CONCLUSION & FANS'S VOICE

Posted by H wkfan296 (174 posts) - 5 years, 2 months ago - Show Bio But I think the other reason people like more realistic superheroes is because we can relate to them..... These are problems many people in reallife deal with. It's nice to see heroes who fight villains that attack the world deal with issues that we ourselves deal with.

.......my point is that people like superheroes who have problems they can understand.

According to the feedbacks, I was suggested t o f i n d a s t r o n g f e m a l e t o e d i t m y s t o r y. Based on my works that I haven done, I have found there are a number of strong female in the comic books but most of them have a s p e c i a l s u p e r p owe r, s u c h a s , s h a p e s h i f t , flying and talented at comminicate with g o d s , o r c a n r e a d o t h e r s ' m i n d . H o w e v e r, when I browsed the comic forum, lots of comic fans put forward they would like to read some real stor y about real strong women, which might make these story closer to their ever yday life, and also It

Most of heroines in the comics have a special skill like shifting a body shape, flying in the sky, or have a amazing appearance, which might cause audience have a less echo with their stor y, beacause we are hard to approach their life or do the same thing as the them. Next, I will give you some evidents why we need a more realistic heroine in a comic.

PANEL SKETCH

RESEARCH FOR A STORY

THE NEW FEMALE COMICS (MS. MARVEL) I n comparison with the new mar vel comics , the original captain mar vel was created like a goddess, an American beauty who has less female emotion and always be wise, calm, sex y but strong . But in the new MS. MAR VEL the main character has mutiple emotions and be sensitive, she also does something on impulse, after that, she nearly freaks out. More impor tant, she cannot release a laser by hands and grasp var ious power ful sk ills, instead, she even can be hur t by a gun, and her garment was designed by herself. This new character is a imper fec t woman without charming appearance, who is closer to a realistic life, which could make audience have more resonation with her.

RESEARCH FEEDBACK

would be easier for fans to take this strong female as a role models to learn from them. I will analyse some realistic comics aimed at women, hopefully, it would help me to have a real story about a real strong female.

INTERMEDIA CRITIC & FEEDBACK In the critic, I was suggested to edit a modern stor y, which might make readers to approach comic story easier. B esides, a concept of this story should be delivered clearly. Thus, I went to the Manga exibition to research how professional ar tist invent a story. After that, I invented a story again, but most of peers who read my stor y suggested me to create a story based on my real experience, which might make readers more accessible.

PIN-UP THE STORY IDEA

According to my feedbacks, I decided to take my stor y for archetype although I did lots of test on editing other stories and character design such as PEAL. I s t a r te d w i t h s o m e co n t r a d i t i o n i n t h e wo n d e r wo m a n , w h i c h i n s p i re d m e to do some research on the strong female in the comics. During this period, I found there are lots of comic fans are eager to read some real stor y about wo m e n w i t h o u t a ny m a g i c . The story that I wanted to share is about solutions of anti-bullying. I am always pride of my solution against bullying effectively in the school. Besides, bullying is a big problem in the school, what I want to do is to encourage people like me, to find their own solutions instead of keeping silent in bullying.

Reflection I am joyful some feedback that I received in the final critic, which pushed me to think about improving interaction in the comic to make people engage in the comic. Therefore, I handmade a book let where people can fill their own anti-bullying solutions, then share with others. Hopefully, these help to improve comic's interaction and help people to get some a n t i - b u l l y i n g t i p s . Project 2 "A twilight dream"

DESIGNING PLOTS & INTIAL SKETCH In old age, there must be some regret before closing one's eyes. Although he is afraid of time, it is only because of this that he can pluck up his courage. This is a brief story about Grandpa who decided to fulfill his dream in a limited time to become a ballerina in a difficult time.

CONTROVERSY ABOUT SENIOR BALLET DANCING

MALE BALLET DANCER TODAY

In addition to the voice coming from the ballet dancers, there are lots of other voice from their families and friends. I collected their voice from forums and interviews.

93 percent of boys involved in ballet reported “teasing and name calling,” and 68 percent experienced “verbal or physical harassment.” Eleven percent said they were victims of physical harm at the hands of people who targeted them because they are boys who study dance, reported by Chloe Angyal (2017). Especially, some senior citizens who participated in the ballet were laughed at, which might make fewer old men dance.

Pr ince G eorge can' t wait to begin ballet classes, and Lara Spencer is regretting ever questioning it. The "Good Morning America" host is apologizing after poking fun at the 6-year-old taking dance classes as a par t of his school's curriculum. Viewers were quick to turn their nose at her tone, with male dancers condemning her stance. "So You Think You Can Dance" choreographer Travis S cott said, "I found your comments to be ver y upsetting." InsideEdition.com's Leigh Scheps has more.

INTERVIEW ABOUT ELDERLY MALE DANCER

MALE

FEMALE 20 : 1

From a young age, far more girls than boys are interested in ballet, so much so that girls are estimated to outnumber boys 20-to-1 in ballet classes, stated by Kim Elsesser (2019). According to my research, I found that compared to the female ballet dancers, the number of male ballet dancers get lower , some of which due to the public discrimination in the dancing industr y. More i m p o r t a n t l y, i n t h e s e d a n c e r s , t h e y o u n g d a n c e r more than elderly, which might generate a incorrect conclusion : the ballet can not be suitable for the old. However, some elderly people still prove that ballet is positive for them.

An elderly wants to pick up a childhood dream-to be a dancer after his retired and his children have become grow-ups and pursue their own careers. Thus, the old man desires to complete his dream in the rest time.

Never Too Old to Dance: Benefits of Ballet for Seniors

"Ballet can also help to stretch muscles, straighten bones, and fight dementia, due to the fact that it requires focus to memorize and execute many of the ballet combinations and steps for dances."

"Ballet is great for older bodies as it isn’t a high-impact exercise like running, so there is less chance for injury to older joints."

"Fun of getting out and mixing with other seniors."

Childhood memory: being forced to give up the dream when he was young. He secretly looking at the dance room when his young age, which makes him to consider to be a dancer. In the family meeting, he attempts to put forward this dream, which meets with strong opposition from his families. Conversely, a young dancer willing to help him in the dancing studio: the old man was stunned by the dancer’s ballet. And try to mock dancers’ movements. But he got a injury, which made him depressed.

FINAL CONCEPT To sum up, there are many benefits the people could have when they do a bellet, which could help to lower the risk of dementia, heart disease, more importantly, it also could help to regain the joy and confidence when they retired, and make new friends. Therefore, the everyone could be ballet dancer. But some of people would be depressed since they donnot get some supports from families and friends. Therefore, I want to create an inspirational figure to encourage most of people to persue their dreams, also tell them to be more supportive to others who want to dance.

On day, there are a bunch of disabled dancers exercise in the studio, which cheer him up and realized the true ballet dancing. Everyone could be a ballet dancer! Finally, he become a ballet dancer after the hardships.

Project 4"Freeze your legs" (A brief animation)

RESEARCH ON MANSPREADING Travelling time

“LATCH” means location, alphabet, time, category, Hierarchy, all of which helped me to organize the data, and visualized them. Thus, we were encouraged to find and analyse data from the London tubes. I was very joyful with that.

Overcrowding

The hapiness of the London commuters

Household& parttime jobs& study

Eye contact When I paid more attention on commuters, I found the most of commuters lack of smile, and tend to lean against wall. Thus, I was curious about the commuters' self- feeling, and I try to find the underlying causes of their disappearing smile. So I design a questionnaire to ask them. These question from 'The Guardian', which helps to judge people's hapiness.

In the first stage of this module, I enjoyed using “LATCH” to collect some data, which made me learn a new visualised presentation method to deal with data. Thus, l applied “LATCH” it in my primary research, which I did in the London underground to get the inspiration in the tube. However, there were a superficial research about the size of stations and the numbers of the commuters in the peak time of the stations, but I still ignored to dig these causes behind a phenomenon, which should be more important in the primary research in my visual storytelling.

Manspreading Refusing to move Lean on the pole with butt Cliping and Primping Backpack against others

Bad courtesy

In order to clarify factors affecting commuters' anxiety, I collected some commuters' voices. The bad courtesy is a big reason why communters get uncomfortable in the travelling.

This is why I decided to pay much attention to the manspreading in a carriage rather than other places, The manspreading in the tube seems more likely to make trouble. Meanwhile, the spreading out legs in the tube is a starter of this anti-behaviours.

THE MEANING OF MANSPREADING In the animal kingdom, many animal use their open, explosive to attract mates, like peacocks, they fan their feathers to peahens(Phypost, 2017). But there is a different explanation from penguin, In addition to being essential for swimming, flippers are also used for communication among penguins. These birds will pat or tap each other's flippers as part of their courtship behavior, and flipper wave can be used to show aggression, agitation, excitement or dominance ( Melissa , 2018).

RESEARCH CONCLUSION & FINAL CONCEPT According to the Amy cuddy, who is a social psychologist , she said spread out is kind of method to show power and accordingly, when you fe e l c o n f i d e n t , w e t e n d t o spread out. Another thing is even we lack of nerve, we want to pretend we are the power ful man, we tend to do a manspread.

A l s o, s h e m e n t i o n e d t h a t i t i s associated with occupation,the people who often engage in high participation work more likely to do a spread- out posture.

EXPERIMENT Objective: To understand what kind of images can generate coldest illusion.

In the paintings, the manspreading can be seen as a kind of way to show outstanding, powerful and dignity, in sculptures, the manspreading is a good behaviour of the greats. With the R enaissance, people pursued their own dreams, ideas, emotions, real life, so the manspreading is a signal of awakening of self-awareness, and it represented the liberty in that times. Nowdays, the manspreading shows mans'power, asser tive and social dominance. I n a addition, it can represent confident, steady, reliable and special male charm. In other hand, feminist think that is a disrespectable behaviours and sexism, such a offensive posture in the public areas, In spain, the manspreading can be seen as a crime like sexual harassment. but in Japan, it is just a kind of subconscious bad behaviours, cannot damage society. Besides, a social psychologist think manspreading is a per formance of people show confidence and it can increase confidence too. In semiotics, manspreading is a feature, help us tick a gender blank.

Combining with my finding: in these seperate visual contents, there is a common: people tend to spread out in a cozy, safety, warm and familiar enviroments. Thus, there is a possible that a cold environment will help people reduce spreading out spontaneously.

Dating back to the Renaissance — and it wasn' t even just for the common commuter. Scholars, musicians and even kings have been known to showing off his unnecessarily wide gait, argued by Romano (2015). which seem made them more outstanding, powerful and dignity. Manspreading is the typical posture in that era.

OBSVERATIONAL SKETCH

Tutor suggested to find a communication method in my design, because this work was so abstrac t in the beginning, which easily make people confused. I t is possible to redesign a carriage with these pattern and hue to convey my concept. I realised that more message should to be delivered though my design rather than much attention on the pattern and colour testing in the beginning. Thus, I started to concentrate on more communication with my audience. And I tried to design a cold space to affect people’s sense.

A coach with cold huetone, it might give people a sense of freezing ambience, where people stay for a while might huddle. According to the previous research, I found that people tend to pay more attention on the video than posters, which inspired me to create my animation.
