COLOUR WAYS
Sue Birch from Kitchen and Bedroom Studios looks at how to make the most of the choices available for the kitchen and how to find your perfect colour scheme
Many homeowners are attracted to a bright and exciting colour scheme when researching their new kitchen, but then decide to opt for a safe neutral when making a final choice.
A soft neutral colour scheme can work well in a kitchen, but with so many options available, a second colour can be introduced as a subtle complement or a bold contrast.
We often work with two different colours, choosing a woodgrain or a metallic to add warmth in a modern kitchen. In a more traditional setting we may select two shades of blue or green, for a painted shaker style. For those with bolder design aspirations, a bright pink island can really make a statement.
If two colours prove too much, then keeping to one and using your appliances to add a burst of colour can work well. Manufacturers are offering a great selection of colours alongside the stainless steel or black that we have become used to. Alternatively, keep your appliances traditional and add your colour with your accessories such as blinds, splashbacks and lamps.
Grey, blue and green continue to be the most popular colours in our showroom. They are very adaptable and work well in modern, traditional and classic settings.
A dark rich blue or almost grey graphite can create a striking look for a kitchen. Clever lighting and the introduction of contrasting white or metallic accessories can avoid a dark design feeling claustrophobic. Alternatively, a seaside blue can create the feel of a coastal kitchen, whilst a pale blue can reflect more of a Scandi vibe.
Green can be a calming colour choice and ideal for the kitchen as we often associate it with nature and freshness. From bold and bright lime greens to more subtle sage greens, there is plenty of scope to be creative. Dark emerald green can work well with a painted shaker style, whereas a jade green can be more modern with a flat door, especially when teamed with some trendy silver mosaic tiles.
