n association and support of the 2021 National Heart Month and National Wear Red Day, February 5, 2021, the SIS (Sisters in Sync) Ministry decided to show their support with a virtual celebration of dressing in red with pearls. Every year the women of Zion Hill Baptist Church have always supported this event and we are determined to not let the things of the world or a pandemic take away the Joy that God has given to us. During the virtual celebration one of the ladies stated that “When women support each other, incredible things happen”. We had an awesome and blessed day of sharing our photos with each other and giving support to one another. Our President, Sister Sandi Abbo, shows such vitality and passion in all that she does. She shows lots of enthusiasm and encouragement to everyone. She reminds us that our mission is to encourage and support each other daily. The year 2020 took us all by surprise but God brought us through so that we can make 2021 an amazing year of LOVE, HOPE, JOY and HAPPINESS. We can do that best by caring, supporting and loving one another and giving all our Praise and Honor to the LORD our GOD. As we continue to follow the wisdom of our Pastor as he follows what God has given to him, we will continue to uphold the theme of our church “Living to Love and Loving to Serve.” Pastor has chosen our theme for the year 2021 as “HOPE REVIVED”

Marching Towards Wellness
T
he month of March welcomes the first glimpse of Spring, daylight savings time, and March Madness for the avid college basketball fan. It brings us month long observances as we recognize Women’s History and share awareness about Nutrition and Colorectal Cancer. We are full of hope that March will see a steady decline in Covid-related illness as we remain vigilant with masking, social distancing, avoidance of large gatherings and consider vaccination. Let’s review a few helpful tips as we continue this journey of marching towards wellness. National Nutrition Month: The CDC estimates that most adults (80-90%) do not consume the recommended amount of vegetables each day. Over one third of US adults are obese, with obesity rates increasing to 45% in African Americans. Healthy nutrition can help to reduce the risk of chronic conditions, such as obesity, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Simple ways to incorporate nutritious eating habits include the following: n
n n

rink at least 64 ounces of waD ter daily while limiting sweetened beverages such as tea, sodas, and fruit juices. Consume more vegetables. Choose whole grains. | THE LIU
n

n
ractice moderation with sugars P such as cookies, cakes and other pastries. Avoid distractions while eating. Learn to read nutrition labels. Limit eating out and prepare planned meals at home. Growing herbs and vegetables in home gardens or house plants.
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics 2021 theme, ‘Personalize Your Plate’, recognizes there is no “one size fits all” approach to nutrition and stresses the importance of considering cultural and personal preferences when promoting nutritious meals. Reimagine traditional meals by using dried spices and herbs to add flavor instead of salt, use more whole grains such as wild rice, cook grains in vegetable broth or stock for flavor, and choose to bake, grill, steam or roast your food instead of frying. Colorectal Cancer Awareness: Colorectal cancer (CRC), commonly called colon cancer, is the third mostly commonly diagnosed cancer. The incidence of CRC is higher in African Americans than any other ethnic group. One in five CRC diagnosis occurs in individuals between the ages of 20 and 54. The American Cancer Society recommends screening for African Americans at average risk
to begin at age 45. Symptoms may include blood in stool or change in appearance of stool, unexplained weight loss, change in bathroom habits, persistent cramping, feeling bloated, fatigue and anemia. It is important to know that there may be no symptoms at all. Preparing for Daylight Savings Time: Believe it or not, adjusting our clocks even just one hour can disrupt our sleep pattern. Studies have shown that car accidents and heart attacks increase after the Spring time shift. A few days before the daylight saving time change, gradually adjust your sleep time to go to bed and wake up 10-15 minutes earlier. Commit to improved sleep hygiene by getting at least 7-9 hours of sleep per night (adults), developing a bedtime routine, finishing dinner a minimum of two hours before bedtime, limiting screen time in bed, and avoiding caffeine. Eating nutritious meals, increasing our awareness about colorectal cancer, improving our sleep hygiene and remaining steadfast with our COVID precautions are great ways to March Towards Wellness! n —LaJune E. Giving Time
I have a confession: prior to coming to Zion Hill, “giving time” was a time for panic. I almost never carry cash in my wallet; I never take a pen with me to church; and I need at least a day’s notice to locate my checkbook. The offering plate always caught me empty-handed. When I came to Zion Hill there were giving options for people like me. Instead of being a time for panic, now “giving time” can be what it is intended to be – a time of gratitude. Most normal people probably do not share my fear of offering plates. However, the past ten months of virtual services have eliminated them from all of our lives. The purpose of this article is to inform members about all of the opportunities Zion Hill offers to ensure that we can express our gratitude for God’s grace and mercy in a virtual space.
If none of these electronic options appeal to you, then you can always mail your tithe/offering to the church’s new P.O. box: Zion Hill Baptist Church P.O. Box 44643 Atlanta, GA 30336-3218 Attn: FINANCE
Electronic Bill Pay This option allows a member to use their own online or mobile banking service to send a check directly to Zion Hill. How does it work: You set up a payment to Zion Hill through your online banking account. Then you schedule when that payment occurs and how much that payment is. The bank then writes a check to Zion Hill from your bank account. The bank mails that check to Zion Hill. Most banks also give you the option of setting up the donation as a recurring payment, if that is your preference. What is Needed: In order to use this option, you must first have a banking account that can be accessed through a computer or mobile device. How do I set it up: The specific steps will depend on how your own bank handles things. However, here is a general set of steps that are likely to apply to your bank. 1. Log in to your existing banking account. 2. Select the “Bill pay” or “Pay a bill” option. 3. You will need to “Add payee” or Add a new bill recipient manually.
12
| THE LIU
4. The name for the payee is “Zion Hill Baptist Church”. 5. If it asks for an account number, then use your name or “Zion Hill” as the Account Number. 6. Input the church’s mailing address: [P.O. Box 44643, Atlanta GA 30336]. 7. Confirm that the information is correct and click the “finish” or “add payee” button. How do I make a payment: Again, the specific steps will depend on your own bank, but the process will generally look something like this: 1. Login to your existing bank account. 2. Select the “Bill pay” or “Pay bill” option. 3. This will lead to a screen that allows you to select the bill that you want to pay. This is where you select “Zion Hill Baptist Church” (or whatever you named the church when you set things up) from among your list of payees. 4. Enter the amount of your tithe/offering. 5. In the “Memo” section you can specify what the payment is for. This is what you would use to designate funds for the 10for10 rather than general tithes and offerings. 6. Select the date that you want the payment delivered by. 7. Confirm that everything is correct and then click on “make payment” or “schedule payment”. What does it Cost: Typically, banks do not charge customers any fees for using their “bill pay” features. There is also no cost to the church for receiving money. Do I need to learn something new: It depends. If you already pay bills in this way, then there is nothing to learn. You can just follow your bank’s procedures. If you are new to paying bills electronically or to online banking, then this will require you to learn how to access and use your bank’s website or mobile app. Who should use this: If you already pay bills electronically through your bank; if you do not want to provide your banking/credit card information to any apps; if you do not want yourself or the church to be charged transaction fees; if you want to schedule
your tithes/offerings in advance; if you like the idea of mailing a check but you don’t want to use your own envelopes and stamps; or if you want the flexibility of using a computer or a mobile device, then this is a great option for you. Does it work on mobile: Assuming that your bank has a mobile app (most banks do), yes it works on mobile.
EasyTithe EasyTithe is an app that is focused only on tithes/offerings. It allows members to give via the web, a mobile app, and through text messages. How does it work: EasyTithe’s interface is analogous to “checkout” when you shop online. You enter your payment information, click submit, and your credit/ debit card or bank account is charged. The church receives the money in its account within 2-3 business days. EasyTithe allows for recurring gifts and tracks your giving history. What is Needed: All you need is a computer or mobile device. EasyTithe allows you to create an account, but an account is not necessary in order to give. How do I set it up: It is recommended that you create an account if you plan on using easyTithe regularly. The setup process varies depending on your method of accessing easyTithe. Online Giving Setup You can register on the web: 1. Go to easytithe.com/zionhill . 2. Click “Sign In”. 3. Click “Register for an account”. 4. E nter your name, address, and either your email address or phone number. 5. Y ou will receive a verification email (if you entered your email) or a pin number. texted to you (if you entered your phone number). 6. O nce you enter that verification number, your registration is complete. Mobile App Setup EasyTithe has a mobile app. Search for “easytithe” in the app store. It has a picture of a church with a lowercase “e” on the front.
1. O pen the app and it will ask you to find your organization. Enter both “Zion Hill Baptist Church” and the zipcode “30331”. 2. You should get only one result. Confirm the address and select it. 3. That will bring up a login box. Click “Create Account”. 4. Enter your information, create a password, and create a login pin number. How do I make a payment: Using the Web or the App 1. Go to easytithe.com/zionhill or login to the app and click “Give Now”. 2. Select the fund you are giving towards (tithes/offering, special offering, 10 for 10, etc.). 3. Enter the amount of your tithe/offering. 4. If you want to give towards another fund (for example, if you are making both a tithe and 10 for 10 donation), then use the “Add donation” button to donate to another fund. This will allow you to combine the full donation into one transaction (and one transaction fee). 5. You have the option to give by credit/ debit card or via ACH from your bank account. 6. Enter your payment information. 7. Decide if you want to cover the processing fee. 8. Make sure everything is correct and press submit. Using Text to Give 1. Text the amount of your tithe/offering to 770-604-1450 2. You will receive a reply text with a link. 3. Click on the link and it will take you to the same web interface as above. What does it Cost: Later this month, EasyTithe fees will be slightly reduced to a 2.2% processing charge ($2.20 on a donation of $100) plus $0.30 on each debit/credit transaction. The fees are significantly lower on donations made via ACH. Generally, the church absorbs these transaction fees. Donors will always receive credit for their full donation. Easy tithe does provide the ability for the donor to increase their donation amount to cover the fee, but this is entirely optional. Do I need to learn something new: If you are familiar with online shopping, then this works the same way. If online transactions are new to you, then you will need to learn how to navigate the web page. Who should use this: If you like the idea of having a separate app for tithes/offering; if you do not mind the transaction fee or want an easy way to pay that fee; if you want to have an easily accessible history of your giving; if you think texting is cool; if
you want to make recurring gifts (the same offering each month for example); or if you like the flexibility of having different ways of giving – app, online, and texts, then this is a great option for you. Does it work on mobile: Yes, EasyTithe has its own app, the web app works well on mobile, and there is “text to give”.
PayPal This option allows for an electronic payment from your credit/debit card, or PayPal account, to the church. How does it work: By using the Paypal “Donate” link on the church website, you can use a credit/debit card to make a donation with or without a PayPal account. Additionally, using the PayPal website or mobile app, money can transferred from your credit/debit card or PayPal account to Zion Hill. It is an identical process as to when PayPal is used to buy something online. What is Needed: All you need is a credit or debit card. However, if you plan on regularly using this method, then it would be helpful to create a PayPal account. Follow these steps to sign-up for an account: 1. Go to paypal.com . 2. Click the “Sign Up” button. 3. Select “Personal Account” then click “Next”. 4. The next page gives you the option of downloading the Paypal mobile app and scanning the QR code. Most of us will just click “continue to the website”. 5. Enter your phone number. 6. A verification code will be texted to you. Enter that code on the next screen. 7. Enter your email address, first and last name, and create a password for your account. 8. Enter your address and agree to the terms of service to create the account. How do I set it up: If you already have a PayPal account, then there is no additional setup. How do I make a payment: Follow the steps below. 1. Login to your PayPal account. 2. Click “Send money” or “Send”. 3. Enter the church email address zhbc@ zionhill.org Do not search for “Zion Hill
or zhbc”. There are other churches and groups with these names. If you select them, your donation may be sent to the wrong church. In order to ensure that your donation is routed properly, you must use our church’s full email address, zhbc@zionhill.org. 4. E nter the amount of your tithe/offering, enter a message if you desire, then click “Next”. 5. Select your method of payment, then click “Next”. 6. R eview the information to make sure it is correct. If it is, then press “Send”. What does it Cost: PayPal charges the church a fee of 2.2% of the donation ($2.20 on a donation of $100) plus $0.30 for each transaction. However, donors will always receive credit for their full donation. If you’d like to cover the transaction fee cost, you can add it to your donation (for example, by giving $102.50 instead of $100). Do I need to learn something new: It depends. If you already have a PayPal account, then this is straightforward. If you do not have a PayPal account, then you will need to become familiar with PayPal or enter your payment information at each transaction. Who should use this: If you already have a PayPal account; if you do not mind the transaction fee; if you like the instantaneous nature of the transaction; if you do not need to schedule your tithes/offerings; or if you like the convenience of something that works on computers and on mobile devices, then this is a great option. Does it work on mobile: Yes, PayPal has its own mobile app. It is important to note that you can set up recurring donations with all three of these giving platforms – electronic bill pay, easyTithe, and PayPal. You simply select that option when you are making the payment. I will end with a short testimony about my own giving. This past year, 2020, marked the first time that I tithed for the full calendar year. I use EasyTithe, so it was encouraging to see the consistency of my giving history throughout the year. I did not experience any huge windfalls of cash as a result of tithing. Indeed, my salary was reduced by 5% as part of pandemic-related budget cuts. Despite that, I was able to find more peace of mind around money than I’ve ever had. The difference is that I started to give out of genuine gratitude for God’s grace, mercy, and provision. It sounds silly, but these electronic tools helped to deepen my faith. —Bro. Matthew Platt Trustee Ministry ZHBC@zionhill.org |

COMING SOON! Zion Hill, we are transitioning our church-wide database to ACS Technologies’ newest communication tool, Realm!
What is Realm? Realm is an online ministry tool designed for real time connection. As a part of our vibrant and active Zion Hill church family, you’ll love it. Realm allows you to manage your personal information and who is allowed to see it, manage your giving online, and keep in touch with members and your ministries. Everyone can be connected from anywhere at any time, right from your mobile devices. As we continue Living to Love and Loving to Serve virtually, check out what you will be able to do with Realm: n Update your personal information n Look up members in our member directory n Communicate with your ministry n Follow church announcements n View giving history and print giving statements n Keep track of tithes, commitments and offerings n Register for events Account activation coming soon. Watch Zion Hill church announcements to sign up! We want YOU to contribute! If your ministry has a virtual activity or news that you want mentioned, you can send an email to zhbc@zionhill.org. We welcome all ministry contributions: writing, story ideas, suggestions, digital photographs, artwork, letters, responses to our columns, reviews, etc. and look forward to hearing from you. All material is subject to approval and editing. ALL contributions must be submitted by the second Wednesday of each month. The LIU will be distributed once a month. If you do not see your contribution in the current issue, it will appear in upcoming issues.
