PORTFOLIO 2020 Zhang Haoyun

The title of this portfolio is “RE, because at the beginning of each design, I re-observed the entire transaction and contradiction from my own perspective, and then responded and dealt with it. When I did my first design, I thought China had a lot of fake antique architecture (built with the form of antique buildings with concrete molds), but in fact this kind of architecture has no positive effect on the inheritance of traditional culture, and it even makes the audience misunderstand it. In my opinion, we need to fully explore the origin and development history of culture, and combine existing architectural technologies to build buildings with cultural connotation. The second design mainly involves design translation. There is narrative logic in movies, paintings and architecture. Then, I tried to translate these three narrative logics into each other, and expressed the visual effects of film production in architectural language, in which painting served as the intermediary of translation. In my third project, I chose to explore the architectural methods in nature by deconstructing the form of melting glaciers. I believe that nature always gives us unique inspiration. For the last project, as it was a renovation project, I aimed to find some design clues from the history of Lumicang. It makes sense to design through the atmosphere of historical life. In conclusion, I think the whole portfolio contains my relatively strong subjective thinking, just like holding a camera to find the subject in the lens. After the photo is postprocessed and printed, the effect of the photo may not be able to see the complete original directly, but the viewer will always find some clues about the original in the photo and try to give his own opinion about it. That’s why I hope to take such a wonderful "photo".

THE RONGBAOZHAI RESTORATION PROJECT Cultural space with protection and inheritance of Chinese traditional technology The revival of RONGBAOZHAI is the revival of traditional culture. At present, cultural sites in Beijing are gradually decreasing and replacing with more commercial sites. The lack of confidence and distrust in traditional culture may lead to this situation. How to make modern residents experience the inheritance of traditional culture better and how to rebuild people's confidence in traditional culture through architectural design is the main purpose of this design.

THE RASHOMON RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT Spa building with multiple mental perception The design explores the translation method between film, painting and architecture. The reversing and changing visual impact feelings in the film are translated into abstract paintings through a hierarchical analysis of the psychological scenes of different characters, and then the abstract paintings are translated into architecture. While the site chosen in Kyoto, Japan Shirahige Jinja coastal areas, initially in Japan's Shinto nature worship mainly belonging to animist polytheism, depending on a variety of things in nature as gods, so choose the design of water as a key element of the building in series to form water as a main clue spa building. The Torii of shrine is the symbol of the domain of God's entrance for the main entrance to distinguish God inhabits the domain of God and human habitation of the secular world. The main entrance of the building is chosen below Torii in water, and you need to reverse through the Torii to enter the building. The wrong way of entering may be echoed with the constantly reversing arguments in the film "Rashomon".

Three movie characters have three different representative colors. The red for the Ronin, the pink for the Woman, and the blue for the Samurai. The different desires of the characters led to different arguments so the part of the painting with the colors overlap and merge is the part of the different relationship between the characters. And the positions where the oil color blocks appear are the moments when the characters change their subjective emotion in the plot. The high and low undulations indicate the mood swing of the character in the plot. Lines represent the different sentiments that movie characters bring to the audience.

THE ICE CAVE REMOULD PROJECT Live house with changing visual perception The design is based on the gradual melting of Arctic glaciers, using the melting ice cave as a prototype, and trying to build a live house using Norwegian favorite music activities as a medium, in which people can enjoy the show and relieve the discomfort feeling caused by extreme weather. People may think about the dangers of glacial melting and the deterioration of the global environment.

THE LUMICANG GRANARY RENEW PROJECT Building renovation project that continues the historical life modeln Lumichang is a historical building that has existed since the Ming Dynasty, which was used to store food. But the function of a barn in a modern city is not needed, so I tried to find a new function that would fit the building -- a bookstore, and incorporated the granary culture into it by digging into its historical and cultural context, that means the bookstore will present a historic barn atmosphere.

THE CONSTRUCTION OF LUMICANG GRANARY The building is 42m long and 15.6m wide, with thick silo walls, about 1.5m at the bottom and 1m at the top. The construction of such a thick wall made of wall bricks will keep the indoor temperature relatively constant. These construction measures can not only prevent moisture, but also ensure ventilation, so that stored grain is not damaged for a long time.
