URBAN CREATIVE POLE Cultural & Commercial Center Middle Eastern Technical University, Turkey/2019 ARCH402 / 13weeks project Instructors : Cana Bilsel, Eren Başak, Koray Pekeriçli, Duygu Simser, Merve Öztürk Digital and hand-crafted media The project focuses on the future CBD in Bayraklı district of the city İzmir within an urban context. The aim of the project is to develop an innovation center which will promote interaction and collaboration between the user/consumer and the organizers, operators. It responds to many issues regarding the site’s industrial history, urban character and the city’s future. The project has a complex program accomodating a library, an audotorium, a museum, offices, multipurpose studios and lecture rooms. While the general outlines of the project are designed upon the imprints of the old factory, one part of the factory is kept and reporposed as the museum in the complex. Mainly, the program is distributed into individual unites of blocks and connected through a circulation system crossing ad joining the units. The unit blocks are concrete frame structures with curtain wall facades. The circulation system which is in a bright red color is a steel structure which works as ramps, bridges, platforms and roofs or “folie” like structures on the middle axis of the site which serves as flexible structures for the use of public event and activities. THE MOUND, THE CITY & THE SEA: RETHINKING THE FUTURE CBD of BAYRAKLI/İZMİR Urban Design Middle Eastern Technical University, Turkey/2018 ARCH401 / 9weeks project Instructors : Cana Bilsel, Eren Başak, Koray Pekeriçli, Duygu Simser, Merve Öztürk Digital and hand-crafted media Group Project/Members : Zeynep Dila Demircan, Rabianur Çulha, Selin Çoban
The project focuses on the future CBD area of Bayraklı/İzmir with the aim to develop a sustainable urban plan. İzmir which is one of the largest cities in Turkey, has the economy and man power to thive to become an international port city. The design idea was to introduce a flexible urban plan which will develop over time, as well as will enhance the economic and research infrastructure of İzmir by engaging the relations between research, commerce and education/interaction. This will create a central business district which not only depends on commercial activities but also research and educational activities. The project suggests a metabolist urban system of structures capable to develop and grow over time. These structures works as nodes contain vertical circuaion, acces to under ground parking and vehicular circulation as well as provide the building it’s infrastructure. 100.YIL PLATFORM FOR ALL : INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY CENTER Community Center Middle Eastern Technical University, Turkey/2018 ARCH302 / 8weeks project Instructors : Mualla Erkılıç, Vacit İmamoğlu, Ömer Faruk Alp Digital and hand-crafted media 100.yıl district reflects deifferent values of the community by becoming a platform for all in means of sharing, experiencing and learning from oneanother. This can be achived with an inclusive and permeable environment. For the given site, it is situated on the main commercial street of 100.yıl district where residencial and commercial activities collide. That is why, movement and accesibility is one of the important issues to consider for a public centre. That is why pedestrian movement inside and outsite of the site was the major factor to determine the dinamic form of the project. These movements shape the main axes in the program which consist of a performance hall, library and shops. NAAB SPC: A.1, A.2, A.3, A.4, A.8, B.2

REVITALIZATION of BALAVCA RIVER Housing Complex Middle Eastern Technical University, 2017 ARCH 301 / 10 Week project Instructors: Digital and hand-crafted media The project is situated in Mylasa; an ancient city with broad fertile lands and rich historical background dating back to Carian Empire. The city is settled parallel to Balavca river which lies at the center of the city. The aim of the project is to design a housing complex which will redefine the river side, revitalize the city and bring out it’s character as a historical and agricultural site. The complex accomodates dorm units for students studiying and researching agriculture, as well as shops and restaurants for commercial purpose. The proposed design references Mylasa’s vernacular architectural patters as in the proportions of the dorm uits, the material qualities of the structures and the spacial qualities.
