D1 Why Design?

For me, the process of creating not only a beautiful but functional and environmentally friendly space is the best and most fulfilling aspect of design.

Background

I was the 2nd born child in Miami, FL on July 20, 1997

My parents are from Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.

I have lived in Miami my entire life, but have traveled to DR, PR, and Cuba.

I mainly speak English, but at home and with family I speak Spanish.

After I graduated with an AA in Psychology, I realized that my real passion was Interior Design and began my journey in this amazing major.

I strongly believe in “everything happens for a reason” and my life by this quote.

Hobbies

Since middle school watching youtube has been my #1 hobby. I mainly watch makeup, fashion, vlogs, & interior design.

On my free time, I enjoy playing 8balll for hours.

I have done my own gel nails since middle school and usually do it on my free time.

Color & Style

I appreciate all colors, but prefer those that are light and airy, neutrals, and warm undertones when it comes to design. I would describe my style as minimal, casual, and luxe.

Description

Program: Jesuit chapel for Seattle University Client: Seattle University Size: 6,100 sq ft Built: 1997

About The Design Concept

Holl’s concept when designing this chapel was “Seven bottles of light in a stone box; the metaphor of light is shaped in different volumes emerging from the roof whose irregularities aim at different qualities of light: East facing, South facing, West and North facing, all gathered together for one united ceremony.” The principle worship area has a volume of east and west light. At night when the gatherings for mass in this university chapel take place, the light volumes are like beacons shining in all directions out across the campus. Depending on the time of day or season of year, the chapel may glow blue, yellow, red, green, orange, or purple. The light may be serving metaphorically to suggest wisdom, but it is also intended to define the interior space.

Color Palette The main colors used throughout the interior are quite neutral because the most crictial aspect is the overall concept of tinted windows. The use of colored windows will illuminate spaces as light comes in throughout the days and seasons. For example, the image on the left showcases a window that brings in tones of blue.

The overall color palette is neutral to enchnace a calm feeling appopriate for a

In Conclusion,

Steven Holl is an arcitect and colorist who established Steven Holl Arcihitects in 1977. Holl, is known for his intergation of light blending in design. For the Chapel of St. ignatius, Holl focused on the penetration of light shinig on colored windows to illumminate this chapel throughout the day. Colors like blue, yellow, red, green, orange, or purple will glow different spaces, as well as designate areas. Steven Holl Architects were quite successful with this project using the psychology of color to givie the users of the space an essence of spirituality.

Color + Perception

5 Key Points -Programming- the stage in design process where you begin the data collection for a partiuclar project. -Space- visually connects architectural elements, and create the properties of the mood or atmosphere desired. - If there is too much contrast between visual elements, the eye has a difficult time adapting to the changes. -The use of values in your coloe palette will add dimension to the space, create visual interest, and elicit posiitve emotions. -Color has a direct relationship to the physical temperature we perceive and experience in a room. -Color aand shape are characteristics of objects designed to attract and retain our attention. Color can be consider one of the most powerful elements for expressing personality, creating visual appeal, and generating interest in consumer products.

Kill Bill Vol. 1 M.5 Color + Environment

Scene 1 Plot

The beginning of the movie begIns setting the color palette for the rest of the movie. The hints of yellow and red are being introduced as the main colors of the film. These colors are all through out objects in the scenes and also used to wash the screen when a memory happens. Yellow represents the main character because later on in the film she wears her yellow suit and red represents the anger and blood that will be shed.

Scene 2

Character Development These images represent character development with the use of red and black for Gogo Yubari who is a killer’s personal bodyguard. The black and red symbolizes Gogo’s personality and purpose in the movie, which is that she is dark and is a bloody killer. It can also foreshadow her destiny, which is a dark and bloody death.

Scene 3 Climax

The climax of the film happens when the main character has the ultimate and most challenging test. The scene starts off in color where the yellow suit is the contrast between lots of black. Then the screen turns to black and white to represent darkness and death as she kills many fighters. Another transition occurs back to normal color, but is zoomed into her eyes representing a serious change and then cuts to a fully blue and black screen as she fights for her life.

Scene 4 Resolution

These last scene represents the ultimate resolution of the film where the main character will finally gets her revenge. The scene’s orange-yellow and red symbolize all the blood she has shed. The other side is black and dark navy representing her opponent‘s dark persona and ultimate depressing death.

Color + Health

5 Key Points -Balance refers to the relationship of different houes to one another when each is percieved tp be equal in perceived visual weight. -Balance is described by three types: symmetry, asymmetry, and radical balance. -Interiors, at a minimum, should attempt to contain a three-value scheme. This allows a space to maintain depth and visual interest. -Contrast is opposition in order to show or emphasize differences between two objects. -Color interaction involves the contrast of light and dark values. -To create balance within any space, pleasing relationships must be present.

Color + Balance

5 Key Points -Color selection may aid in supporting a person’s health and sense of well-being. -Certain colors we are exposed to my contribute to our mood, mental health, stress, anxiety, depression, which indicates that the qualities of space with design can influence positive or negative human behavior. -Color therapy, or chromotherapy is the practice of using colored light and color in the environment to cure specific illness and in general to bring about beneficial health effects. -Color can effect our brain waves, emotions, and biological systems. -The eye is an extension of the brain. The component of the eye send information such as color, shape, and movement via the optic nerve to the brain. -When you view a colored object every color is reflected but the color you se.
