Sky Arts Channel Ident | University project Brief: Create a promotional Ident for the educational channel, Sky Arts. The Ident should extend the reach of the channel (often perceived as boring or uncool) to a younger demographic (i.e. 15-25 year olds). * * * My animation shows a bird walking along the ground that is hit by paint drops falling from the sky. The bird flies up to see where it is coming from and finds the artist, Frida Kahlo, painting a cloud. The bird asks Kahlo, “What are you doing?”, to which she replies, “Sky Arts”.

The Little Mermaid Book | University project Brief: Design an artist’s book. Choose an artist / creator / writer and create a graphic treatment for the book, showing both a visual and intellectual interpretation of the subject matter. * * * I have illustrated Hans Christian Anderson’s story, The Little Mermaid, condensing the text so that it fits within my pages and so that it is still clear in its depiction of the story’s main events. Anderson’s tale revolves around characters belonging to royal families of both the land and sea. With this in mind, I created a book themed on the idea of playing cards. The final product appears as a concertina, with the elaborate character cards protruding, as though fanned out from the deck of cards.

ar out in the ocean, where the water is as blue as the prettiest cornflower, and as clear as crystal, it is very, very deep.

“...But at every step you take it will feel as if you were treading upon sharp knives. You will never return through the water to your sisters, or to your father’s palace again...”

Andreas, Zoe Book | D&AD project Brief: Produce an illustrated book about yourself or someone else (but only if you think you’re far too uninteresting as a subject). * * * The story is about myself: my dream and my reality. It is written using each letter of the alphabet as a prompt to each stage of the narration. The idea stemmed from the fact that my initials are Z, A.

Bloody Mary... Bloody Bitch! Animated Zine and Book | Self directed project Bloody Mary is a sadistic and humorous story, aimed at the child in every adult. The project began as an animated zine and later developed in to a printed book. Synopsis: Bloody Mary is an evil witch who curses the town of Zoundsville, sucking the blood of children in order to sustain her youth. Will the town ever rid of this curse or will Bloody Mary torment them forever?

Bloody Mary is a macabre fantasy fiction story, based on a folklore myth, whereby a witch is said to appear in a mirror when her name is called three times. With this genre and content in mind, I created an interactive ‘world of mirrors’ introduction, to enhance the notion of being drawn in to an alternative realm. Each mirror reveals a hint to it’s content when hovered over, and when clicked on, takes you through to the separate stages of the story.

A dark space creates an air of mystery and intrigue. Click the switch to turn on the light and enter the room.

An animated fly circles the light bulb - its movement providing the room with a sense of life.

Click on the spider’s web to be taken back to the title page.

The first mirror leads to ‘The Nightmare’ A nightmare featuring Bloody Mary.

The second mirror leads to ‘Mary’ - An insight in to her life as a child.

The third mirror leads to the main story, beginning with a ‘WANTED’ poster as an introduction to the witch’s crime.

This is Maggis. Maggis is both mentally and physically fragile. Unfortunately, she lives in an institution of the insane and eats only paper. She is allowed to visit the institutions gardens but she chooses not to because she is frightened of getting blown away. Maggis chooses to be mute. She likes cats and mice, and she likes it when cats eat mice. She often wonders along the halls at night smiling and has been known to watch walls. She may look friendly, but it is best not to touch her. She may bite.

Yiayia sieves through rice before she washes and cooks it. She is looking for bad grains. She keeps the unchecked morsels to one side and the good grains to the other. Bad grains are thrown out. Sometimes there are never bad grains but it is better to check than be sorry. Lord only knows what a bad grain may do to the evening’s dish!

Secrets Secrets Animated short by Christopher Abreu and Cody Stokes|My role: Graphic Artist My task on this project began with producing promotional drawings and graphics for various items. I was later requested to draw the animation’s interior scenes, with complete creative freedom. Secrets Secrets tells the story of a small town where sins are not confessed to the local priest, they are kept with a far more trusting source – the neighbourhood witch. With their wrongdoings safely bottled up and shelved, the townspeople can live in peace, knowing that their secrets will never be told. But when a very persistent salesman comes to town, he gives away a little more than a few good deals.

Website www.zoeandreas.co.uk The style of my website reflects the style of my work – illustrative and fun. The purpose of my Home and Menu pages is to attract the viewer through visually enticing illustration, allowing them to feel as though they were entering the world of my imagination, rather than simply an online portfolio. I did not want it to feel a chore to look through, and therefore, created rollover buttons to eliminate the tedious process of backward and forward clicking between images. Some of my projects are interactive and I wanted to retain that element within my website, allowing the viewer to fully enjoy the work in its intended form. Animated projects can also be viewed in their entirety.

Website: Christopher Beales Web Design | University project The task for this University project was to tackle the web design brief, set by creative design agency, Bunch. Overview of the brief: Christopher Beales is a costume designer, tailor and dressmaker, in need of a website to display his creations. He likes tones of white, grey and black as the colour palate and likes the idea of a site with a black background. To open, he would like his name / initials to be ‘stitched’ on to the page as an animation. He has expressed a liking for circles and geometric patterns.

Christopher Beales’ initials are animated with a ‘stitched’ effect.

Glowing circles show the viewer where to click.

Glowing image shows the viewer where to click.

When hovering over the type in this Future Projects section, a preview image appears in the circular shape for the selected project, enticing the viewer to read on and click the link for more information.

Buttons linking to all areas of the website are at the bottom of each page for easy access.

Rollover thumbnails, such as the circular ones shown here, are used throughout the website, allowing quick and easy access to viewing images.
