Auctioneer Jessica Wall’s new role as expert on Cash in the Attic

The new revival series of Cash in the Attic on Channel 5 began on 1st August, and Stamford Auction Rooms’ founder, auctioneer and valuer, Jessica Wall, has been recruited to be an expert on the show, featuring in a whopping nine episodes, and a tenth which features Stamford Auction Rooms premises itself as well as Jessica on the rostrum!

Jessica had been approached to join other antique related shows in previous years which she turned down, but this time she said yes, and explains that ‘Cash in the Attic is a show that is true to what I do every day; going into people’s houses to find items to sell to make them money, valuing and cataloguing those items, and then selling them at auction; it is the natural order of things. Therefore Cash in the Attic seemed like a perfect fit for me and I could not wait to get involved!’

Travelling across the country, from Cornwall to Barrow in Furness, Frinton on Sea to Leeds, Jessica has enjoyed meeting so many wonderful people in their homes, each with important stories to tell and exciting treasures to be uncovered. When asked what her favourite item was, she was quick to recall a painting she found in a downstairs toilet of one home which was ‘a beautiful French oil on canvas, which captured the blue and yellow tones of the Mediterranean summer’ which flew above estimate on auction day. Jessica explains that part of the joy in what she does is not just the value of the items she finds, it is the history and the connection to the owners, often sentimental, that brings an artefact to life, or the life it finds once sold to someone else.

It will become obvious to all that watch, that Chris Kamara, A.K.A. Kammy – the man, the myth, the legend – and Jessica have a special bond which brings an element of light-hearted fun with the contributors that makes the show one to watch! Claire Collinson-Jones, Executive Producer said, ‘There’s been warmth, heart and humour in Jessica’s shows.’
