Susan and David Green have owned the property for over two decades, so Absolutely had a quick chat with the former to find out a little more about the unique home.

Q Can you tell us a little bit about the history of the property?

A It was built in 1829 by Lewis Rose, the property has a stone on the front showing this.

Q Where is it located and what is it close to?

A Close to the village of Binfield and it is located between Ascot, Windsor and Maidenhead. We are also close to Twyford train station into Paddington.

Q What kind of recent renovations have been implemented?

A A McEvoy and Rowley kitchen refurbishment three years ago is the latest renovation. The house over the 22 years we have lived here has had an oakroom/ conservatory extension, alongside a kitchen extension and lounge being knocked through for a triple aspect arrangement. When we originally moved in, we also built stables from the old cowshed that sat derelict – totalling up to four stables and two tack rooms, with a block of two additional stables in more recent years.

Q What is the first thing that catches your eye?

A The burnt headers front facade, the history and countryside location, and the big black electric gates.

Q How would you sum up the interior design?

A Traditional with a modern twist.

Q What kind of period features have been retained?

A Burnt headers fireplaces in four rooms, flagstone floor in the hallway, sash windows, large original fireplace with copper detailing in the hallway, and two original fireplaces in the second and third bedrooms.

Q Is the property good for entertaining?

A Yes, particularly with the large open plan kitchen/diner leading to the garden.

Q How many bedrooms are there?

A There are five double bedrooms. I’d describe them as classic in style, and there’s dual aspect on most overlooking countryside.

Q What else is there of note inside the home?

A The oak room, Aga, oak wood flooring, flagstone flooring that is all original, and the dog room with quarry tiles.

Q How would you describe the outdoor spaces?

A Formal well-stocked garden, private patio area, greenhouse, potting shed, three paddocks, six stables, ménage, two tack rooms (one with kitchen and toilet), private parking on the courtyard for 6/7 cars, plus parking at back for horse lorry and more cars.

Q Are there any surprises to be found when digging deeper around the property?

A The patio is made of some pieces of former gravestones – there is still the pathway through to the barn next door.

Q Do you have a favourite room, and if yes why?

A The oak room, as you can open all the doors and look out into the garden and hear the birds sing.

Q Who would this property suit?

A A young family who love the outdoors, anybody that loves livestock and country walks, and there are a few pubs that can be walked to in the area. We are also close to the Royal Berkshire polo club and polo is very prominent in this area. Horses / horse riding is also very prominent with multiple bridleways close by.
