ME

Every fall is a chance for revolution. Every failure will prompt a better come back with a more resilient design. I’m not afraid of making mistakes, but I’m most afraid of missing any opportunity to get me further.

The infinite possibility and the limitless power of Architecture is the main reason I chose to walk the long winding path of learning Architecture. I’m an explorer and an innovator that always curious and seeking for breakthrough for any building typologies. Always aims to create revolutionary design that challenge the typical building design.

House is a living machine, it should not be perceived just on the paper superficially. The learning process of architecture should be in vivo and in vitro . Hence, an internship opportunity is what I need at the moment, to learn through experience in both tangible and intangible ways.

404 CAVE SOCIAL IN ISOLATION SCHOOL PROJECT

PROJECT STATEMENT

People dissapearing in the 404 Cave. An escape from reality. An unorthodox mixed-use building typology of mental healthcare center that fused with art center. Using Eco-Art therapy to step back and healed in a protected refuge without much intrusion of the strangers. The simplicity of the nature art, make us to engage closely with water, soil, plants, rocks etc. People found happiness in simplicity and liberty. Learn to embrace the imperfection in life from the everchanging nature. A ‘wabi sabi’ lifestyle that appreciate the beauty of nature that is imperfect, impermanent and imcomplete. A global research proofed that 70% of mental illness patient did not receive proper treatment because of fear, pride, doubt, judgement and felt ashamed. The deinstituitionalization of a psychiatric hospital, normalizing the stigma and autonomy is the solution to answer.

DESIGN STRATEGY

Obsure the buiding function from mental use space to a public art centre will helps the patients to open up their inner feelings. Everchanging nature art will pique the patient’s interest to come for the therapy.

SECTIONAL PERSPECTIVE
Q
“Why don’t people with mental issue seek help from the proper mental healthcare center?”
In overall, the site gives a very tense mood. Introducing a typical mental healthcare center into site will make the site hostile and cold. Informality, secureness and high proximity to nature are the main concept to go for to soften and tone down the formality of site. Patient kept their mental illness to themselves Lack of cultural value, arts and entertainment Long time and high cost of construction Repeating modern style and boxy building form Typical types of art were boring and not eco-friendly

PROJECT STATEMENT

Cottage industry: residential + small industry. Petaling Jaya Old Town is a town abandoned by the younger generation. The historical value of the town was covered up by a layer of shabby and unmaintained look. People perceived the town by its appearance without knowing its inner beauty. In PJ old town, people dumped away their furniture when they are broken and worn out, same like elderly who got abandoned by their children in the nursing home. Every man has his own story. Judging by look, the elderly are seen as old & powerless. Nevertheless, they are rich in their spirituality with their past experiences, talents & skill. Old furniture may seem defective & faulty, but they are made up of the rare quality materials that may have been through remarkable history even interesting stories embedded behind its imperfect appear ance. Antique should be given second chance likewise for the elderly. They are not worthless but their values were obscured and covered up by their appearance. Hence, the proposed antique revival industry will turn PJ Old town into a new artsy, vintage and hipster attraction.

PROJECT STATEMENT

The interior design of the Pinnacle Sri Petaling condominium unit is the amalgamation of the ‘Muji’ Style with Art-Deco inspired style. The main materials are woods to be matched with earthy tone paint. Some circular elements of lamps and mirror are to balance out the rigidity of the 4 walls. The main challenges of the design was the location of door in the living area leaving an akward space which is neither enough for a sofa nor a TV wall. A hidden door was introduced as solution to be blended seamlessly with the TV wall. A wooden platform was included to allow for comfortable floor seating and aslo function as the underneath hidden storage.

A GAP FOR A BETTER FUTURE

World War 1, World War 2, and now Covid-19. They slaughtered human mercilessly, but gently and softly this time. It parted human away from their teachers, friends, colleagues and family temporarily or just permanently without a prior notice. An invisible “Gap” created between every human physically. Nevertheless, we still tried hard to stay connected with others, with merely our heart and soul. Covid-19 reversed the theme of human life, from tangible to intangible. We walked closer into our own spiritual world. I finally stopped my hectic life and asked myself countless questions.

What makes me happy? Where would I go first when Covid-19 leaves? How this pandemic has changed the architectural world? What should I do to improve myself and to obtain higher achievement? As if confining in my bedroom and my house as the site boundary, the site context and forces were wiped out, I am marching at the same spot everyday doing the same routines. This pattern could have been happened if there is no Internet in our life. Human heavily relied on Internet during this pandemic, every works and activities were carried out online. Covid-19 may form a “Gap” that pulled us away by distance but the “Gap” still brought us closer by our hearts and souls.

Perhaps this is a better way of developing, adapting and learning using a different method in a world that runs in a new pattern. The Covid-19 was destined to link human history to the next stage of greater civilization. A gap that made us evolved to adapt to the new world and new environment.
