Classical Makeover
There has been an estate at Wokefield since the first house was built in the 1560s for the wealthy Plowden family. Set in 250 acres of Berkshire countryside, its history is etched in the di erent architectural features throughout this beautiful building. Having spent most of the 20th century as a St Benedict’s Approved School, the Mansion House was Grade II listed in 1967 before starting to take guests in 1984 when it was converted to a hotel.
Following a £20 million refurbishment, De Vere Wokefield Estate has been transformed from top to toe with the Mansion House now boasting 87 luxury bedrooms, including 12 suites. The 1560 Restaurant & Bar has also been refurbished, benefiting from a sun-drenched terrace overlooking the lawns, a lounge area and a bar serving everything from classic cocktails to wine and draught beers to delicious soft drinks. devere.co.uk
