Welcome
Local Business Investing In Our Community
It has been a busy couple of months in the Deepings - first the new Saturday Market started - LoveDeepings launched their new shop local campaign, we hosted more tractors (118) than ever before in John Eve Field as part of the Newborough Young Farmers tractor run and the Rotary Club of the Deepings staged their popular 3k Fun Run and 10k Road Race. While progress was made at the signal box, businesses gave their building expertise to replace some of the monkey houses at the Exotic Pet Refuge. The climax of this activity was the worldwide outpouring of sympathy for the Market Deeping Model Railway Club after the devastation caused in the run up to their popular annual show in Stamford as a result of wanton vandalism. If something shines through from all of this it is that we must treasure what we hold dear! So from 25th May - 8th June make sure that you participate in The Fiver Fest Fortnight - checkout LoveDeepings for further information. As we go to press the Deepings Literary Festival is set to begin - let’s keep the love going all summer long! - Judy Stevens 3

The Vikings in the Fens by Dave Turner
16
FEATURE The word ‘Viking’ immediately conjures up a people of immense cruelty and savagery but is that a true reflection of the Vikings? The period known as ‘The Viking Age’ was from 793-1066 AD. It is the period of history when Scandinavian Norsemen explored Northern Europe by seas and rivers in order to trade but also to raid, conquer and colonise that part of Europe which was not already in their hands. In England the beginning of the Viking Age can be dated back to 8th June 793 when Vikings attacked and destroyed the Abbey of Lindisfarne, the island lying off what is now Northumberland. The monks of the abbey were either thrown into the sea or carried away as slaves along with all the abbey’s treasures, giving rise to the view of the Vikings as being cruel and barbaric. Viking attacks in East Anglia and the Fens began in 867 AD. After arriving on the East coast from Denmark, the Viking armies wintered at Thetford in Norfolk before starting their campaign of conquest and plunder across much of England. One by one each Anglo-Saxon kingdom was destroyed from Northumbria in the north down to East Anglia in Norfolk and Suffolk.
was made a saint and even the Danes venerated him after their conversion to Christianity in 886. His shrine was turned into an abbey and eventually gave its name to ‘Bury St Edmunds’, and it was one of the most powerful abbeys in the country. The following years after 870 were a terrible time for the East Anglian Church. Monasteries were a favourite target of Viking raids due to their great wealth. The monastery at Ely was sacked in 870 and the site abandoned for over 100 years, and it was not until the reign of Edgar the Peaceful (959-975) that Benedictine monks settled in the Fens and the church recovered. It is thought that thousands of Danes settled in East Anglia during this period, both peasant farmers and more of the elite class. Small settlements were established throughout the region and many of them can still be identified by their place-names; those ending in ‘by’ means a settlement or farmstead, such as Thurlby, Aslackby, Aswarby and Osbournby. ‘Thorpe’ means outlying a farmstead or hamlet, such as Manthorpe, Northorpe and Grimsthorpe. The Vikings settled in their own communities with leaders known as Jarls or Earls who would settle all problems within the community, many Vikings became farmers and craftsmen as they settled down in these newly conquered lands. They saw Britain, and especially East Anglia, as a lucrative spot in which to settle with rich fertile land for crops and an abundance of water, as well as a relatively warm climate compared to much of Scandinavia. However, at this time the Fens were a truly inhospitable place, consisting of great areas of marshland, small
The Vikings were immensely skilful boat builders as well as being proficient in navigating by the stars, their sea-going boats known as ‘longships’. With a long narrow hull and shallow draught, they were designed for speed and warfare, enabling the armies to land their boats in the shallow waters of the estuaries and rivers of East Anglia. Built out of ash and clinker they were equipped with oars to complement the sails in calm conditions. At the time of the first Viking invasion Edmund was the king of East Anglia; he initially tried to make peace with the Viking invaders but finally they met in battle in 869/870 at Hoxne in what is now Suffolk. Edmund was captured by the Vikings and finally murdered by them; however, soon after this Edmund continued >

FEATURE lakes and meres. It was a damp, misty place with plagues of mosquitoes in the hot summers and prone to flooding in the winter months, and so most of the Viking settlements were on higher ground just out of the fenland area. Viking homes were called ‘hus’ and were built of whatever local material was available, and here in the Fens, with its lack of trees, many were built of blocks of turf, whereas in many other areas timber was used from the many forests that existed in those times. Most Viking houses were long and rectangular and consisted of only one room with a small window and shutters without glass; there would be a fireplace in the middle of the house with a simple hole in the ceiling to allow the smoke to escape. The floor would be made of stamped earth with raised platforms along the walls for seating and sleeping. Despite being known for their raiding and pillaging the Vikings were primarily farmers at heart, working with iron tools like hoes and sickles to tend the land and growing barley, oats and wheat. The grain would be ground to make flour or porridge. They also grew vegetables such as beans, cabbages and onions as well as rearing farm animals such as pigs, geese, sheep, goats, chicken and cattle. In winter time it was not unknown for the people to share their longhouse with the animals, the animal byre being situated at one end of the longhouse. There are no specific records of Viking raids up the Rivers Welland into The Deepings; however, both Crowland Abbey and Peterborough Abbey were attacked in 870 AD. Stories were told of the monks of Crowland Abbey escaping with the body of St Guthlac, along with jewels and religious artefacts. 18
The Danes then murdered the Abbott Theodore along with most of his monks, and burned the bodies as well as the monastery buildings. The Vikings then moved on to Peterborough Abbey, murdered the Abbott Hedda and 84 monks, and destroyed the altars, library and many records of the Abbey. It has been also recorded that much of the treasure the Danes plundered from Crowland Abbey was lost in the River Nene as they made their way up to Peterborough. It is easy to see how both the abbeys of Crowland and Peterborough struggled to survive this onslaught, with the few remaining monks making their way to Thorney Abbey which survived the worst of the attacks. So what was the Vikings’ legacy? They were close enough culturally to the local Anglo-Saxons of that time and so were able to integrate quite easily, and it is thought that many East Anglians must have Viking ancestry. They were certainly important in the growth of certain towns; both Cambridge and Thetford by the time of the The Deepings Norman Conquest in 1066 had become two of the largest towns in England, perhaps due to supporting Armed Forces Da trade with Scandinavia, but most importantly Sunday 30th June John Eve Fielyd the Vikings helped in the unification of England The Vikings of Middle England and the creation of the English people… there Fens Falconry Beer Tent can be no finer legacy than that.

MEET THE MAKER FEATURE
Micky Culff Magical forests, haywains from the glory days of farming, creatures from far-off shores – all have made their way onto the globes dexterously handcrafted by Micky Culff as his artist’s talent combines with a lifetime of experience in the aluminium and steel welding industry. He had reached a turning point in his life, having completed a successful career as a welder at Wilcox’s, his first job after leaving the Deepings School. His daughter Shelby had embarked on a career as an aircraft technician and Micky had a new partner, Raechell Viner, at the time a PCSO. It was time to embrace another career move and one that would tie in with his commitment to the Deepings Fire Service. It was a perfect storm and one that would see the abilities of Micky as a sculptural artist come to the fore, as his images are crafted onto hemispheres which can be used as fire pits, barbeques and as outdoor sculptures.
20
Working closely with clients to ensure that their preferred inscriptions, pets or memories are first depicted onto the hemispheres with chalk pens. The designs are then dexterously cut out using a plasma cutter. The fireballs prove to be the ideal retirement or anniversary gift, great for weddings and parties and the ultimate garden focal point! They can also be powder-coated in a variety of colours when their purpose is to remain as a garden sculpture. They can be found as far away as Austin, Texas, and in the French Alps and they have been transported all over the UK. They arrive replete with a book depicting the images that have inspired the fireball and the stages in its construction. The Vikings, a safari holiday a saying ‘travelling makes you speechless and then makes you into a storyteller’ have all been immortalised in the carefully crafted steel spheres which Micky can produce in anything from a week to a month for the more complicated balls, watched over by his seven-year-old collie dog, Molly. Scenes from the English countryside remain perennial favourites while more dramatic woodland scenes depicting majestic stags and towering firs are also popular. The fireballs start at £699. They have also been joined by coffee tables, bespoke outside seating areas, gates and decorative wall mounts. Of course, when the ’Tommy’ purchased by the Town Council to commemorate the end of the First World War was vandalised, it was Micky they turned to, and who, in time for the ceremonial events, skilfully crafted a more durable replacement. Like the fireballs – all by local craftsperson Micky Culff in Deeping St James.
‘The fireballs prove to be the ideal retirement or anniversary gift, great for weddings and parties and the ultimate garden focal point!’

JORVIK
Jorvik centre Want to immerse yourself in the sights, sound and smells of life in Viking England? Maybe you live in Lang toft – a village still bearing the name of our Viking ancestors – then make your way to the Jorvik Centre in York! On 27th August this year Impressions Holidays will be running a day trip to the city – an ideal opportunity to familiarise yourself with the Centre, especially as it embarks on an exciting three-year collaboration with the British Museum. Treasures on display include items from the Halton Moor Hoard, coins struck with the image of Canute when he was both King of Denmark and England, and the die used to cast them towards the end of his reign. Weaponry, including spearheads and a pattern-welded sword found near Windsor, are also on display with axe heads and stirrups of the kind used by Vikings when travelling overland on horseback. There is also some exquisite jewellery discovered off the Swedish coast at Gotland. The excavation of four Viking-age houses in the Coppergate area of York in 1978 gives the biggest clue as to what life was like at this time and the unique artefacts that were found during this archaeological dig have been carefully preserved and presented so it is possible to conjure up what life was like in a previous age. The resulting historic attraction is more like a film set than a museum – one in which you are literally transported through time, moving round a Viking village and spying on scenes from a previous age. York Archaeological Trust even used computer technology to reconstruct the image of a Viking fisherman using the skeleton of a 10th-century man unearthed in Fishergate.
People form a critical part in this reconstruction and the tale of this mystical race is told through the Arabic Trader, the Hunter and his dog, the Blacksmith and his son, the Fisherman, the Leatherworker and other players in this powerful reconstruction. A glass-floored gallery enables sight of the original excavations showing visitors exactly how the remains were uncovered and includes 1,000-yearold timbers of a Viking house. This summer the role of women in the Viking age is explored with the arrival of artefacts discovered in the Isle of Man, the Pagan Lady of Peel Castle. Visitors will be able to see a stunning necklace which retains the colours of glass, amber and jet as well as a miniature pestle and mortar and an ammonite fossil which was possibly a talisman. If your taste buds are whetted by the re-enactors and this year’s Deeping Carnival, then a visit to the Jorvik Centre in York will not disappoint! Photos: James Stevenson

WALKS
The Deepings is one of Britain’s Top Ten Walking Neighbourhoods for 2019 Following our nomination by Deepings First earlier this year, The Deepings has been judged to be one of ten finalist ‘Walking Neighbourhoods’ across the country by a panel from the national Ramblers Association, and the only one in Lincolnshire. The Ramblers have produced a short promotional video for everyone to watch and we could win the top Award if we receive sufficient public votes. A walking neighbourhood is an urban environment that is designed to enable residents and visitors to access local shops, amenities and green spaces in a safe and enjoyable way without the need to use a car. It is no secret that regular walking has great health and well-being benefits for individuals, families and for communities. We are really fortunate to have the delightful geography of the area, wonderful history and a long record of walking as a way of life here. Being a walking neighbourhood has always been a key part of our Deepings identity and walking contributes hugely to the general sense of welcome and friendliness that we are known for. It is also the practical way that our unique heritage is passed on through the generations.
CALL TO ACTION DURING JUNE – this is a national campaign and we will need all the votes we can get for The Deepings to be crowned as ‘Britain’s Best Walking Neighbourhood.’ Please go to the Ramblers website: www.ramblers.org.uk to view the video and register your vote now. Also, please email and tell all your family and friends across the country to vote for us. *Deepings First is our joint Neighbourhood Planning Group that is actively working to ensure we develop as a healthy area with good homes, a thriving local economy, attractive green spaces and excellent opportunities for walking to shops, schools and all key services. Our Neighbourhood Plan will be published for local consultation very soon. Later this year – in October we will also be taking part in the South Lincolnshire Walking Festival and have entered three guided routes for you to join us and explore the Deepings. - Pam Byrd

Here in the Deepings, we have a long and rich history of traders and travellers meeting to exchange their goods. All the fine buildings and the two coaching Inns in the Market Place are a legacy of Market Deeping’s strategic position as a staging post between London and Lincoln. It has been an important Market Town for over eight hundred years.

The river walk is a very pretty stretch of the Welland along Bridge Street which combines heritage features such as High Locks and the old Deeping Gate Bridge, with the natural wildlife that inhabits the riverbanks. This lovely area is included within a longer guided walk to Low Locks and is also the location the Deepings Annual summer Duck Race.
Church Street DSJ lies nestled along the route between the old Deeping Gate Bridge to the Cross Lock-up and Priory Church. It offers a charming mix of well establish private homes, local shops and a Post Office. The Old Bakery has been in operation since the early 1800’s and is a delightful feature of the street offering a wide range of artisan baking and a friendly tea shop. 27

Church Street MD is regarded as one of the prettiest in Lincolnshire with old stone buildings on either side, many dating back to the 17th century and the tower of St Guthlac’s Church can be seen directly ahead. These houses tell the story of the town over the years and this street is so evocative of times past that it once had three different antique shops. The street also contains two of the town’s remaining public houses - The White Horse and The Vine Inn.

CRICKET TEA LADIES
Putting the tea in Cricket! It was 1962 and Gerry Smith had just married Tony the captain of Market Deeping Cricket Team and moved into her shiny new house in the Grove. One of her first visitors was Sybil Edwards, wife of Stamford garage owner, Joe, who immediately inveigled Gerry into the ladies cricket teas rota! The ladies cricket tea team, arguably every bit as important as the team itself, included June Garford from Northborough, wife of Fred, and Dorothy Kew and of course Sybil. Providing the cricket tea was part and parcel of the marriage certificate for those whose husbands played! Initially the team played on the Peterborough side of Market Deeping Bridge but when the pavilion burnt down the matches were held on a fenced-off field of White House Farm on the Stamford Road while cows calmly grazed on the outfield and teas were served in the barn. Margaret White would bring a kettle and china crockery. In 1969 a fundraising walk for a new ground for the Club went north from the Market Place for 20 miles with a comfort break at Langtoft village hall with participants at one stage lying on the path in West Deeping with their legs in the air! Eventually the new premises opened on a field owned by Joe Edwards off Outgang Road – at first just used by the Tennis and Cricket Clubs. There has been expansion over the years and Deeping Rangers football teams now meet here as well, providing entertainment well into the next century for a burgeoning population. A roll call of the names of the ladies who would vie to serve the ultimate cricket tea is a list of old Deeping: Eileen Castle, Pat Dethick, Ann Parks, Maureen Booth, Francis Smith, Josie Smith, Kathleen Heywood, Eileen Barrett, Barbara Buckley, Jenny Stacey, Doris Gillett, Elaine Titman, Sandra Jones, Ruby Randall, Mary Burton and Lesley Evans . Firm friendships which have lasted a lifetime have been formed and the ladies still meet several times a year for a cricket lunch! Market Deeping cricket teas were the talk of the
league – Gerry’s meringues singled out for particular mention! They were prepared by two ladies for each game. There were two loaves of sliced white bread for each lady and fillings included cheese and tomato, ham, scrambled eggs with mayo – covered up to keep fresh with a wet tea towel – there was no cling film or foil then! There were cream horns, éclairs, Victoria sponge and individual cakes. The coup de grace was the annual Chairman’s tea. Plans for the weekly tea rota were made annually – the first meeting was at Margaret and Bill Evans house in Halfleet and later at the Woodhouse Room at the Bull. Children would be pushed in pushchairs over uneven fields and would forge friendships as tea was laid out and leather on willow could be heard in the distance, an idyllic time that would reach a crescendo when the annual trip to Hunstanton took place at the end of the season in the first week of October. There would be a stop at Sandringham. Gradually the group evolved and during the seventies there were evening meals out at Fratelli in Spalding, the Bluebell at Glinton and Toninos. There were riotous camping trips to Moreton in Marsh in a field looked after by Eddie Gillett’s father who was the groundsman. A convoy of caravans in various stages of repair would make their way through Gloucestershire and families would disgorge themselves into the countryside, sometimes with disastrous results. Ruby Randall memorably fell down a step but there was a
doctor in the house, John Heywood, who drilled a hole to allow the blood to drain away! Locals would shut their windows to mask the sound of the Deeping kids enjoying themselves on their hols! There was also a lot of very loud singing! There were fundraisers for the new Sports and Social Club at the Deepings School, frequently attended by up to 200 people. Food was provided by the ladies and the cricketers entered into the entertainment with great gusto, on one occasion borrowing blouses, donning white tights and creating a cameo ballet performance in which Keith Barratt’s role was legendary! At the heart of this ever-growing town and village are groups of people such as the ladies of the cricket teas, who still catch up today and provide the key to a happy and healthy community. Putting the ‘tea’ in cricket - read Phil McCann’s book on this quintessentially English topic! Zoe’s weight loss journey I began my journey with Slimming World around two months after having my baby. I had gained 2 stone 6lbs during my pregnancy on top of the expected healthy amount. My parents had been telling me that I needed to watch what I was eating but I used my pregnancy as an excuse to indulge in whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted it! My midwife had also pointed out on a few occasions I had gained a little more weight than expected but I paid no attention. I just couldn’t see it myself and thought it was all baby. Very quickly after having my daughter it dawned on me that perhaps I should have listened to the advice I had been given. I lost all confidence and began to get a lot of anxiety about leaving the house. I had planned on going to all the different mother and baby groups but I just couldn’t bring myself to. My self-esteem was at an all-time low and I felt as if I had lost the old me. My sister had started going to Slimming World
with a friend and suggested that my partner and I go along; I had seen the difference in her and thought, why not give it a try. We decided to join as a couple as my partner had also gained a fair bit of weight during my pregnancy. After the first week we couldn’t quite believe just how successful we had been. We threw ourselves into it and the results were fantastic. We love to cook (and eat!) so this was something so easy to follow. We bought a few of the cook books and were trying something new every night. The food was delicious and plentiful. Even though our desire to lose weight was strong our love for food hadn’t changed so this plan fitted into our normal family life perfectly. With every pound lost my confidence was regained. I’ve now lost a total of 2 stone 7lbs in ten months and it has totally changed my life. Being a new mum is hard, battling the sleepless nights and the temptation

OIL SPILLAGE
Photo: Julia Pike
Oil spillage on the Welland The mission to limit the damage caused by the recent oil spill caused by the wilful deposit of several oil drums in the River Welland started with a rather handsome collie, Connor. It was his owner Julia who spotted the unlikely sight of three swans with black necks. ‘I was walking Connor along the river bank on Tuesday morning and first noticed three swans with black necks. Later I saw two oil drums in the river, and the oil slick.’ Julia knew that Dave Vandome, volunteer manager at the Deeping Lakes, would be somewhere on the reserve as his van was parked near the shipping containers. She waited for Dave to return to the vehicle and told him what she had seen. It was still very
misty, but obviously something serious was unfolding, and he immediately contacted Trust HQ, the Environment Agency and the RSPCA. As it was a Tuesday Dave was soon joined by other volunteers for their regular work party. Dave sent two volunteers to try to assess the situation and to recover the oil drums. Around 20 swans were spotted caught up in the pollution. A team from the Environment Agency and the RSPCA was quickly deployed to the site where a number of swans were rescued in a joint effort. The Agency used booms to collect and contain the oil. In an ongoing operation the Environment Agency were continuing to liaise continued >

with the RSPCA if they need further help in treating swans or other birds harmed by the oil. A spokesperson for the EA said: ‘We would like to thank all the members of public and volunteer groups who took time and trouble to report and help respond to the recent pollution problem which took place on the River Welland near Market Deeping around 30 April.
to help rescue some swans caught in the pollution. ‘No one wants to see wildlife and their habitats suffer as a result of pollution, which is why we work so hard to prevent it, and hold to account those who cause it.’ ‘We are still appealing for information about this incident, so please call our incident hotline 0800 80 70 60 or Crimestoppers UK 0800-555111 if you can help.’
‘We are continuing to monitor the river for pollution problems. ‘We are presently analysing oil samples collected and our booms will remain in place for some time though the oil has now largely naturally dispersed.

‘There have been no further reports of distressed birds since the time of the incident when we worked closely with the RSPCA

Five great Deeping dog breeds All dogs need love, compassion, training and all of the five freedoms to be met. The five freedoms are something all good dog owners should be providing their family member: freedom from thirst and hunger, freedom from pain, injury and disease, freedom from discomfort, especially as they get older and are more prone to diseases such as arthritis, freedom from fear and distress, and freedom to express their normal behaviour. Dogs need training but they need to be able to express their normal behaviours. If you are looking for a dog I would always suggest researching that breed and that their normal behaviours fit within your family life.
Rebecca Westwood,
Head Veterinary Nurse at Mark The Home Vet.
The five most popular dog breeds in the Deepings:
2. The English Springer Spaniel. We have two, a 14-year-old girl and a 6-month-old boy. From personal experience they are loving, and great with children because of their temperament. They have a reputation for needing lots of exercise and are often seen as country dogs with long grass sticking out of their (often wet) long curly ears. The Kennel Club says ‘The Springer Spaniels earned their name by their practice of “springing” forward to flush the game into nets. After the invention of guns, the breed was used to flush game from undergrowth. The liver and white colour is the most popular but black and white and tri-colours occur in lower numbers. The English Springer is the most popular of the spaniels for working in the field.’ Suitable for – families that love the outdoors, great with children. They love – running in fields and woods and cuddling by the fire. What to look out for – keep their ears clean as they can be prone to ear infections – probably due to all the river swimming! Hours spent removing debris from ears and coats!
1. The Labrador. No surprise here, this breed is great in the countryside. The Kennel club says their popularity is because of their versatility as family companion, service dog, guide dog as well as a working gundog. The breed originates from Newfoundland, which from the 16th century was renowned for the fishing industry with well-established trading routes between England and Canada. Dogs were used there to help fishermen retrieve nets and lost lines and pull carts loaded with fish. The Newfoundland dogs were smaller than they are today and a Image: Mark Fordham smaller variety was known as the St John’s dog. It is thought that these breeds crossed with hunting dogs taken to Newfoundland by English traders and fishermen formed the basis for the modern Labrador. Some of the dogs resulting from this breeding were taken back to England where their retrieving skills were recognised by the sporting gentry. One of the early patrons of the breed, the Earl of Malmesbury gave the breed its name. The first breed club was founded in 1916. Suitable for – families that love the outdoors, great with children. They love – running in fields and woods and cuddling by the fire. What to look out for – wet paw prints on freshly mopped kitchen floors! Wet noses and soppy faces that will melt your heart. 38
Image: Barry Osborne
3. Border Terrier. Another working breed. The kennel club says ‘Essentially a working terrier’ and the breed remains so, hugely popular in the country for his gameness, but adapting also to family life in the town and city. The borders of Northumberland and Scotland gave the breed its name around 1880 after he was used as the earth dog with the Border Foxhounds. He had also earned the local names of the Reedwater Terrier and the Coquetdale Terrier.” Suitable for – families that love the outdoors, great with children. They love – being outside and resting on laps. What to look out for – they have a reputation for having attitudes, of which I can neither agree with or deny! Small dog hairs on all clothes, even those that have been hanging in the cupboard for weeks.

BOOKS
The Deepings - a fiction? by David Brown You would have thought that we are surrounded by enough Deepings already without looking for others within the pages of books, but in recent months two more Deepings have come to my attention. As a big fan of juvenile adventure books, I was delighted to find a copy of The Deeping Secrets, subtitled ‘A Paradise Barn story’ by Victor Watson, in a paperback edition first published by Catnip Books in 2011. Set in wartime East Anglia, the fictional village of Great Deeping is located just to the north of Ely, mid-way between Littleport and Southery, close to the River Great Ouse. Inspired by the brave deeds of the train crew in a real-life incident at Soham in June 1944 when ammunition wagons caught fire, this work of fiction involves subterfuge and some persistent children who ignore their elders’ commands in pursuit of the good of the community. It is well worth reading to see how it all works out.
Then one night, when sleep eluded me in the early hours, I was listening to a radio adaptation of Agatha Christie’s The Pale Horse, a crime story with darker witchcraft roots that centres around a former inn of that name. The old pub is in Much Deeping, Hampshire, ‘about fifteen miles or so from Bournemouth’. So, the Deepings are definitely more spread out than even we had imagined! One of the characters in ‘The Pale Horse’ is called Sybil Stamfordis, so had perhaps the famous author been studying a Lincolnshire map for inspiration? Of note is the fact that while this particular story from 1961 does not include any of Christie’s famous detectives such as Miss Marple or Hercule Poirot, that did not stop the plot of ‘The Pale Horse’ being borrowed for a Marple TV episode in 2010, piling fiction upon fiction. Do any readers know of any further fictional Deepings?
County Councillors, Rosemary TrollopeBellew and Barry Dobson serving the Deepings and surrounding area are present at the Deepings Library on the first Saturday of each month from 10.00am - noon if you have any issues that you would like to raise relating to County Council business.
