the dopest! Thank you and I love you!Coach Justin:Coach Justin has definitely challenged me as a player. Whether it’s scoring on me in practice and talking a mess or correcting me on my mistakes, you have always challenged me. And sometimes it may annoy me, but I know it’s because you believe in me and want to see me do well. Thank you Coach Justin, much love!Coach Ryan:Coach Ryan isdefinitely the hardest to guard in practice, but I love to guard you. You surprise me every time with a pass that I don’t expect or a move that breaks my ankles, but I never want to back down from the challenge. I’m thankful for the little details that you point out that I may not see on the court. It has improved my IQ as a basketball player and made me better overall. Tell Trevor I’ll miss messing around with him. Much love Coach Ryan!Auntie Tracy:I’m aware you’renot a coach, but Auntie Tracy is on the bench just as much as us players and coaches are. Auntie Tracy is a key part of our team and does everything that she can for us. You always listen to whatever random things I talk about which has always made me feel comfortable. And you never let me pay for my own food and you’re always okay with me sleeping over your house before tournaments. And due to all of that, you have become a second mom to me. Love you Auntie Tracy!

To My Teammates:

Chlea: One thing that I admire about Chlea and I’s friendship is how little we talk to each other, but as soon as we see each other, it’s like nothing has changed. We always catch up and talk about the new gossip in our lives which is something I always look forward to doing when I see Chlea. Love you Chlea and I know that we will always keep in touch even after Zebras! Jade: Thank you for being my very first friend on Zebras. I may have been shy and quiet when I first joined, but Jade brought me out of my shell. If I think that I’m being weird, Jade will reciprocate my weirdness and we just radiate off of each other. You’re always down to have fun with me; whether it’s dancing at socials or being down to explore with me, Jade is always down. Love you Jade, and I know you’ll kill it at San Marcos! Kayla: Although I often feel like the weird one on the team, Kayla always makes me feel better about it. When I make jokes or do something weird, Kayla is always laughing at me. I can always count on Kayla to laugh at me. Love you Kayla! Skylar: Like Jade, Skylar is someone that I know I can depend on to be weird with me. She is always adding onto my weird jokes and I do the same. I can always depend on Skylar to make me laugh. Love you Sky! Sierra: I’m so glad you joined our team, although I wish you joined sooner. Aside from Zebras, you and I grew closer due to Bueno and got to know each other on and off the basketball court. I’m going to miss us randomly yelling “Bueno!” to each other when we make an on court connection. Thanks for always laughing at my jokes and being my only friend on Bueno. Love you Sierra, and you’ll kill it at SUNY! Emi: If anyone is down to get Somi-Somi and boba, it’s definitely you. And I’m so thankful for that because I always need someone else to agree that we should get either of the two. I’ll miss having to ask you what our record is against the Ninjas because I’m very forgetful. Love you Em! Camryn: One of my bestest friends that I know I can always go to. No matter how little we talk, you and I both know that we will always be there for each other. The amount of deep talks we’ve sitting down on hotel lobby floors or on the floors of stores is endless. I can’t believe that will all stop soon, but I know that you and I will find a floor to sit on to talk about our lives. Love you Cam! Kendall: I’m still going to randomly FaceTime you in the middle of the night so we can cry together over life even after Zebras is done. Our good cries and deep talks are something I will cherish forever. I always look forward to sleeping over at your house because we never actually sleep. We just talk about anything and everything while we watch movies even though we have a 10 AM game the next day. Thank you for laughing with me until I can’t breathe and listening to my stupid problems. Love you Ken! Makena: LikeI told Sierra, I wish you joined our team way sooner. After you joined, you became an instant fit both on and off the court. We became great friends in such a short amount of time. You’re always down to do Tik Tok dances with me even if I suck at them. I’m gonna miss watching scary movies with the team while you cover your eyes in the corner. Love you Mak!

To My Family: Daddy and Mommy:You two have always supported mein everything that I do. Driving me to San Jose even though it's an hour away just because you both know how much I look forward to Zebras, it is just one of the many sacrifices you both do. Financially, you guys have supported my basketball and school expenses, but most importantly you have supported me emotionally. Mommy, I got my loving and caring side from you. I admire the way you give back to those who are in your village. I admire the confidence you carry that influenced me to exude that same confidence. Daddy, I get my stubbornness and love of geeky movies from you. I admire that we both love Star Wars and Marvel even if it’s geeky. I admire the drive you have even when things get hard. Without the two of you, I would not be the woman I am. I love you both so much.Ate Mia:I havealways looked up to you and admired how put together you were even when things get bad. You will probably tell me that you’re proud of me after I graduate, but I’m also proud of you. You’ve gone through so much and the woman you are today is someone that I’m proud to say is my big sister. Thank you for teaching me to always stand up for what is right and that it’s okay to be emotional. I love you Ate Mia. Ate Mira:As my big sister, you always look out formy best interest. You have always believed and supported me with basketball, school and photography. One thing I love is how happy you are to see me happy. You truly just want to see me win as a big sister and that’s real sister love. I love you Ate Mira!Malaya:My partner incrime, it's weird to think that when I go to college, I won’t be able to just go to your room and tell you anything that bothers me. Stranded as the younger two, you and I were always grouped together; and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m so proud of the person you’re becoming and will continue to be. I love you sissy wissy.

#11 Favorite Quote: “I appreciate all the fans. Hate me or love me, you still watched.” - Pete Weber To the Zebra Organization: My first memory of being part of the Zebra Organization is my four-year-old self running around barefoot doing cartwheels, being the best halftime show anyone could ask for. From this first to all the valuable experiences I’ve had thus far in such a supportive community, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to have been a Zebra. This organization has opened my eyes to a whole different “world” of basketball and allowed me to have a deeper appreciation of the game, while simultaneously enabling me to develop lifelong friendships I know I’ll be able to cherish for many years to come.

To My Coaches: I know I probably seemed like a lost cause because I refused to jump during my first years of playing, but I can proudly say my vertical is more than 3 inches off the ground now. You’ve really helped skyrocket my abilities and led me to become a defensive and offensive weapon.Coach Gayle, thank you for always having a radiant smileand bubbly personality. I’ve always admired your ability to connect with anyone and value your help in bridging the gap between so many different teams. I strive to be as wise, sociable, and inclusive as you are.Coach Keila,my favorite person to guard, you are a model of how I have adapted my basketball career. No matter how often an opponent can stop you, you’re always one spin move away from the basket. I want to thank you for being an approachable, relatable, food loving individual. It has been such a joy learning from you. Coach Justin, I wouldn’t be the player I am todaywithout your guidance. All the skills I possess and the drive to persevere through the game I attribute to you. Also, don’t forget you still owe me a pair of shoes.Coach Ryan, thank you for giving me theconfidence to face failure. I really appreciate all the times you left me wide open in practice to force me to take the layup and congratulating me about it after. With the amount of time and effort you all have exerted, you have positively shaped this team and me.

To My Teammates: Being able to watch all the players enter the team when they did, I can not imagine a more perfect group of individuals that were brought together. Each one of you contributes such unique perspectives both on and off the court that every time I am given the privilege to interact with you guys, you always push me to be a better version of myself. This group has taught me what it means to genuinely enjoy playing basketball on a team and I can not thank you enough for being so inspiring. I know that it may seem like I just want to get my fix of tea every time I ask “Boba?” after practice, but even if it’s just 10 extra minutes, it means I get to spend a little extra time enjoying your guys’ company. I’m so glad for all the memories we have made together throughout the years: the parents lining up to take pictures of us in our championship t-shirts, the time spent in between our tournaments playing video games at Coach Gayle’s work, the late night sleepovers at the Alicaya’s because we didn’t want to drive home. I’m going to miss our weekends spent together. Best swishes with whatever court you decide to take on next! I love you all :)

To My Family: There may not be an i in team, but there is an i in family.Mother Carole Hong, thank you for birthing me to life. I know I haven’t been the easiest child, but I appreciate the endless support and the time you always carve out of your work schedule to come to watch my games. Your dedication to doing what you love has been extremely influential in everything I do.Father John, you’ve taught me a lot about basketball and about life in general. I will always strive to be the smartest person in the room because of you. Thank you for always taxiing me around in the yellow car to all my extracurricular activities and hangouts with friends.Caitlyn, there aren’t enough words to describe how thankful I am to have you as a sister. From the full range of your capabilities, you’re always there to go to the grocery store and get cheese and crackers with me, to calm me down when I’m having an anxiety attack, to give me advice when I don’t know what to do in life, and essentially to carve a path for me to follow in your footsteps. You’re pretty cool.Collin, Thank you for coming to my games to yell at the refs when they made bad calls. And for yelling at them even when they made good calls that didn’t go in my favor. I appreciate you always having my back.Grandma, Whether it be Zebra or high schoolgames, I could always find you in the stands in your cute accordingly dressed outfits. Thanks for always coming to support me! I love you guys so much!

To the Zebra Organization:

Though I have only been a part of the Zebra Organization for a short amount of time, I feel as though I have been a part of it my entire life. Upon joining the team, I was welcomed with open arms to a family as loving as my own. I’ve made so many great memories, and have made so many new friends through this organization, and am thankful to be a part of it. My only regret was not joining sooner.

To My Coaches:

I would like to thank my coaches for constantly challenging and pushing me to be a better player, and person, every single day. They have shown me love and support beyond the court, and have become people I look up to. Thank you for always making me laugh and making my love for the game even bigger. Your endless compassion and dedication is greatly appreciated.

To My Teammates:

Thank you to my teammates who have made my experience on Zebras so fun. I have made so many great memories with everyone from Escape Rooms, to Google Forms and much more. Thank you for being more than just teammates, and welcoming me into a wonderful family. I am sad to see our time together as Zebraettes come to an end, but so proud I was able to play with each and every one of you. Thank you for always making me feel included and a part of the team. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us.

To My Family:

Thank you to my family for their endless love and support, not only through my journey of basketball, but in everything I do. I would not be the player, or person, I am today without them. From the beginning, always rooting for me from the stands and proud of my performance no matter how well or bad I played. To my grandparents who rarely missed my games and recorded them from the bleachers. I am so thankful for the positive influence they have had, not just in basketball, but my entire life.

To the Zebra Organization: I would like to thank the Zebra organization for giving me the opportunity to grow as a person and player with some of the best teammates and lifelong friends I could ask for. The culture within this organization makes me want to be around it all the time. I have found a sense of community and such caring people who glue this organization together.

To My Coaches: Thank you for giving us the tools to succeed and taking the time to make us better day by day. You show how much you care by just coming to practice and being a shoulder to lean on when we need it. Not only have you taught us basketball, but also the values needed in life to turn us into independent people. I could not ask for better coaches who put their players before themselves and I am so grateful.

To My Teammates: Thank you for being a joy to be with on and off the court. Growing up with you guys has made my basketball experience worthwhile. I can’t believe how quickly the time has passed, but I’m so glad I had you guys along for the journey. I appreciate the memories and inside jokes we have made over the past few years. Whether it was getting boba after practice or winning a black shirt, I wouldn’t want to do it with anyone else.

To My Dad: Thank you for all your sacrifices and being my #1 fan all these years. I wouldn’t have made it this far without you and all the little things you do is never underappreciated. Thank you for all the times you lifted me up and made me tougher. You have taught me to be the best version of myself and to work hard. To The Zebra Organization: Thank you for allowing me to be part of this amazing community. I am so grateful that I was able to play as a Zebraette for the past eight years. I’ve made so many unforgettable memories and lifelong friendships that I’ll cherish forever. These opportunities and experiences wouldn’t be possible without the hard work of the organization, so thank you!

To My Coaches: Coach Gayle: It’s been the best twelve years or so having you as my coach. Thank you for being a big part of my basketball journey, and for helping me grow into the basketball player I became today. I’m so grateful for a kind, caring, and supportive coach like you. Your support is not just limited to Zebras, but also for my high school basketball team and just life in general. I’m so thankful for all of your time you dedicated to our team for the past many years! Coach Keila: Many thanks to you for dedicating your time and effort for the past eight years to help make us better. Thanks for always being there to help build my confidence, and for always encouraging me to shoot whenever I doubted my shot. I’m so blessed to have you as my coach for so many years, and I’m thankful for how much you’ve helped me grow throughout the years. I love your endless support for me whether I am on or off the court! Coach Justin: Thanks so much for dedicating every Friday night to come and coach our practices to help our team improve. You always push us to our best ability, and I am so thankful to have a coach like you. Thanks for everything, and don’t forget about the shoes you owe Camryn, Chlea, and I from eighth grade! Coach Ryan: Thank you for also dedicating so much of your time to come to our practices. These practices would not be the same without your deadly pass fakes, and even after many years and many practices we still always fall for them. I really appreciate your dedication and effort to help make us better!

To My Teammates: I find it hard to believe that we are all seniors already! We’ve made countless memories together such as our boba runs, holiday parties, and the late night hotel hangouts, and I wouldn’t want to share these memories with anyone else. You guys always put a smile on my face, and make me laugh a ton. I’m so blessed to have met all of you and to have gotten to know you all more throughout the years. I know our season is coming to a close soon, but I won’t ever forget the great times we've had together. I wish the best for you all in college and future years, I know you guys will all go on and do great things. Thank you for being the best teammates and friends, I love you guys so much!

To My Family: Mom and Dad: Even though I may not show it, I am really thankful for you guys because this journey would not be possible without you. I appreciate how much time and effort you dedicate to me to drive me to and back from practices, traveling to tournaments, and so much more. Mom, thank you for your constant positivity and support for me, and for always cheering me on by clapping and sometimes jumping out of your seat. You always believe in me, sometimes even more than I believe in myself. Thanks for being someone I can always count on, I am so grateful I have someone like you! Dad, thanks for forcing me to play basketball, because without it, I would not have met so many of my friends and had all these experiences. I’m grateful that you drive all over the place just to get me to practice, and even now that I have my license, you still agree to drive me. Also, I appreciate how you’d always drive me to a gym to get some extra shots in because you want me to get better, but honestly most of the time I’d only go because you bribe me with boba. Thanks for always looking for ways I can improve my game, because without you, I wouldn’t be the player I am today. Grandma, Grandpa, Baba, and Papa: I’m so thankful for all of your support for me and my team for these past years. Whether my games may be five minutes or an hour away, you always make an effort to see every one of them and I truly appreciate it. Special message to Grandpa, I really cherish all of the sticky notes you would put on my desk the day after my games, saying something along the lines of “that was a good game”. Whether I had a good or bad game, you always left a positive message for me, so I thank you for always supporting and encouraging me. I’m so lucky to have had someone like you in my life.

To the Zebra Family: I’d like to thank every parent in the Zebra family for being so supportive and helpful throughout the past years. From having team dinners and boba runs to countless sleepovers, each one of you has played a huge role in the memories our team has made together. My development as a person both on and off the court could not have been possible without you guys. This group of parents is genuinely the kindest and most welcoming family a person could have ever wished for, and I am so happy that I was a part of this team and organization.

To My Coaches: Thank you Coach Matt for everything you have done for this Zebras team. You not only pushed us to become better players and teammates, but better individuals altogether. You watched our entire team grow and mature over the past couple of years, and we wouldn’t be who we are without you. You took the time out of your precious weekends and spent it with a bunch of annoying teenagers. I would also like to thank Coach Rick who taught me the fundamentals of basketball ever since I watched him coach my older brother. But when you came and coached us from the 5th grade, there was a constant amount of teaching moments at every practice. Thank you both so much!

To My Teammates: It has been a pleasure spending every weekend together with you guys. I remember going to school throughout the week waiting for the weekend to come just to hang out with you guys. Every moment we’ve spent together has been super enjoyable and I couldn’t imagine my life without you guys. Y’all always pushed me to be a better basketball player and I am so grateful to have such an amazing group of guys to have played with. I can’t wait to see all of your accomplishments in the future. I can only see great things lying ahead of each and every one of you guys.

To My Parents: I know my siblings and I might not say it enough, but we all love you so much. From the bottom of my heart, I can’t thank you guys enough for putting so much time and effort into making every single one of my games. I genuinely don’t remember the last game I had where at least one of you wasn't there (I would know since I wouldn’t have to hear my mom screaming). From the drives to all the practices and tournaments to the constructive feedback about my game, your unwavering dedication towards supporting me and my love for basketball never died down one bit. You both have always believed in me and have also always had my back no matter what. And for that, thank you so much. I love you guys

Favorite Quote: “You’re not getting into college”- Mr. Blaker, 5th grade teacher To the Zebra Organization: I would like to thank all the people that sacrificed their time to create an unforgettable and special experience for me as a Zebra. The Zebra Organization has allowed me to play the game I love and I will forever be grateful for the work the organization has put in. When I first joined the Zebras, I was nervous and shy but the kind and wonderful environment the parents created made me feel like I was part of the community.

To My Coaches: Coach Matthew, I am incredibly grateful for the sacrifices you make each day, whether it's dedicating your time to our practices, games, and tournaments, or even attending my high school games to support me. Your support for me is greatly appreciated and does not go unnoticed. I am truly honored to have such an outstanding coach who is there for me. Your generosity and dedication to the sport, the team, and the individual players are genuinely inspiring, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have you as my coach

To My Teammates: Thank you for all the memories you have given me. Even though I might not have been on the team as long as most of you, I always felt welcomed and part of the team because of the positivity and kindness you all show. Playing alongside all of you has been a privilege, and I am incredibly lucky to share this experience with everyone. Outside of basketball, just spending time with you all has been some of the most fun and memorable times of my life. Whether it was playing spike ball at the beach or simply having dinner, there was never a dull moment with y’all. I can't wait to make more memories with everyone.

To My Family: I LOVE MY MOM, SHE’S THE REAL MVP!!!! I don’t know what I would do without her. She’s always there to support me and make sure that I am okay. Whether that's cooking delicious meals for me or taping me up before games you always have been there. I wouldn't be the person I am right now if it wasn’t for you. You are the one that got me into sports and without you I wouldn’t be where I’m at today. You’ve sacrificed so much just for me and I don’t think I tell you how grateful I am to have a mother like you. To my dad, I remember when I was a kid, I wanted to be like you, and that is still true today. I don't know how you work all day and still have time to make it to all my games. I remember after coming home from school, we would play 2k, until you would rage quit because of how badly I was winning. Thank you for everything you have done for me, old Chinese man, you are an amazing dad. To both of my sisters, you guys are okay I guess. Thank you for letting me sleep in your room when I was scared of the dark, lol. You guys have created so many core memories for me. Tri-donut, the pillow pet shows, and the trips to Disneyland are all memories I will remember forever. I know I don't express it enough, but I am thankful to have such a great family. I could not ask for a better one.

To the Zebra Organization: From the first day I walked onto the court as a young player, the Zebra organization provided me with incredible opportunities to grow and develop my skills as a basketball player and person. My experience has been more than being a part of an awesome team, I gained friendships and extended families. I am so grateful for the coaches who have mentored me, the teammates who have become my brothers, and the countless hours of training and practice that have helped me reach new heights on the court. Thank you Zebra Organization for providing such a great basketball community and program for me to start and end my basketball career. My memories with Zebras will always be such a special time in my childhood.

To My Coaches: Coach Rick, I wanted to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude for all the guidance, support, and “tough love” you have provided me throughout my basketball journey. Your expertise, passion, and commitment to our team have helped me become a better player. You pushed me to be a more aggressive defensive player and the best player I could be.Thank you for believing in me and for helping me achieve my basketball goals. I am honored to have had you as my coach and will always remember the impact you have had on my basketball career.

Coach Matt, I am so grateful for your calm guidance and leadership. I appreciate your guidance in helping me “attack the basket” and “look off defenders.”I feel so fortunate to have had you as a coach and will always be appreciative of the influence you had on my basketball career and helping me become a stronger defensive player. Thank you for all your time and commitment you dedicated to our team.

To My Teammates: Thank you to my 2023 team for all the amazing experiences we have shared together on and off the court. The experiences we shared as a team were some of my best times I have shared with any basketball team that I have been a part of. We shared a lot of special memories together: from winning the championships, sleepovers, to eating out together, and they will always be special to me. Your support and friendship have meant the world to me and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to play alongside a talented and dedicated group of players. I will miss our team chemistry on the court!

To My Family: I am so grateful for the countless hours you have spent cheering me on from the sidelines and driving me to all my games. From the early days of shooting hoops in the driveway to the many games and tournaments we have traveled to together, you have been a constant source of strength, inspiration, and guidance in my life. Your sacrifices and dedication have helped me achieve my goals and become the player and person I am today. I am so lucky to have a family that gives me so much support, and I look forward to continuing to make you proud both on and off the court.

I would first like to thank Coach Rick, you helped me to grow in my youth as a basketball player and made the early years of Zebras a real blast to participate in. You made basketball fun as well as competitive and I wish you the best in life and health. I would also like to thank Coach Matt for being an amazing coach over the years. I really appreciate the freedom that you gave the team to run the plays we wanted in our high school seasons. You have helped me improve greatly in the role that I play in the team and never fail to motivate me to train harder and play better. I wish you all the best in life after retirement and in Andrew’s academics. Finally, I would like to thank Uncle Wayne. While you may not have had the title as coach, you have helped the team greatly in practices and in the instances that Coach Matt was unable to be at our games by coaching us.

To My Teammates:

It is kind of crazy to think that many of us have known each other for almost half of our lives all the way back in 4th grade Zebras. I also appreciate the people who have joined later such as Austin and Pranav who made a lot of the tournaments where we traveled possible such as Hawaii. I will never forget the memories that we have made together, whether it is hanging out at the gym waiting for the next game or hanging out at Muk’s house in between games. I want to wish you guys all the best in what route you decide to take after college.

To My Family:

Your on court and off court support cannot be understated, you guys have helped me grow and mature asa person and still push me to be a better version of myself. Mom - Thank you for helping the team record all the games so we can look in awe at our highlights or laugh at our teammates' misfortunes that happened in the games. Dad - Thank you for pushing me to be a better player all the time and to help me improve my game. I know that sometimes I can be hard to push and motivate but I appreciate all the effort you have put in to make me a better player. Michael - While we may not have played for the same organization, you still tried to come out and support my games and cheer me on which was greatly appreciated. I also appreciate how you would play 1v1 against me in the backyard to better improve my skills and push me to improve myself.

To the Zebra Parents:

I really appreciate all the work behind the scenes that you guys all do in order to make every practice and every tournament possible. The Hawaii trip is one I will never forget and it all happened thanks to the parents' hard work. I would specifically like to thank Auntie Tracey and Uncle Matt for letting the team always hang out at your house in between games and hosting sleepovers for us when we were kids. I would like to thank Uncle Keith for helping us take photos on the court which always look awesome. I would also like to thank Uncle Ray for helping us plan all the tournaments out and finding new tournaments for the team to play in. Finally, I would like to thank Uncle Wayne and Auntie Ruth for hosting gatherings and parties at your house.

To the Zebra Organization: Thank you to everyone associated with the Zebra organization who has sacrificed their time and energy so that I, along with many others, could have an unforgettable experience as a Zebra. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to play basketball while creating countless memories and bonds that will last a lifetime. This organization has created such a wonderful community that will be with me wherever I go. I am honored to have been a part of this family and hope I have represented it well.

To Coach: Thank you for everything you have done for me. Whether it be selflessly putting in your own hours to train me one on one or just seeing a better player in me that I couldn’t even see in myself, you have always been right by my side pushing me to be better and supporting me every step of the way. Among many other things, you have taught me to be more confident in myself and to overall just be a better person. Sorry for our lack of championships to show for your time.

To My Team: Dang 2-1 curse. Thank you for all the memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life. I will never forget the sleepovers, the not really thought-out birthday boba crawl, the cramps, and all the happy memories we created over the years. I’ll never forget Warriors camp where I met Kai and lost in a rigged championship to Jayden. So many years later I still remember all the random things we did like the human pyramid, trying to figure out who would be on the bottom and how to get Matthew on the top. All these seemingly insignificant moments show how we could take any normal situation and turn it into something memorable. Together, we have created a family that I know will always have my back. I feel so lucky to have been a part of this team and I am so glad I got the chance to play with such amazing players and people. Going forward, as we start our separate paths, I hope to stay close to you all and continue to strengthen this bond to last a lifetime.

To My Family: Thank you for all your support. It means the world to me to know that I will always have your support. I would especially like to say thank you to my parents for all the time you have put into me and my team. Thank you for the countless hours sacrificed driving me to practices and tournaments. Thank you for allowing us to have sleepovers even if it meant we might suck for the championship game. Thank you for always being there for me after tough losses and through every up and down that life has thrown at me. Although you can be loud, I couldn’t imagine playing games without your presence. From my grandparents to my extended family, I feel like there was always someone there to cheer me on every game and I thank everyone for their relentless support. And because you’ll get mad at me if I don’t mention you, thank you, Kylie. Although your support has been mainly in aspects of life outside of basketball, thank you for being there for me through everything. I appreciate all you do for me, especially that one birthday you sacrificed at my tournament that you never fail to remind me about.

To The Zebra Organization: I have been a part of the San Jose Zebra Organization since the 4th grade. The team had become a second family. I want to say thank you to the San Jose Zebra Organization for inviting me as a young kid that helped me grow into both a basketball player and the young adult that I am today. The relationships I’ve gained within the Zebras and entire Asian Ball community has made this an unforgettable journey. I will without a doubt take my experience as Zebra to progress forward in my adult life.

To My Coaches: I would like to thank both my current Coach Matthew Breaux and my previous Coach Rick Nagasako for their volunteerism and commitment to the 2023 boys team. They sacrificed their personal time in place of spending time with the team. I appreciate the mentorship, confidence and faith they provided which developed my abilities, that pushed me to play better with the Zebras, Bernal Middle, Santa Teresa High School, and various AAU teams. On behalf of the team and families, I am very grateful for the coaches’ contributions to the team and families.

To My Teammates: Next, I would like to thank all my teammates that I had played with throughout the years. I will always remember the hard fought moments that helped us win multiple tournament games, and all the off court hang out time we spent together creating lifelong brotherhood and friendships. The games brought us together and the fun continued off the court. I remember the delicious food we ate while traveling, Great America trips, Hawaii, birthday parties, sleep overs, etc. To my Zebra brothers, although we have come to an end of our Zebras journey, you will always be part of my life.

To My Family: Finally and most importantly, I would like to thank my family - Ray, Tammy and Nico. Thank you for always supporting my games, practices and events. I know it wasn't always easy, but I knew my family was always there. Sometimes the tournaments were far, or I had a challenging game, but they always supported my development and helped me thrive. Without my family, I don’t know if I would have had the motivation to get out of my comfort zone to appreciate all my experiences. I have truly enjoyed and will honor the memories. This is not a farewell, but a new chapter yet to unfold in life. Go Zebras!!!

#7 Favorite Quote: “I am ready to face any challenges that might be foolish enough to face me” - Dwight Schrute To the Zebra Organization: I want to express my gratitude to the Zebra Organization for giving me the opportunity to play for and represent them. I’m grateful for the countless times I’ve been invited to guest play throughout the years, as well as the short time I’ve been able to call myself a Zebra. Thank you to the parents that put in countless hours behind the scenes to make every team’s season run smoothly. Because of Zebras, I have been able to meet new friends and grow closer to old ones. Thank you again for allowing me to have this experience.

To My Coaches: I want to thank every coach I’ve had throughout my basketball journey. Every single one of you has left an imprint on me, shaping me as a player and a person. Thank you Coach Wayne for always pushing me to improve in games and at practice. Coach Matt, thank you for pushing me to be the best I could possibly be at any given moment. Whether it be CYS or Zebras, you have always shown your love for the game and for our team. Thank you for being the best coaches I could’ve ever asked for. Coach Danny, words can’t express how grateful I am to you. If I hadn’t joined West Coast Xtreme, I don’t think I would’ve been able to develop into the player I am today. Through the years of playing for you, I’ve grown so much. You always sacrificed everything for us and pushed us to become disciplined and driven players. Every practice, every game, you have brought your passion and shared it with everyone. You’ve always made me smile and laugh throughout practices. Even though I didn’t continue AAU throughout high school, I am thankful for everything you’ve done for me and my family.

To My Teammates: From the first time I guested for you guys, I’ve felt like this team was another home. Being able to spend time on and off the court with you guys is always super fun. I always looked forward to every practice or weekend we had a tournament. From practice to boba runs after games, I’ll hold every single memory deep within my heart. I hope that no matter where we all go in the future we stay in touch. Thank you for welcoming me to this team, thank you for being some of the best friends I could ask for, and thank you for being my second family. I love you guys.

To My Family:

Thank you mom and dad for everything you’ve given me throughout the years. Thank you for the constant support you give me through anything, whether it's basketball or something else. You both have always done the most to help me pursue anything that piques my interest. I’m forever indebted to you for all the time, money, and effort you put to have me live the best life I possibly can. Thank you for taking me to practices, tournaments, and training sessions. Thank you for being my number-one supporters at games. Thank you for everything. Love you both <3, and Jalen, too.

To the Zebra Organization: Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be a part of such a close-knit community. From the moment I joined, I knew that this was the right place for me. The warmth and comfort that this organization welcomed me with allowed me to fit in easily. I developed many new lifelong friendships within the Zebra organization that I know will continue to flourish. Thank you for allowing me to play the sport that I love against some of the best competition that I’ve played, and shaping me into the best player that I can be. I am extremely thankful to have been a Zebra for the past 7 years, and I will always cherish what this organization has given me.

To My Coaches: To Coach Rick, thank you for showing me and giving me the opportunity to play basketball at a level I never imagined myself to be at. I remember coming to the first practice being nervous and knowing nothing about the game. But you welcomed me with open arms and taught me various skills and fundamentals that I still use to this day. I am so grateful for how you pushed me and helped me mature as a player. Thanks to you, I have developed a newfound appreciation and enjoyment for basketball in all aspects. To Coach Matt, I want to thank you for always pushing me and giving me great advice that has stuck with me through these years. All the fundamentals and hard work you have shown has helped me improve as a player throughout the years. You have helped prepare me for high school basketball, and I credit my success to you. You have played an important role in my basketball career and cannot thank you enough. I am grateful for everything you have done for me and the team, and I would not be the player I am today without you.

To My Teammates: It has truly been a blessing and an honor to play with you guys. Thank you for all the memories we have made throughout the years and the experiences we’ve had on and off the court are truly special to me. From winning tournaments to staying at boba shops for several hours, all these unforgettable memories are what truly built my friendship with you guys. I always had a great time with you guys and I know this feeling of happiness will always linger even after going our separate ways. We always found a way to make it work on the court, and the bond we created off the court reflected our play on court as well. Playing with you guys has been amazing and you guys will always be my brothers for life. I wish you all the best of luck in the next chapter of your lives and will always be thankful for all the experiences we’ve had together.

To My Family: I want to thank you for always staying by my side and supporting me no matter what. Even through my highs and lows, you guys were always there to comfort me. I know that I can be a pain to deal with at times and I may not show me appreciation, but I truly am super grateful for everything you guys have done for me. From ensuring I maintain my academics, to making sure I played well in sports, I thank you for shaping me into the person I am today. All the long drives to practices and always cheering me on even if I wasn’t playing the best, this has shown me how much effort you put into my success and can’t thank you enough. I can not stress the appreciation I have for the dedication and hard work and all the sacrifices you have made for me. Words cannot describe how grateful I am for everything you have done for me, and thank you for being my biggest supporters.
