01 INTRODUCTION Architecturing the Artisan Life pattern within the selected site. The project evolves around two major premises. The Narrative for this project, being Street Artisans, who would be both living and working in one building envelope and the selfselected site at the corner of Bourke st and Robertson st within the suburb of Carrington NSW. The project is developed much with experimenting within number of areas, such as micro-housing and street level market in which number of challenges was tackled. For instance, the collaborative scheme of living and working for the Artisan, forced the project to discover the layers of privacy in many dimensions. In addition, the reality of public market adjacent to the private micro-living spaces of the Artisans brought the need for further investigation and experimentation.

02 NARRATIVE STREET ARTISAN Street art is visual art created in public locations, usually unsanctioned artwork executed outside of the context of traditional art venues. The term gained popularity during the graffiti art boom of the early 1980s and continues to be applied to subsequent incarnations.

OPEN AIR GALLERY With an aim to revitalize and transform the warehouse district of Carrington, by act of ‘placemaking’, an idea of Open Air Gallery is proposed. The large stock of warehouse buildings and on going trend of shipping containers near Newcastle port precinct, may well serve as the canvas for the talented artisan residence of the proposed micro-housing development. At the corner of Bourke Street and Robertson Street, within the large green field, the goal is to create a center where people could gravitate to and explore about local street art. Also, local Artisan of Newcastle will be inspired by this active style of art where they can meet their fellow artists too. Shipping
