Fabric District is located near the city centre of Liverpool. However, the area is usually forgotten from the public between the 'Knowledge Quarter' and Islington neighbourhood area. The most severe urban issue was that most of the architecture heritaged from the industrial period were out of use which led to the inactiveness of the whole district.

Therefore, the vision of Fabric District is to create a safe, active, inclusive and sustainable place where people could pay visits for. Two representative streets in the core of the study area – Fabric street of Stafford Street and Art street of Kempston Street would be principally created. This may bring higher activeness of the area which involve various groups of people, such as residents at the north, students living in the area as well as the visitors. This strategy could both bring more visitors in the area and improve the daily activity and supply for the residents. Moreover, sustainability would be another concern while the aims are to reduce transport emission pollution and increase greenery coverage in this area. Overall, Fabric District is expected to be play an new role of art and retail centre in the city and coherent connection to other parts of Liverpool.

04-1 Mesters of Food A Sustainable Food-Culture Co-operation Action

Location: Sheffield, UK Postgraduate, 2020.11-2021.1 Group Work Instructor: Emre Akbil Our global food system is directly related to the environmental and social crisis. Sheffield is one of the most unequal cities in the UK, with a virtual division between the more affluent neighbourhoods of the south-west and the more ethnically diverse and deprived areas of the north-east. The industrial past of the city is related to this pattern of spatial segregation that also responds to a long history of migration in the city that dates back to the post-war years. At the same time, Sheffield has a long history of urban agriculture as a resistance practice since the industrial revolution that has persisted in the city fabric through public and private allotments.

Highfield, located in the south-west of Sheffield, inhabitated the most famous food street and international citizens. The project has analysed the current local food network to further bring out a new sustainable urban food system by combining food culture and urban agriculture in the community.

Portland Works is not just a historical building; it is also a thriving cooperative of craftsmen, artists and small manufacturing. While these “makers” may cover a variety of products, they all share the same essential characteristic. They use their unique skills and experience to produce something that is hand made with pride. This kind of artisanal art and manufacturing feeds the local economy, enriches the cultural heritage of Sheffield and is thriving at Portland Works.
