Halloween Critters
Year-round, these living symbols of Halloween can be found right here at Zoo Miami. Some may find them creepy and crawly, but the more you get to know them, the less scary they can be!
BATS
Not-so-scary fact: Bats are responsible for the pollination of over 300 species of fruits! They help to spread seeds for things like nuts, figs, and even cacao - that's right, the main ingredient in chocolate. (Imagine a Halloween without chocolate, now THAT'S a scary thought!)
OWLS
Not-so-scary fact: Owls are farsighted, so they actually have trouble seeing things that are very close to their eyes.
SNAKES
Not-so-scary fact: Unlike lots of other animals, snakes don’t have external ears to listen with. Instead, they use special bones in their jaws to pick up vibrations around them.
Frogs
Not-so-scary fact: Frogs don’t drink water like we do. Instead, they just absorb water directly through their thin and porous skin!
