Nendo, 2009 Description Upholstered or steel table/footstools in two sizes. Upholstered version is polyurethane foam on wood frame; base is shock-absorbant plastic. Upholstery is black or white technical fabric or seletion of Uniforms colors, all with thermoformed pattern. Steel version is available in a range of matt powdercoat colors; on plastic glides.
With their varying heights and diameters and digitallyproduced patterns evoking the natural irregularities of tree bark, the pieces in this furniture series recall tree stumps. The metal pieces in the collection are a visual play on the ‘wireframes’ of 3D software, while the volumes of the soft, smooth fabric-covered stools project a strong sense of surface. By combining these oppositional elements – line and surface, soft and solid – the Japanese design collective Nendo “hoped to generate objects that exist in an ambiguous space between nature and digital expression.”
