I am pleased to give an overview of the present developments in Zenica, a Central Bosnian city that is making huge steps towards a more prosperous future. The city administration has embarked on a very important mission that is primarily aimed at changing the way people think and perceive the current developments. To do that, it is fair to start changing the way the administration thinks first. Following the first two years in office, we can say the changes not only started, but they have become a part of the system that will never be dependent on any individual again. With such an active approach to both our own work and that of our counterparts, we have gained a much needed self-confidence and went beyond what was once considered as boundaries to realistically possible achievements. Our vision is shared by an increasing number of people. Our transparency is being recognized by ever greater number of local and international business people and politicians. Our development ideas are becoming a trademark they recognize us by in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Two years ago, one could hardly expect the ruinous concrete catacombs of the would-be “Kamberovića polje” Sports Center to be turned into construction site that will very soon give birth to a new city Arena, hotel accommodations, business and shopping center. It was hard to believe that right next to that huge construction site a modern Athletics Stadium, one of the best of the kind in this part of Europe, would be built in just five months, to provide training facilities throughout the year. We have demonstrated to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Europe that we can organize the most demanding international events even if under extreme pressure. Once we proved successful hosts to the Balkans Athletics Championships, the European Athletics Federation awarded us hosting the European B-League Athletics Competition in June 2007. With regard to renewal of the local infrastructure, we have opted for long-lasting and quality solutions. We have broken up with the practice of useless patching and partial problem solutions. The city roads and infrastructure is being rebuilt thoroughly and completely. We wish the next generations enjoy the results of our work for at least next 50 years. Having won the British-sponsored competition for Beacon Municipality in local economic development, Zenica gets reassured of the proper policy it pursues. Our strategic partners are very supportive of what we are doing. Our Industrial Park is turning the old devastated steelworks plants into lively construction place for new manufacturing facilities and new jobs generators. For those who have just started their business, we have set up a Business Incubator and offered more favorable conditions for their start-ups. We wish to offer the youngsters of Zenica an alternative. By offering favorable start-ups conditions or by building sporting facilities, we believe we do our part in fighting the plague of the new age that turns young people into passive and disheartened addicts. In a word, Zenica is a city of never-ending changes and challenges. If you decide to become part of this pulsating energy, we shall do everything in our power to remove obstacles standing on the way. Dragi prijatelji, Zadovoljstvo mi je predstaviti sadašnji trenutak Zenice, grada u centralnoj Bosni koji krupnim koracima gradi prosperiteniju budućnost. Glavna misao vodilja aktuelne općinske administracije je napraviti pomak prvo u načinu razmišljanja, a potom u praktičnoj provedbi zacrtanih planova. Odabrali smo aktivni pristup i najprije promijenili način razmišljanja uprave, a potom se usmjerili na druge. Nakon dvije godine rada, možemo reći da promjene ne samo da su započele nego su postale i dio sistema koji više neće zavisiti od pojedinca. U tom aktivnom pristupu sebi i drugima, stekli smo samopouzdanje i pomjerili granice onoga što se smatra realno mogućim i ostvarivim. Našu viziju dijeli sve veći broj ljudi. Našu otvorenost priznaje sve više domaćih i stranih privrednika i političara. Naša ideja razvoja postaje obrazac po kojem nas prepoznaju u Bosni i Hercegovini. Prije dvije godine teško je bilo pretpostaviti da će ruševne betonske katakombe na Kamberovića polju prerasti u gradilište koje će u najskorije vrijeme iznjedriti novu gradsku sportsku Arenu, hotelske kapacitete, poslovni i šoping centar. Teško je bilo zamisliti i da će u neposrednoj blizini tog golemog gradilišta za samo pet mjeseci niknuti najmoderniji Atletski stadion u ovom dijelu Evrope gdje je moguće trenirati u svim vremenskim uslovima. Pokazali smo i Bosni i Hercegovini i Evropi da možemo organizirati najzahtjevnija međunarodna takmičenja u najkraćem roku. Nakon uspješno organiziranog Balkanskog prvenstva u atletici, iz Evropske Atletske Federacije ukazali su nam povjerenje da 2007. godine organiziramo Evropski B-Kup u atletici. U obnovi lokalne infrastrukture odlučili smo se za dugoročna i kvalitetna rješenja. Dokinuta je praksa beskrajnog i beskorisnog krpljenja i primjene parcijalnih rješenja. Gradske saobraćajnice i infrastrukturnu mrežu obnavljamo sveobuhvatno i potpuno. Želimo da u plodovima našeg rada uživaju generacije barem u sljedećih 50-tak godina. Sticanje statusa Općine predvodnice lokalnog ekonomskog razvoja po britanskoj Beacon shemi još je jedna nezavisna potvrda da idemo dobrim putem. Strateški partneri uviđaju da je zadovoljstvo poslovati sa ljudima iz Zenice. Naša Poslovna zona se pretvara iz starih i zapuštenih željezarskih pogona u živo gradilište novih industrijskih kapaciteta i fabrika novih radnih mjesta. Za one što tek počinju vlastiti biznis, pripremili smo Poslovni inkubator i povoljne uslove za počinjanje i stabiliziranje biznisa. Želimo mladima Zenice ponuditi alternativu. Bilo da se radi o povoljnim uslovima za biznis ili izgradnji sportskih kapaciteta, smatramo da se je to najbolji način borbe protiv pošasti savremenog doba koje od aktivnog mladog čovjeka prave pasivnog i malodušnog ovisnika. Rječju, Zenica je grad stalnih promjena i izazova. Odlučite li da i vi postanete dio ove pulsirajuće energije, učinićemo sve da otklonimo prepreke na tom putu. Regional Landfill Mošćanica Regionalna deponija «Mošćanica»


The first phase of the construction of Regional Landfill „Mošćanica“is coming to an end. This landfill is to be used as a disposal site for the waste coming from the Zenica-Doboj and Central Bosnia Canton municipalities, in line with the latest environment sustainability standards. The Landfill will be put in operation in a few months from now. The project investments are estimated at around 8 million KM.

U završnoj je fazi izgradnja prve faze Regionalne sanitarne deponije „Mošćanica“ Zenica. Ovdje će sanitarni otpad iz općina Zeničko-dobojskog i Srednjebosanskog kantona biti deponovan po najsavremenijim ekološkim statandardima. Prve količine otpada na Mošćanici bit će odložene, kako se očekuje, polovinom ove godine.Vrijednost projekta je cca 8.000.000,00 KM.

BSC Kamberovića polje Poslovno sportski centar “Kamberovića polje”


In the mid-September 2005 a decade-old dream of the Zenica citizens seemed to start becoming a reality: Construction of business & sports center „Kamberovića polje“ finally started. The Compound is to accommodate a shopping center, a five-star hotel and a city arena for 6,000 spectators. The total value of the compound is estimated at around 100 million KM. The works are expected to be finished by the end of 2007. This will mean the employment for 500 people.

Sredinom septembra 2005. godine započela je realizacija decenijskog sna svih Zeničana: Izgradnja poslovno sportskog centra «Kamberovića polje». Kompleks čini tržni centar, hotel sa pet zvjezdica i gradska arena sa 6000 sjedništa. Ukupna vrijednost cijelog kompleksa procjenjuje se na oko 100 miliona KM. Završetak radova očekuje se krajem 2007.godine. Očekuje se posao za oko 500 ljudi.

CIMOS CIMOS


Slovenian „Cimos“has registered its company in Zenica – „Cimos TMD Casting“ to deal with automotive parts casting with the starting capital of one million KM. The first stage of the facility construction is under way. Most of the equipment has been supplied and the facilities is getting ready to employ more than 600 workers to manufacture components and assembling parts for automotive industry. Its full annual capacity is estimated at around 750.000 tones per year.

Slovenački «Cimos» registrovao je svoju firmu u Zenici „Cimos TMD Casting“ za lijevanje i obradu odljevaka s početnim kapitalom od milion maraka. Prva faza izgradnje fabrike je u toku.Već je nabavljen veliki dio opreme, a hale se pripremaju da prime preko 600 radnika koji će proizvoditi sastavne dijelove i sklopove za automobilsku indutriju za svjetske proizvodjače automobila. Kapacitet joj je 750 000 tona godišnje.

Roads Putevi


Most of the 42 projects planned to be implemented in road construction sector in 2006 has been completed. The remaining works at Crkvice settlement and some short road sections are about to be finished soon. The total investment in this field amounts to 4.7 million KM. Zenica Municipality in cooperation with its local communities has been implementing the „50:50“ projects for the second year in a row. It means that each single KM invested by citizens is followed by another KM allocated from the municipal budget. 37 projects have been financed in this way and 10 km of road built.

Od planirana 42 projekta u oblasti putne infrastrukture na području Općine Zenica u 2006. godini većina je završena.Ostatak radova na rekonstrukciji Ulice u Crkvicama i nekim manjim dionicama privode se kraju. Ukupno je investirano 4,7 miliona KM.Općina Zenica u saradnji sa stanovnicima mjesnih zajednica već drugu godinu uspješno realizuje projekat «Marka na marku».Na svaku marku koju mještani ulože u rješavanje problema u svojim mjesnim područjima Općina ulaže dodatnu marku iz budžeta. Na taj način je realizovano 37 projekata i izgradjeno 10 kilometara puta. 19

Water management Vodoprivreda


In 2006, 120 projects were implemented in the water supply sector. The value exceeds 3,200,000 KM. The value of the labor done by the citizens themselves amounts to 1,050,000 KM.

U toku 2006. godine realizovano je 120 projekata u oblasti vodoprivrede na području Općine Zenica. Vrijednost im je preko 3.200.000 KM. Sami gradjani su u te projekte uložili svoj rad koji se procjenjuje na 1.050.000 maraka.

Bridges Mostovi


In recent months Zenica has either started or completed building of bridges across the River Bosna. The investment value of the Kanal bridge is 1.4 million KM. The pedestrian bridge at Vraca settlement has already been completed with the investment totaling to 135,000 KM. The Drivuša bridge costs amounted to 300,000 KM. They have been built by local companies ŽGP and Metalno Zenica who made their best to do the job on time given the importance these bridges have particularly for school children and workers.

U Zenici je u protekle dvije započeto ili uaradjeno nekoliko mostova na rijeci Bosni.Vrijednost investicije za izgradnju mosta na Kanalu iznosi 1,4 miliona KM. Pješački most u naselju Vraca već je završen i koštao je 135.000 KM. U most u Drivuši uloženo je 300 hiljada KM. Radile su ih domaće firme ŽGP i Metalno Zenica, koje su se potrudile da ih na vrijeme i kvalitetno završe, imajući na umu važnost projekata za mještane, posebno djecu i radnike.

Business Incubator Poslovni inkubator


Upon rehabilitation of devastated structures within the Business Zone „Zenica 1“, all preconditions have been created for setting up a Business Incubator. This is a strategic project for the city government offered to people who have business ideas but lack assets to implement them. The primary goal of the Incubator is to create new jobs. The site is equipped with all required infrastructure, and has 25 workshop facilities available.

Adaptacijom ruševnih objekata u sklopu Poslovne zone «Zenica 1», stvoreni su uslovi za formiranje Poduzetničkog inkubatora.Ovo je strateški poduhvat općinske uprave, koji je ponudjen ljudima koji imaju dobre poslovne ideje a nemaju dovoljno sredstva za njihovu realizaciju.Prvenstven cilj inkubatora je otvaranje novih radnih mjesta. Lokalitet je opremljen svom potrebnom infrastrukturom, a raspolaže sa 25 radioničkih prostora.

Business Zone „Zenica 1“ is located next to the „Mittal Steel“ Zenica manufacturing plants and lies adjacent to the Zenica urban area. It takes up 332,241 m². All preconditions have been created for fast development of small and medium-sized companies. Seventy land plots and 19 structures are to be used by business people having some plausible and feasible business ideas.

Poslovna zona «Zenica 1» je smještena neposredno uz proizvodne pogone firme «Mittal-Steel» Zenica i naslanja se na gradsko područje Zenice. Zauzima prostor od 332.241 m2. Stvoreni su uslovi za brzi razvoj malih i srednjih preduzeća. Sedamdesetak parcela i 19 objekata namijenjeno je poslovnim ljudima sa dobrim poslovnim idejama.

Business Zone - Pečuj Poslovna zona - Pečuj


Business zone Pečuj is located at the regional road north of Zenica. This compound is stretched on around 25,000 square meters and accommodates companies like Selecta, Ekoprom and Almy. The business structures are either completed or being built and will be used for PVC joinery production, wholesale trade facilities or storages.

Poslovna zona Pečuj nalazi se na sjevernom prilazu gradu Zenici. U radnoj zoni Pečuj na prostoru od oko 25.000 kvadratnih metara smještene su firme: Selekta, Ekorprom i Almy. Objekti koji su dijelom izgrađeni ili su u fazi gradnje predviđeni su za proizvodnju PVC stolarije, veletrgovinu i skladišne prostore.

Marketplace Tr탑nica


Roof installation and modernization of the City Marketplace has enriched the image of the city center and Zenica-Doboj Canton. Around 200 stand-alone booths and stands are under the roof now. The onemillion KM investment has given a new impetus to the city development.

Natkrivanje i modernizacija gradske tržnice dala je novi izgled Zenici, centru općine i Zeničko-dobojskog kantona. Pod krovom je smješteno 200 montažnih stolova. Investicija od milion maraka dala je novi razvojni impuls gradu.

Main ring road Glavna gradska magistrala


Zenica is going to build a ring transit road to be connected to the future European corridor 5c. The „Konsalting“ company from Brčko is working out the project design documentation. The 8-km long main city transit road will stretch from the Blatuša Flyover further to Bojin Vir, Perin Han flyover with the linking road cutting across Business zone Pečuj, Pehare and Kanal Bridge. The approximate value of this project is estimated at around 30 million KM. The works are scheduled to start in 2008.

Zenica će napokon dobiti modernu prometnicu koja će se uklopiti u budući autoput na koridoru Vc. Preduzeće „Konsalting“ Brčko radi projektnu dokumentaciju. Glavna garadska magistrala u dužini od 8 kilometara prostirat će se na potezu petlja Blatuša - Bojin Vir - petlja Perin Han, dok će vezna saobraćajnica dužine kilometar ići linijom Radna zona – Pečuj – Pehare - most Kanal. Okvirno ovaj projekat koštaće oko 30 miliona maraka. Kako se predvidja izgradnja gradske magistrale počinje početkom 2008. godine. 35

Museum Muzej


Zenica City Museum is being built at the very heart of the city. It is a compound of 1,500 m² that will play a major role in terms of culture and historical heritage. The construction activities are financed by Zenica Municipality and Zenica-Doboj Canton. The total value of this investment revolves around 2 million KM.

U centru Zenice gradi se zgrada Muzeja grada Zenice. Novo muzejsko zdanje od 1.500 m2 je od velike važnosti za kulturu i kulturno naslijeđe ovog kraja. Investitori projekta su Općina Zenica i ZEDO kanton. Ukupna vrijednost investicije je cca 2 miliona KM.

Vranduk Vranduk


In a number of historical records Vranduk has been depicted as the most interesting, enigmatic and the hardest-to-conquer part of Bosnia. Vranduk was first mentioned on March 10, 1410 in historical records kept at the Dubrovnik Archives. In collaboration with Zenica City Museum, the Institute for protection of cultural, historical and natural heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina has performed required conservation-restoration works. These joint efforts help Vranduk preserve its historical values.

U brojnim putopisnim zapisima Vranduk je skoro uvijek opisan kao najinteresantniji, najzagonetniji ili najtvrdji dio Bosne.Vranduk se kao grad prvi put spominje 10. marta 1410. godine u dubrovačkim spisima. Zavod za zaštitu kulturnog, historijskog i prirodnog naslijeđa Bosne i Hercegovine uradio je neophodne konzervatorsko-restauratorske te sanacione radove na utvrdi u saradnji sa Muzejom garada Zenice. Zajedničkim naporima želi se utvrdi Vranduk vratiti stari izgled. 41

Traditional Bosnian House Bosanska kuća


By reconstructing an old traditional house in Vranduk, all the prerequisites have been created to accommodate art colonies and creative workshops for youngsters throughout the year. A medieval fortress of Vranduk is thereby becoming a center for a number of artistic events. The Traditional Bosnian House features an art atelier, dining room, as well as other facilities that make it a pleasant abode. Given the fact it has its own heating system, it could receive guests throughout the year.

Rekonstrukcijom stare bosanske kuće u Vranduku, obezbijeđeni su uslovi za održavanje umjetničkih kolonija, kao i kreativnih radionica za mlade. Srednjovjekovna tvrdjava Vranduk postaje centar brojnih umjetničkih dogadjaja. Stjecište BiH i svjetskih likovnih umjetnika . U Bosanskojh kući uradjen je radni atelje, sobe za smještaj gostiju, trpezarija, kao i drugi neophodni sadržaji za boravak na Vranduku. S obzirom da postoji i grijanje Vranduk će moći primati goste tokom cijele godine. 43

Art club Art klub


Art Club is located at the Bosnia and Herzegovina Square. It is still under construction. It is designed as an indoor facility offering a possibility to be turned into outdoor stage. The premises are designed for small-audience movie projections, theatrical plays and artistic exhibitions.

Art klub u Zenici smješten je na Trgu Bosne i Hercegovine.U toku je njegova izgradnja. Zamišljeno je da to bude natrkriveni prostor s mogućnošću da se u ljetnim mjesecima otvori.Prostor je namijenjen za manje filmske projekcije, teatarske predstave i likovne postavke te kafe bar.

The works on „City Arena“ at Kamberovića polje have been intensified recently. The first stage of concrete works is under way. The international bidding procedure for roof structure is over now. The Arena will accommodate 6,000 spectators. This year’s budget includes 12 million KM allocated for this project.

Na Kamberovića polju intenzivirani su radovi na izgradnji «Gradske arene». U toku su pripreme za izgradnju prve faze betonskih radova. Završen je medjunarodni tender za radove na krovnoj konstrukciji. Arena će imati 6000 sjedećih mjesta. U ovogodišnjem budžetu za ovaj projekat izdvojeno je 12 miliona maraka.

Athletics Stadium Atletska stadion


In early September 2006 Zenica was a host to the Balkans Athletics Championships. In a preparation for the event, a brand new stadium was built in the shortest possible period of time. The stadium includes a whole range of up-do-date training facilities including four indoor 100-meter tracks for coaching and training purposes under all weather conditions. This was the 4 million KM investment. This year we are about to host the European Athletics B-League.

Početkom septembra prošle godine Zenica je bila domaćin Balkanskih atletskih igara za seniore. Ovim povodom u rekordno kratkom vremenu rekonstruisan je stadion na Kamberovića polju. Izgradjena je tribina i niz pratećih objekata. Stvoreni su uslovi za zimske treninge u zatvorenom prostoru, na stazi dužine od 100 metara. Radi se o investiciji od oko 4 miliona KM. Ove godine planira se dogradnja stadiona za predstojeći Evropski kup u atletici, čiji smo domaćini.

Bowling alley and skating ground Kuglana i klizalište


The Zenica’s bowling alley has been out of operation for the past 15 years. Now it is one of the most beautiful and best equipped bowling alleys in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The old bowling alley was reconstructed by the local company CB Consulting. In addition to five tracks, café-bar, dressing rooms and sanitation units, the backyard accommodates the artificial grass football field. In the winter months this will be turned into skating ground.

Nakon gotovo 15 godina Zenica je ponovo dobila kuglanu. Radi se o jednom od najljepših i najopremljenijih kuglana u Bosni i Hercegovini. Staru kuglanu preuredila je zenička firma CB Consalting. Pored terena sa pet traka, kafe-bara, svlačionica i sanitarnih čvorova u dvorištu objekta izgrađen je i teren za nogomet na umjetnoj travi. U zimskom periodu taj teren pretvara se u klizalište.

Social care development Razvoj socijalne zaštite


Within the social care development plans for 2008, the first phase of reconstruction and rehabilitation of the PI Social Care Center Zenica has been already implemented. This is a 68,287.84 KM worth investment. Also, 14 welfare projects have been implemented so far. Those were financed by the Municipality that allocated 87,000 KM for this purpose. The projects are aimed at providing welfare for children and youth, elderly and disabled people, as well as to promote human rights, small business for disabled people, employment for parentless youngsters and help the poor Roma in their education and promotion of a healthy life style.

U okviru plana razvoja socijalne zaštite u općini Zenica do 2008. godine, realizovana je prva faza rekonstrukcije i adaptacije objekta JU Centar za socijalni rad Zenica. Vrijednost investicije je 68.287,84 KM. Također, uspješno je realizovano 14 projekata iz oblasti socijalne zaštite. Projekte je finansirala Općina, u iznosu od 87.000 KM. Cilj svih projekata bio je zaštita djece i omladine, starih i iznemoglih osoba te promoviranje ljudskih prava, mali biznis za invalidne osobe, radno angažovanje djece bez roditeljskog staranja, pomoć djeci korisnicima stalne socijalne pomoći, Romima u učenju, afirmaciji zdravog života i humanitarne pomoći ugroženim licima.

Under the roof of the city marketplace there are some 80 pre-fab booths allocated in May 2006 to the veterans associations members. It is the 360,000 KM worth investment. This helped provide subsistence for 80 veterans’ families.

Na prostoru natkrivene zeničke tržnice sagradjeno je i opremljeno 80 boksova, poslovnih prostora koji su u maju 2006. godine podijeljeni pripadnicima boračkih organizacija. Radi se o prodajnim objektima u koje je uloženo 360.000 KM. Na ovaj način riješena je egzistencija za 80 boračkih porodica.
