PART 1 representation

I wanted to showcase the hairy texture of a bear, so I used a linotype process. Using carving tools and a block of matted linoleum, I first sketched out my bear on tracing paper. Then I transferred the image onto the block, carved out the hairs of the bear, leaving some parts open in order to create shadows on the dark parts of the bear. The stamp was set in the linotype machine in the letterpress room, and my bear print was finished.
Although I liked the idea of using a linotype print as a logo, this process takes a lot of planning and refining. I now know how the process works and I’ll be able to use it for future use. This being said, I ended up using tracing paper to go back over my original drawing with an ink pen, and I liked the look of this bear better. It eventually became my final logo, branding my bakery as rustic and vintage.
