ZEBROS PROJECTS A REAL TIME TRAFFIC LIGHT CONTROL SCHEME FOR REDUCING VEHICLES CO2 EMISSIONS ABSTRACT The increasing growth of vehicle numbers in the world, Global warming is becoming a serious issue. Vehicle CO2 emissions are considered to be one of the main sources of global warming. In order to reduce vehicles CO2 emissions, a dynamic traffic light control scheme is proposed. In the proposed scheme, we are the first to use Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) devices to obtain real time traffic flow information for a traffic control center. By the proposed scheme, vehicles can pass through intersections with less waiting time and fewer numbers of stops. By smoothing vehicle travel, CO2 emissions can be reduced. Compared with fixed time control, the simulation results indicate that the proposed scheme has much better performance: vehicle average waiting time is greatly reduced and CO2 emissions can also be reduced. EXISTING SYSTEM As one of most popular applications of ITS, Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) technology has become a mature technology that is widely used in all over the world. It takes advantage of the communication between inter-vehicle devices (On Board Unit (OBU)) and roadside devices (Road Side Unit (RSU)) to realize highway road pricing with non-stop passing of toll gates by vehicles. Communication between OBU and RSU is based on the Dedicated Short Range Communications (DSRC) technology. ETC technology, we employed a decision tree based traffic light control algorithm to control traffic lights and allow more vehicles to pass through the intersections with less waiting time. The simulation results turned out to be very promising. However, we only evaluated the proposed scheme in a single intersection scenario and did not consider

ZEBROS PROJECTS the cooperation between adjacent intersections, and the traffic control algorithm also needed to be improved.
BLOCK DIAGRAM CONTACT: ZEBROS PROJECTS PHONE: 9940098300, 9500075001 DESCRIPTION Global warming is a very serious problem which is becoming ever worse as the growth in the number of vehicles. In the fast emerging world, vehicles become mandatory for all purposes. The vehicle emissions pollute the atmosphere thereby leading to many hazardous effects. So it becomes essential need to develop a system which reduces the emission of CO2 from vehicles. This system involves a real time traffic lights control scheme for reducing vehicles CO2 emissions based on the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) installed vehicles. Real time road conditions are obtained by wireless communication between the vehicles and the traffic lights based on the Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) technology. Usually, vehicles follow stop-and-go driving scheme. This will consume more fuel and emit more CO2 than constant speed driving. To reduce vehicles' CO2 emissions, vehicles' travel should be smoothed by reducing the stop-and-go times.
This system involves a three-level structure to realize dynamic traffic light control for smoothing vehicles' travel. In level-1, an electronic toll collection (ETC) system is employed for collecting road traffic flow data and calculating the recommended speed. In level-2, radio antennas are installed near the traffic lights. Road traffic flow information can be obtained by wireless communication between the antennas and ETC devices. In level-3, a traffic control server controls the traffic and controls the signal being indicated. ZEBROS PROJECTS After smoothing vehicles' travels, more vehicles can pass intersections with less waiting time and fewer short-time stops. This results in drastic reduction of CO2 emissions. The average waiting time, short-time stop times, and CO2 emissions are greatly reduced, and the nonstop passing rate is greatly improved in this system.
