This project is located in the center of Chansha, where used to be a community for staff of Hunan Theater and there are street dance studios around as well. Based on plenty of researches, this project focues on two kinds of people, Chinese Opera performers and street dancers. As for those street dancers, they are seeking for both material and spiritual root to adapt to this city, although they are followed by numerous young people. For another, Chinese Opera staff working at Hunan Theatre need audience and successors and the original buildings become to old to satisfy the daily life. Therefore, there are reasons to believe that they can make up for each others' need, if they get a chance to live together. To satisfy their communication and perform need, this project choose a form architeture with a lot of platforms where idea exchange can happen. Besides, each group of buildings are equipped with a square for their daily basis. In order to make the community identical, some public spaces such as parks and theater are added to the community, since they can be open to the public around for 'square dance'. Then, Highline is introduce to the community to connect more facilities nearby making life here more convenient.

RULE OF POLYOMINO A polyomino is a plane geometric figure formed by joining one or more equal squares edge to edge. It is a polyform whose cells are squares. It may be regarded as a finite subset of the regular square tiling. Polyominoes have been used in popular puzzles since at least 1907, and the enumeration of pentominoes is dated to antiquity. Many results with the pieces of 1 to 6 squares were first published in Fairy Chess Review between the years 1937 to 1957, under the name of "dissection problems." VARIATION OF POLYOMINO DOMINO

There are lots of variations in polymino. Those variations includes adding the number of moniminos, using 3D polyminos and changing the square into different shapes. This project follows the rule of polyomino both in plan and buildings, and acustom those shapes to the function of this site.

The first purpose of this residence is to connect two type of performing art, because Chinese Opera needs new followers and street dance needs a culture root to adapt to the public. Second, this new residence helps to refine the living standard of both Chinese Opera performers and street dancers don't need to spend a lot of time on commute. Every eight solutions form a single building and every three single buildings together with an open sapce forms a block. These three buidlings will be connected by corriders to form a circle. People can go to the open space easily through the corriders and the corriders can provide the open space with shadow when sun shines as well. Along the corrider circulation, there are three different public space in each building, they aim for different functions including communication space for two different type of performing art. The whole circulation is not on a flat plane but a 3-dimension one, where the youth and the old can both excercise a lot and have fun walking through the stairs. To add to interest of the open spce, some independent walls with windows follow the formation rule of building are insert into the space to form an ambiguous space. Owing to the space divided by walls, some facilities can be settled. Eight different solutions listed serve for eight different dance or opera families separately which have been classified before. Taking the space they need into consideration, vertical space belongs to the Chinese Opera family in order to insulate sound, while horizontal space belongs to the dancer family because it can be used to pratice. Ranging from neophyte to master, the area of space is also different, considering their family composition. 5

The main picture on this page is the bird's eye view from the south west to the site. According to this bird's eye view, how the buildings form a block and then how blocks form a group can be easily seen. Each group has a main function such as park, square, retailers or theater as stated before, and the central function is the theater. Following the group texture set some main and subordinate roads for car driving. To separate the walking and driving system, a corrider is set up for walking and cycling a 3-storey level. Five views around show the impression drawing for different nodes along the highline system, and the white circle and line exhibits the specific position of each nodes. The first one shows how residence buildings are connected to the highline. And the second picture shows the relation between the theater and highline. Third, it shows the grey space formed by the highline, with people exercising beneath. Besides, the forth view refers to the stairs for people walking from the highline to the suqare. Last picture is about the shopping function on the highline in the east of the site, with retailers along the sides, people can enjoy the spare time with whole family. 6

The first impression view shows the interior of residence. The large arch is used as the window making bedroom a good place Seen from the connetion of buildings, numerous people are spending time in the park. This project is located on the roof of New York Stock Exchange, at the cross of Wall Street and Broad Street. The main function of is an NFT art gallery. As for the gallery, there are two parts, human gallery and NFT machine area, and there is a contrast between them. The lower part are more open, so it contains gallery, open space and offece. The upper part are more solid, and it holds more machines. In NFT gallery, people rely more on virtual space instead of real rooms, thus we want to remove the walls to make it a continuous, free and open space for human. To strengthen this sence of free, we use fluid as our facade language with curve glass and curve stone. And the space also follows the fluid, as the linear gallery circulation goes in and out the facade, with out being aware of it.

PARKING BUILDING

This project is located in Hunan University. The site orinally has a building for chemistry laboratory, but it is not appropriate for new equipments and the added pipes disturb the facade. Besides, the surrounding buildings are the historic heritage presevation buildings and some open space. Thus the university plans to remove the building. Based several research, this place lacks parking lot for tourists, teachers and residents around, so my project focus on parking building. However, since this building connects the university, tourist spot and residence, I plan to add some other functions such as exhibition and public activity to stimulate the communicaiton. In addition, located near 2 libraries, this place is a good place to make up for the shortage of study rooms as well. To combine these funcitons together, attaching a spacial surface to its facade is a good solution. And the streamline in the spcial surface will be colorful and vivid. To adapt the building to the site, this project also abstract the 'arch' from buildings around to complete the facade.

This picture shows the roof garden in human's view. As the extension of the public space, roof garden attracts a lot of people to join here. The space limited by 'arch' form takes the responsibility of knot of pavement and the green area for vegetables. Besides, he scenic plaform grow from the central part of the building, letting people to view the whole roof garden, and even the university area.

This picture shows the interior of bathrrom. Seen from the bath, the irregular corner in the building can be used for some supplementary functions. The sink use corner of 30°, and the mirror follows it as well to correspond the sequential "arch" concept. In the mirror the man's and women's room are also adapts to the 2 rounded corner.

This picture shows the traffic intersect for three function, exhibition, discussion and rest. In this ambiguous space, árch shows its priority in handling with the multi-functional place. From this perspective, people can see a series of sequential scenes, which is a really good experience in this building. With long corridor, behaviors happen in every corner all the time, to adapt to the character of this site.

This picture shows the relationship between the parking lot and the exhibition place. The 'arch' window between them is a good place to exhibits the bamboo carving, which is a special kind of art work persued by ancient Chinese literati, who usually carve some good sentences on the bamboo. When watching this kind of works, people in both places can be aware of the existence of each other. 18

This project is located near the Hunan University in Changsha, Hunan, where the possession of land is not clear. After several decades of transformation, this place becomes a city village, with population under high density. It is filled with all kinds of people such as retailers, landlords, students, workers and so on. Since more people crowd into this place, illegal constructions happen all the time, making it hard to walk through and forming some abandoned trash corners. Also, temporary stay as a launch adapting into this big city decreases the communication among people here. Besides, some people living here receive less payment urging them to find some extra work. In this circumstances, our project want to search for an approach to solve the problem of the physical space and providing the site with new possiblity to change the social problems. Out of this purpose, we choose city farm as the main idea to bring people back to the life of living in rural place. Under this main strategy, we divid the site into 5 parts to cater to different functions, and several pluggable units are set aiming at city farm.

This project is located in the suburban of Beijing, where some tourist sights settle. After city planning including the boundary of ecological consevation area, this place doesn’t fit for heavy industry anymore. Since there are plenty of universities and schools nearby, it is convinced that this abandoned coal factory has a potential to be renovated into an amusement park which exhibits the history of coal mine and serves retired workers living here as well. To the north and west of this site seats residence of original workers for this factory, thus the project will consist of a food market in the west and a commercial street for both visitors and those workers. The south of the site aims to place coal, which is suitable for children's park with large open place and the heigh difference making the roof an proppriate place for skating. In the east of park is the entrance building including canteen and service center originated from the arch roof of remain building. In the center of this park, most old buildings are kept, especially the corridor for coal delievery, which will be used as game building for visitors to explore the process of coal mine.

Exhibition Design

Lego House

This is a completed exhibition design, and the theme comes from a book, The Beginning of the World, in the Middle of the Night. The hall is in a small scale, 11 × 8 meters, and is located in a shopping mall. And there was a play on the opening night. So the main idea is to making it a showcase. Since the scene of play is in a bed room, a bedroom plan is attach the background of the showcase, and the actor and the actress seems to lie on the bed, when standing. Also, the color echos the midnight.

This is a team work with Menghan Zhang and Qingxin Yang. It is a retail shop of Lego. The main idea is to overlap lego bricks to have a plan the space. The space division method can be walls, corridors and level height. As for each room, there is a different color to show a different theme. The pictures shows the entrance space, display hall and rest area perspecctively.
