Project 1:International Busking Festival In Southbank Individual work

2020.3-2020.6

Busking is one of the most active activities in the community. They know how to interact with the audience to invigorate the atmosphere, but there are few dedicated venues for buskers. If there is a dedicated performance venue, it may have a different effect.

1

INSPIRATION

southbank is a place with a lot of culture and history, southbank is located in the city center, close to the Thames and close to many famous attractions. This is also the art center of London, with many art galleries nearby. And there are many landmarks representing London, such as the most famous London Eye. Standing by the lake, you can see the city of London opposite and feel the financial center of London, and the joyous atmosphere of southbank can make people feel enjoyment and relaxation

I have listed a few places where people gather more often, most of them are tourist attractions and art galleries. There are many small entrances in southbank, people can enter southbank from different locations to visit

Southbank has a lot of people coming and going. Because of its excellent location, there are many scenic spots around and close to the Thames, so there will be many tourists. When all the crowds stay in an area, the road will be slightly crowded. So why not have a performance venue specially made for buskers?

How street performers choose performance areas

According to the venues required by the performers and the geographical situation of Riverside, combined with the tourists' needs for scenery and performance, I initially designed a space that separates the stage from the audience. The slope design of the steps allows children or the disabled to walk up easily. But in the end I gave up this idea, 1 because the safety and practicability are not high, and the other is the low combination with space.

1.The least amount of noise from bars or other musicians 2. High traffic 3. Large enough area to perform Performance venue for busking

4. Unoccupied by other performers Tourist Audience

Why I choose Riverside Grass

Buskers

Two reasons why performers divide areas 1.Have enough performance space 2.Can protect the safety of the audience during some highly dangerous performances

No bars or other musicians nearby Large people density The area reaches 2385 square meters There are no other performers around the same time

Riverside Grass has hosted many events due to its excellent geographical location, which proves that this area is a good place for events.

The shorter stairs are more suitable for people to step on, but the higher stairs are more suitable for people to sit

INSPIRATION

EXPERIMENT

Some street performers often have dangerous performances to attract the audience's attention. The hollow design allows performers to show their performances. At the entrance, I designed a height of 3.5 meters so that the audience on the street can fully see the performance of the performer, and using the bow as the entrance can more clearly emphasize the stage awareness.

Audience Tourist Street Performers

Queen's Walk / Riverside Walkway Riverside Grass

Regarding the evolution of the auditorium shape, I did some experiments to try which one can accommodate more audiences and better connect with the performance venue. Finally, I used a way of gradually extending from the inside to the outside. , So that the audience is perfectly integrated into it.

Audience Street Performers

Combining the first and second ideas, a new shape is created in the form of collage, so that the auditorium can better integrate into the space and receive more visitors. Then I simulated the space after putting it into the riverside grass.

A circular space with high on both sides and low on the middle. The two sides of the circle are the audience area, and the middle is the performance area. The entrance is a large arc, so that visitors coming and going will also see the performance. But there is also a problem with the high traffic of Southbank and too few seats in the auditorium.

I researched the space that people need when sitting, and according to the data of three different widths of adults, I concluded that they are 55 cm, 65 cm and 75 cm. In order to have a good range as a whole and accommodate the most people, I set the length of the stairs to 7.5m so that it can accommodate at least 60-84 people.

SECURITY RISKS: THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE BACKREST

NAVIGATION

PLAN AND SECTIONS

Because the height of the edge is 90 cm, it is dangerous for adults or children. People can easily fall off when they are not careful, so I designed a safe backrest and took the shape of a strips. At the beginning, I drew a few sketches using the railing as a safety backrest, but I felt that the overall feeling was very uncoordinated, so I also used the shape of the Mobius strips and superimposed it on it.

According to the three different height chairs I researched, I got three data, namely 40cm, 50cm and 60cm. In order to adapt to different heights, I designed the backrest into a slowly upward shape, slowly changing from a 40cm backrest to a 60cm backrest. In order to correspond to the height of the auditorium, I also designed the height of the backrest to 30cm. .

I marked the size of the space and how people operate in it, and what is the effect of putting the space in the site, and feel the space more intuitively

EXPLOSIVE VIEW

MATERIAL RESEARCH Climate change caused by a lot of pollution makes us have to start paying attention to environmental issues. The carbon emissions of buildings are as high as 49%, so I want to use some sustainable materials to reduce the carbon emissions of buildings. ‘In terms of architecture, every process of construction requires vast amounts of energy consumption, construction, material use, maintenance and demolition and although the goal for the industry is to achieve 100% recycling cost for netzero carbon emissions, the construction industry currently accounts for 49% of total carbon emissions.’

Characteristics of sustainable materials

Safety Backrest According to different heights, a backrest is designed to extend from 40cm to 60cm, which is convenient for people to use and echoes the shape of the performance venue.

Auditorium

1.This material will not cause harm to human health, except for a small number of people who are allergic.

2.This material has low impact on the environment during its life cycle

3.This material is low cost and durable

4.This material consumes few resources and is suitable for high-efficiency products or buildings.

5.This material will not have an uncomfortable taste and appearance

6.This material is renewable, reusable, and durable for up to 100 years

The auditorium that slowly transitions inwards can watch the performance in all directions. The height is set to 30cm per floor, which is a relatively suitable height whether people sit or go upstairs. The auditorium is only 90cm high, and people can also stand outside the auditorium to watch the performance.

Enclosed There are entrances and exits at both ends of the performance venue. The height of the entrance is 3.5m, which allows passersby to better observe the performance. The height of the exit is 2m, and the height of a normal family door is used. The hollowed-out center is for some difficult performances, with enough space will not be limited by the height.

Straw Bales

Project 2: Depression vent space Individual work

2019.10-2020.3

More and more people suffer from depression due to long-lasting depression caused by pressure in life or society, and depression can make people lack self-confidence, escape from the crowd, and cannot feel happy. How to improve one's mental condition before suffering from depression? Selfdigestion or venting?

8

WHY do young people suffer from depression ? According to research conducted by the World Health Organization, there are more than 340 million people suffering from depression in the world, and China is the country with the most depression, with 90 million people. Beijing is the city with the most depression in China.

Beijing

I interviewed 3 people with transient depression. They are the father of a child who is about to enter elementary school, a fresh graduate who is looking for a job, and the other is a mother who has just divorced. Family reasons, the interests of parents or the heavy financial burden of the family may cause depression. Childhood trauma can also cause depression.

Wor k pr essur e, facing scolding and criticism from leaders, quarreling with colleagues or squeezing out, workload and income are not proportional, etc., or unemployment pressure can all cause depression Learning pressure. Parents' expectations of their children are too high, which leads to children's psychological pressure, and no one tells them. Long-term holding in the heart will cause depression, or the pressure of exams. Chinese-style education will bring children very much psychological pressure.

These can be called "characteristic pressures" in China. China’s per capita income is still less than the world average, but housing prices and commodity prices are very high.

People often have short-term depression, which is not a pathological depression. How to improve and prevent such emotions from turning into depression?

Reasonable catharsis Take a deep breath

Eliminate stressors My son is about to go to elementary school. My wife and I are going to let him go to an international school, but the tuition fee of the international school is too expensive, equivalent to my half-year salary. Now I have to think about how to maintain my standard of living. I can still afford the tuition.

Jianguo workers

Slow motion stress relief Diet decompression

Massage decompression

Reasonable catharsis After graduation, finding a job became the biggest problem. I came to Beijing to struggle with my dreams, but the reality is not as good as I imagined. There are so many talents in Beijing, everyone is vying for the same job, and the wages of many jobs do not match the actual workload. They are exhausted every day and may not even be able to afford the rent.

Lili Graduates

Cuihua housewife

Beijing is the capital of China and the most stressed city in China. Beijing’s prices are high, housing prices are high, and it is also a gathering place for talents, which is very competitive. In China, young people between the ages of 20 and 30 are the most stressed and the most prone to depression. This comes from the social environment, work pressure, personal achievements, economic income, interpersonal relationships, social support, family, housing, children and life.

WAYS to relieve stress

For me, family is the most important thing. So after I got married, I devoted myself to the family, taking care of the children, cleaning, and handling all kinds of things at home. I thought I would live like this for the rest of my life, but until one day my husband filed for divorce. After that, I had no financial resources, and the court also sentenced my child to my husband. I became nothing in an instant.

Medical psychologists believe that crying can relieve stress. Psychologists have measured blood pressure for some adults. As a result, 87% of people with normal blood pressure said they occasionally cried, while most of those with high blood pressure said they never shed tears. Letting emotions come out is far more beneficial than burying them deeply in your heart. Find a trusted friend or family member, talk to them about your pressure, and let them know your situation so that you can reduce the pressure from them. At the same time, when you say it, you will put less pressure on yourself, which can be described as killing two birds with one stone.

People often have short-term depression, which is not a pathological depression. Based on the two points of confession and venting, I thought of the microphones in the park when I was young. Two children stand on both sides, talk to each other and share secrets. I think that adults can also express some emotions through the microphone in this way, and when someone on the other end of the microphone receives it, they can also respond to him, comfort him, and mediate him.

ANALYSIS

I use color psychology to make people feel relieved from the visual senses.I extracted three colors that are good for depression. They are red, orange and yellow.

Promotes: Energy, Strength, Motivation, C o n f i d e n c e , W i l l - p o w e r, C o u r a g e , Initiative, Focussing on attention to detail G o o d f o r : D e p r e s s i o n , N e g a t i v i t y, Shyness (aviod in anger), Irrirability.

Promotes: Stimulates body and mind, Self-esteern, Optimism, Inner strength, Creativity, Self-expression, Happiness, Opens mind to new ideas and perspectives, Revitalising. Good for: Depression, Negativity, Trauma, Stress, Bereavement and loss.

Promotes: Uplifting, Cleansing, Selfrespect, Self-confidence, Self-control, Ability to rationlise and reason, Contentment, Mentally stimulating. Good for: Depression, Despair, Fatigue, Negativity, Sensitivity to criticism, Lack of confidence (avoid in insomnia, hyperactivity)

As a confession, cold pipes will make people feel more unhappy, and soft objects will make people feel comfortable and safe, and can also relieve depression. At the beginning, I hoped to use some hard materials to create a soft feeling, so I did some material experiments.

EXPERIMENT I used an adjustable machine tool cooling tube to create the mobility of the tube, which can be changed at will with height and position, and I sewed a rainproof cloth on the bean bag as a protection when the weather is unstable.

Bean bags are a very suitable material. I think the most suitable material is the bean bag. First of all, its shape will change with the change of the human body, and a comfortable bean bag will bring people a sense of security and wrapping, to create a feeling similar to hugging.

ANALYSIS Three colors of red, orange and yellow are used as the main colors of the space. The microphones penetrate the ground through different shapes, and people can sit on it to form a resting area.

The bottom of the sound tube will change colors, the teller will not know where the sound is going, and the listener will also not know the direction of the sound. It feels like that the teller will not know who is on the other side, or if anyone is on the other side, but he can confide all his feelings, maybe someone is listening to him.

The general location can be modified according to the living habits and social conditions of different countries, such as residential areas, commercial areas, leisure areas, etc., and the shape can be changed at will according to the terrain. Beijing, Tokyo and Seoul are the three most stressful cities in Asia, while Japan has more and more suicides due to depression, and London is the city where I live now. Place the space in different environments, such as shopping areas, parks, riversides, and financial districts. Produce different effects. And with different terrains also brings different shapes

Project 3: Mars colony in 2040 Individual work

2020.9-2020.11

Due to climate warming, the melting of glaciers caused by rising sea levels and slow air circulation will affect life on the planet. Decades ago, scientists and astronomers put forward suggestions for planetary migration, but Mars is undoubtedly the best solution. Mars migration has become the norm in 2040, so what does Mars space look like?

GARDEN CITY

The star-shaped concentric city, the centre of the city is a cathedral, and three nine-sided circular roads intersect the main military radiation streets. The city was originally a place for self-sufficient merchants, artisans and farmers to live. But no one wants to move in.

INSPIRATION

The city is a radioactive city arranged in a concentric pattern. Many garden cities are satellite cities. The garden cities are connected by roads and railways. It is an urban plan that encloses human communities in fields and gardens and balances the proportions of residential, industrial, and agricultural areas.

1911

NEW DELHI Inspired by the garden city, the city is also a satellite-shaped radial city. The connection between large and small satellite cities is based on the consideration of the urban interface and circulation, and the street view is transparent. The Imperial Delhi Railway that surrounds the Capitol Building directly connects to places such as the All India War Memorial and Kingsway which are drawn up with hexagonal shapes.

1962

E.P.C.O.T. The city center is a cosmopolitan city, followed by high-density houses, green park areas, and lastly low-density houses. It is also designed for radioactive cities so that people can easily identify different communities and master the street network.

1865 The shape of the igloo is semicircular for several reasons. The first is because the dome will fold up the top, saving materials. Among different shapes with the same area, the circle is the shape with the shortest side length. The second reason is that the Arctic region is more windy and snowy, and the circular building can better resist the wind and snow, and the heat insulation is relatively higher.

Resist wind and snow, high heat preservation Community of igloos (Illustration from Charles Francis Hall's Arctic Researches and Life Among the Esquimaux)

Save material

According to the above research, in my design, I have taken into account the convenience that radioactive cities can bring to space, and that the more central the city is, the more public it is, and so on to tWhe outside is the agricultural industry and residential area.

Storyboard: A Day of the Dog on Mars

10:00

11:30

Every time Carl came out of the hospital, he would sit with his good friend Bruno for a while and talk about the doctor's orders and the things they used to be on earth. Usually I will go to my friend Ray to play at this time.

14:30 I’m tired of playing, I’m going home to sleep for a while, Carl’s bed is really comfortable

10:30

Carl will get up at 10:00 every morning and read some news

Carl will make breakfast for the two of us. His specialty is the 3D printed steak, because he doesn't need to make it himself.

12:00

13:00

Ray and May live together. They are really inseparable. May often makes toys and delicious food for Ray. Sometimes I can eat when I come to play with Ray.

Ray and May went to meet friends, and I also came to play with my friends in the square. I finally saw Vivi. I didn't know what it was doing a few days ago, and I haven't seen it. It's so beautiful today.

17:00

18:30

After waking up, everyone went to the lounge to have dinner together. This is where people like to gather. Although the space is small, it is very warm. I like it too, because there are a lot of food here.

After returning home, the neighbor's grandma came to talk to Carl, and they were talking about the earth again. What is the earth like? Carl always talks to himself about how good the earth is at night. Listen to his description that the earth should be a beautiful place.

11:00 Carl was born on Earth, and he is getting older, so he often checks his body to see if life on Mars has any effect on him.

13:30

Then we went to the farm, where we would often pick some ripe fruits to eat.

21:30 It's getting late, we have to go to bed too. In my sleep, I vaguely remembered that Carl took me to climb the mountain. It turned out that this is nature, and it is a landscape that I can't feel on Mars. I wish I could also go and see the beauty of the earth.

Individual work With the deterioration of the environment, more and more animals are on the verge of extinction and more and more waste has appeared. But most of the reasons for this phenomenon are caused by humans. If humans exchange with animals, or if food becomes the main element of human habitation, the harm suffered by animals is also reflected in humans, and humans will lose their homes if they waste food. Can people realize it? The plague and SARS are all things that happened decades ago, but they are very harmful to all mankind. I want people to pay attention to it again. My photographic works imitate the artist Kyle Thompson. I want to make the difference The colored balloons represent the plague virus, which has spread to different countries. At the same time, I used an acrylic board to burn out a shape similar to a map and superimposed the photo into a suspended device.

In this project, I participated in the drawing and modeling phases, and made further improvements according to the customer's needs to present the final effect. This is the first project I participated in in Architectural Design and Research Institute of Tsinghua University Co., Ltd. Although the project was not successfully built due to the client's personal reasons, I improved a lot of skills as a designer in this project, such as drawing and modeling.

The third project I participated in at the Architectural Design and Research Institute of Tsinghua University Co., Ltd. In this project, I mainly participated in the design in the early stage and the master plan in the later stage. Of course, the idea of this project has changed a bit after I left, but this project has gradually made me gain some understanding and interest in landscape design.
