Spatial Characteristic Courtyard housing has been the basic type of buildings in Beijing for more than two millennia. There is a central coutyard with a close connection to nature, which is an important space prototype in traditional Chinese houses. It is normal for the four rooms positioned along the north-south and west-east axes.

Interior & Exterior

Various types of apartment units are interlocked together and each of the units has double-high living space inside and a courtyard at the entrance. The green courtyard space in each unit not only offers accessibility to nature, but also provides an opportunity for social activities with family members, neighbors, and friends. In addition, various units are suitable for different kinds of multifamilies. The living high with courtyard is trying to explore a prototype to recall the spirit of living close to nature. Housing and Amenities The new rural community can be built to suit different familial needs without ending up in a chaotic built environment. Each amenity structure consists of two parts. The first part is a series of scattered boxes that are indifferent to program. By avoiding a massive volume, it's able to maintain the permeability of the spatial experience at the ground floor.
