REIMAGINE THE AFRICAN CHILD
Habi Doucoure’s inspiration derived from Kaleidoscopes, which are ever-changing patterns/sequence’s. This range is called “The Reimagining of a Traditional African Child.” This theme is her personal story of how she sees herself living in a modern day society, but still rooted in cultural tradition. In essence, her range depicts what a modern day traditional African woman looks like. Doucoure used two fabrics, black Melton and African wax print and she also made use of cowrie shells (cultural African symbol) that she used as embellishments and personalization. This feature on the garment emphasizes her identity, a culturally traditional aspect. This range tells the story of a reimagined traditional African child that embodied her identity but also encompassed the winter 2019 trend Kaleidoscope through the use of the fabrics and overall look.
