Urban analysis project type group work people involved 13 project length 3 weeks This project is to study a specific area of Dundee, then by ‘analysis – synthesis – conclusion’ to get a deeper understanding of the design process during the project and an awareness of how to analyse a particular urban district in a methodical method. And finally to discover several potential areas that could be used for the following design project-Demarco Archive, which will run through the whole semester year.
Demarco Archive project type individual project length whole semester year Demarco Archive project is to design a comprehensive building which mainly consisted of archive, galleries and artists’ flats. The primary purpose of it is to provide an exhibition space of archive for public visiting, research and learning, and a working and living space for Richard Demarco and visited artists. Its site is not specified and needed to be decided by individuals from the Dundee Roseangle Area.
My initial reaction of the site is the altitude difference between Perth Road and Roseangle. Follow the slope, the original buildings’ roofs become low e r a nd low e r one by one , a nd these roofs ha ve forme d a te rra c e . So my idea comes from this terrace, which could make Demarco Archive have more relationships with the l a n d s c a p e a n d b u i l d i n g s n e a r b y. T h e aim of it is to carry on the heritage of the Roseangle site, following the existing landscape and creating a friendly line between the sky and the building, a line that divides nature a nd urba n.

Concept model
This is my concept model which is to show the geometrical relationships among the five blocks of Demarco Archive. The size of each block is based on the buildings nearby and b y l o g i c a l o rg a n i z a t i o n , t h e s e b l o c k s have consisted the building's shape. By regular reducing the scale of the blocks, the terrace roof line that follow s the s lope on the e le va tion has joined the residential buildings on two sides of the site as a whole, and it also has brought the wonderful Dundee R ive r Ta y vie w for the building.

BTM project-City project type group work people involved 9 project length 4 days This project is to investigate the relationship between building forms, site and surroundings. Each group has nine people, and each student needs to provide three solutions comply with the brief requirements on one of nine site units of each group. Then by discussion, research, analysis, testing, photograph to choose the most reasonable grouping.
BTM project-Space project type group work people involved 3 project length 4 days This project is asking us to make a gallery space within a 9m cube. And the final result is to provide a 1:20 model, details drawings, environment drawings and light testing. In my group, we focus on the space and natural light, by testing lots of ideas and models and finally we designed a box which contains an independent vault inside to generate a simple, symmetrical, bright, order space, providing people a feeling of balance, peaceful, unforgettable.
Classroom project type individual length 3 weeks The classroom project is to design a studying unit which consists of two primary classrooms, cloakrooms and toilets, the aim of it is to get a basis understanding of classroom design and prepare for the next school project. My idea is using many ‘box rooms’ to create the classroom space, and by symmetrical allocation, to express the idea of architectural geometry.

School project type individual length 6 weeks The school project is based on the former project-classroom, by intergrating the developed classrooms with office area, dining area and gym area to finish the whole school design. The site of it is located in Roseangle area of Dundee which faces the River Tay and surrounded by the railway and a traffic road.

Structure glulam beam glulam column purlin studs joists This is the structure model of the classrooms which also shows some detail parts of the wall and roof. It is timber structure, based on the 'Post and Beam' principle, the glulam beams and columns form the main structure, while the studs wall forms the exterior and interior.
Outdoor classroom project type group work people involved 14 project length 4 weeks This project is aiming to design an outdoor space for a local primary school. The name Willow Dome is coming from the concept idea-organic. The site of it is located in an open grassy space which surrounded by many trees outside that school. Because this is a real project that fundraised by the primary school, finally, our group has won the competition among five design groups in our year, and it has already been started to build since July of 2012.
Street project type individual length 5 weeks The brief of this project is to design five living units by five groups on five different sites. Each unit is consisted of several individual houses that according to the group students’ number. My site is 4.5m by 20m, and there are solid walls on two sides. By discussion, five parameters need to be set up by each group. In my group, the parameters are: garages need to be lined up on the same direction; having the parking within the plot; the height of the street facade is 12 meters; garden inside each plot; at least two bedrooms is needed.
