01. FLOATING SHELTER
TEAM WORK TEAM MENBER-HAOYANG ZHANG & HENGYANG JING The background set in Boston . In the next 50 years, sealevel rising could have disastrous effects on Boston because of climate change. The water is expected to rise 12 feet by 2030, 25 feet by 2050 and 40 feet by 2070, according to data released by the Boston government. Therefore, in this context, we hope to design a strategy that can safely and reasonably buy disaster. We took advantage of Boston's seaside character and the dynamic nature of the water. We've installed a lot of floating islands in buildings that generate electricity from the waves and rising water levels. At the same time, the floating island also becomes the connection between the Spaces, which activates the interest of the building. We use water as a catalyst to activate the space and function of the building. Hope to tell people when disaster come, we can be positive and optimistic in the face rather than escape.

PATTERN FORMATION By analyzing the geographical information of east Boston, we draw the patterns of wind direction and wave direction respectively. We got some interesting patterns by superimposing them. Because we wanted to use the tides to generate electricity, we designed a landscape that was responsive to the wind and waves, based on a prototype pattern. In addition, the first part of the landscape design is obtained by setting the water level in 2030,2050 and 2070 as the design background.

02 WEAVING NEST
INDIVIDUAL WORK This is a studio for researching materials. The purpose is to design the structural system by exploring the material limit.I choose the material is wood veneer.Under the general condition, veneer material is soft and is easy to break. But I find that bending veneer will make it strong. Therefore, I give the veneer by using the method of compiling a base. The protruding part is then bent to form the supporting structure.I call it the system. The final units are combined to create the final space.

03 AI City TEAM WORK TEAM MENBERS-HAOYANG ZHANG; SHU ZHANG; MARGARET FRANK The background for future studio is Syracuse 50 years from now.Our theme is ai-dominated cities. We envision AI as a major urban builder in 50 years. Therefore, we need to abandon the idea of human architects as much as possible.Use data, use programs to design cities. In the process, we get a lot of results that are impossible to see in a normal human city. But we think it makes sense, because AI must not design cities like us.Efficiency is the most important thing for them.We use board games to write stories about the future. Then through the story to restore the scene.Future studio is different from the usual course on future architecture and city design, because the professor wants us to think with new technologies. The final results are also displayed through VR and video. In the process, we abandoned traditional modeling software to think about design. We use UNITY3D and VR to design the space and render the scene. 32

The central control tower is controlled by grasshopper program, because we want to simulate the whole building controlled by AI and data.We don't want the logic of the human architect in the design. So when we put in the number of visitors, the number of groups, the number of hours worked.Grasshopper programs automatically generate buildings based on the data.Including the height of the building, how many rooms, the size of each room and so on. 36

user 5 As a result, we found that with the support of VR technology, users can explore the virtual world on an urban scale in a space of only 10FT X 10FT. We measure playability by recording the movements of VR users. It also adds to the experience of smell and touch. This makes us very surprised by the ability of new media tools in the field of architectural representation.

04 IMAGE CHIMERA INDIVIDUAL WORK Pictures play an important role in people's lives.Architects use pictures to express ideas.Express all the abstract and concrete inspirations. But conversely, what can pictures bring to architectural design? This studio mainly requires us to project perspective photos onto the geometry. The results are obtained through various 2D and 3D operations.
42
43
Primary Idea My reference image shows interior space of The Lello Bookstore. It features a wide variety of building components and visual impact from a variety of colors and materials. Therefore,my idea is focusing on using components on 2d image to generate reactions in 3D space through perspective and projection, and create additional spatial effects. 3D objects are used as the carrier to project the geometric relationship and spatial characteristics of the elements in the picture. I used the linear relationship of stairs and handrails in the original picture to organize the geometric protrusion of the cliff-like triangular cone. Concaveconvex geometrical feature creates rich visual dislocations in projected images, such as overlapping mountain handrails and cascading vertical Spaces
44
45
The images of the new-gothic interior contrasts with the streetscape of Los Angeles. But the geometrical characteristic of building is the form of modern architecture. When people stand at a certain distance from the building, the projection of one-point perspective picture can restore the original picture. However, when people moving, the concave and convex architectural forms allow people to obtain completely different visual experience in different positions. I transformed the handrail on image into 3d form that echoes the facade of theatre on the west side of the building. Moreover, the glass curtain wall behind the pillars enables the external image projection to have a visual connection with the internal image projection, and at the same time can reflect the facade of theatre and street view. I conducted the architectural design of the project through the spatial relationship between the shape of the object and the projection of the picture.First of all, the convex protrusions have a subordinate relationship with the huge space in the middle. Moreover, there is a vertical and horizontal spatial relationship between them. So I used the space in the middle as the main pool, and the protrusions outside the building as the satellite pools. They are connected by a vertical ring space. As a result, the circinate space acquires spatial links to the large pool and satellite pool, as well as sight links. At the same time, the exterior and interior of the building are organically connected. As for the program part, the triangular pyramid on the ground floor makes the space on the ground floor open and free. The triangularpyramid columnmakes the projection of the bottom image overlapping and changeable. Iused the stair projected on the building se as the entrance to the large pool.People reach the second floor by stairs (ramps) .The second floor integrates ticket sales, security checks and changing clothes. Users can access the large pool di rect ly from the second floor. Users can use stairs and elevators to reach higher floors. Above the second floor i s the circular functional streamline composed of auditorium and satellitepool.

05 JAKARTA TERRACE HUTS TEAM WORK TEAM MEMBER-HAOYANG ZHANG & INDRA PRASASTO
Jakarta is the most geologically sunken city in the world. At this rate, soon the whole city will be underwater. What we need to do is to do something about it.First we found out that the reason why Jakarta is sinking is because there is so much underground water. The hole left by the pumping of groundwater makes the geological layer unable to bear the heavy ground load.So we want to address the problem at its source. We want to compensate for groundwater. The best way is to soften the city.We have made it possible for rain and water to seep into the ground quickly by widening rivers and increasing soil c o v e r .To a l l e v i a t e t h e geological subsidence caused by insufficient water above the ground. 48

06 BIOMIMETIC MIXTURE INDIVIDUAL WORK In the context of rapid urbanization.Urban living conditions are becoming increasingly hostile.Technology's mediation of the environment often brings new problems. If we learn from the creatures of nature. It may be possible to create new, human-friendly urban ecosystems in cities. 52
