ZEBROS PROJECTS IMAGE PROCESSING METHODS ABSTRACT:
We proposed an embedded system and a Webcam to design an embedded monitor system for body breath detection (EMSFBBD) which monitors and records the patient’s breath and sends the information to a specific server through the Internet. Our design uses image processing methods to monitor and record human breath fluctuation and to calculate the breath rate. If the breath rate is too low, too fast or stops for more than 10 seconds, our design sends out an alarm signal. Our EMSFBBD consists of two parts. For the first part a Webcam is used to capture images and to transmit them to an embedded board. For the second part an image processing program using the temporal differencing algorithm to detect chest expansion and contraction to determine the breath rate is installed in the embedded board. Our design monitors the vital signs by way of the breath rate.
EXISTING METHOD: The traditional way of monitoring the breath rate involves contact with the human body. For example, for Impedance Anemography, one side of the electrode, which is placed on the skin of the chest, sends a high-frequency current, and concurrently uses the other side of the receiving electrode to receive the current changes that take place during a breathing cycle.
METHODS FOR FINDING MOVING OBJECTS
We proposed design detects chest expansion and contraction, is similar to the detection of a moving object by image processing. There are three major methods used to detect a moving object. Temporal differencing
Background Subtraction
Optical Flow
Temporal differencing
This method used to find the difference between two continuous image data, obtains the changes in the volume of a moving object. If the background variation is not great, this method works well. Its disadvantage is that this method is unable to completely discover the outline of the moving object
Background Subtraction
This method establishes the background of the images and then inputs one image after another in order to cancel the background and to obtain the moving object. This method, which can produce a complete outline of moving objects, is very sensitive to changes in the environment because the background is established from the very beginning. Optical Flow This method used to calculates moving locations in time to discern each pixel in the image. This method requires a large amount of computing, and its use in an embedded board seriously affects efficiency.

PROPOSED METHOD:
The system sends images captured by the Webcam to the embedded board where through digital image processing the EMSFBBD determines the breath rate of the human body to detect whether the breath rate is normal. The LCD displays the realtime status of the breath rate on the embedded board. If no signs of life are detected, a warning message is sent to the hospital by the network interface of the board.
In our design, we use “temporal differencing” which has a higher image processing speed and whose use in the embedded board will not result in much of a burden. In the “temporal differencing” method uses two continuous images for subtraction to detect the moving objects. Moreover, the “temporal differencing” method quickly adapts to changes in lighting or background. Although this method may detect moving objects which are already broken, we learn if any moving object is detected. When the body is far away from the webcam, we use the nearest neighbor interpolation method to enlarge the images. The enlargement method calculates the zoom ratio, and then determines the pixel of the new images.
The temporal differencing method which reads the continuous image from the Webcam, then fetches the separated image, processes this image at the gray level, and then enlarges all the images of the object. This method finds the subtraction of the continuous images, chooses the threshold value for the decision, uses a Gaussian filter to remove noise and then obtains the chest displacement in breathing.
