Preface
In real life, it’s not that easy to find and meet people who have the same interests, concerns and tastes as you. Internet opens an entirely new chapter for dialogue. I can go to Youtube, find strangers who like the same music as me and communicate with them. I can state my opinion, share it instantly without a cost. It’s sincere, it’s raw, it’s independent, it’s not commissioned, it’s self-expression; a thought, direct from the source. The magic part is that it’s interactive. We can create a discourse, we can influence each other, we can feel understood, we can find a sense of community, we can belong. There is a feature of Youtube where it creates a continuous playlist with 50 videos you might be interested in based on what you are watching. So when you are listening to a song or an album, it creates a mix -mostly- with the same or similar artists and genre. I use this feature quite often and read the comments below. People’s experiences, memories, feelings, opinions under a roof; music. While I was going through a playlist starting from Ella Fitzgerald’s Cry Me a River, I’ve realised that most of the comments were connected in the theme of love. I’ve tried this with a playlist starting from Frankie Knuckles’ Your Love and this time, the theme was happiness and the desire to go back. I’ve went through ten playlists with ten -mostly- defined genres and collected characteristic comments. The end result was ten poems, comments used as verses. This book is a celebration of the expressive internet community, through music and Youtube comments. And a design research; how can the analog documentation of this digital expression be made?

Tartışma yaratabilir, birbirimizi etkileyebilir, anlaşıldığımızı hissedebilir, bir topluluk hissiyatı bulabilir, ait olabiliriz.
Ella Fitzgerald’ın Cry Me a River şarkısından başlayan bir çalma listesindeki şarkıların altındaki yorumları okurken fark ettim ki, çoğu yorum sevgi temasında birleşiyordu. Acaba diyerek Frankie Knuckles’ın Your Love şarkısından başlayan bir çalma listesinde gezindim ve tema yine oradaydı; mutluluk ve geriye dönme isteği. On farklı müzik türünde oluşturulmuş, on çalma listesi boyunca tüm yorumları okudum ve karakteristik yorumları topladım. Sonuç, yorumları dizeler olarak kullandığım on şiirdi. Bu kitap, dışavurumcu internet dünyasına, müzik ve Youtube yorumları üzerinden düzülmüş bir methiye. Ve bir tasarım araştırması; bu dijital dışavurumun analog dokümantasyonu nasıl yapılabilir?
