YOUR ADVENTURE STARTS NOW
We’re eager for you to join us!
JOIN THE CIRCLE. The Platypus Circle is an essential fundraising arm of the Zoological Society of Milwaukee (the Society). It’s composed of individuals, corporations and foundations who share in our passion for supporting the Milwaukee County Zoo (the Zoo), conserving endangered animal species, and teaching the importance of preserving wildlife and its natural environment. Through annual donations, we’re able to offer programs ranging from summer camps for disadvantaged youth to bonobo-preservation missions in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The support of Platypus Circle members also helps maintain zoo exhibits and sustain our ongoing animal conservation efforts. For over 30 years, the platypus has been synonymous with the Society. However the Zoo has never exhibited a platypus, the duck-billed, egg-laying mammal from Australia, because of its restricted climate and conditions for care. It’s considered one of the world’s most unusual animals and its unique qualities are why a group of dedicated Board members selected the platypus to symbolize an extraordinary group of supporters. Today, by branching out into areas of education and conservation, a Platypus Circle membership is an ideal way to support the Zoo and receive certain privileges and benefits.
Be extraordinary, like the platypus.
YOUR MEMBERSHIP CAN MAKE A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE. Annually, the Society provides actual learning experiences: • Nearly 1.3 million guests are engaged through one-of-a-kind exhibits and programs designed to inspire and educate. • More than 300,000 people enjoy educational tours, workshops, camps, classes and outreach programs. • Over 150,000 school children and teachers participate in our education conservation programs. • A residency program for graduate veterinarians at the Animal Health Center. All school programs are designed to meet state and local standards for science education curricula relating to animals and ecology. We also support the largest zoo summer camp program in the nation. Your donation and support will aid the Society with these important conservation and education projects both locally and internationally.
Make a difference in their world and ours.
Meet Onassis, our giant South Am erican River turtle. She’s the oldest resident at the Zoo – rescued from fishing nets in the Amazon over 60 years ago. Pat the Cat is our wild-born jaguar who was saved from angry farmers in Belize and given a new hom e here. Guam kingfishers are one of the most end angered bird species on the planet – there are only 134 of these birds and five reside at the Zoo. Jointly with the Zoo, the Society sup ports Humboldt penguin studies in Chile providing crucial information on penguin ecology and censuses. We are also recognized internation ally for spearheading the world’s leading bonobo conserv ation program – the Bonobo and Congo Biodiversity Init iative.
