影展的話 Words from WMW, Taiwan
近幾年影展成為公家和商業爭相辦理的快時尚,持續增長的影展量和越來越短缺的經費,讓 女影的籌備越來越顯艱難。不過今年女影是笑看人生困頓,豁然開朗的一年一影展不必然是 種競爭,性別並非得你死我活,既然考驗與羈絆難以避免,何不與它翩然共舞?本屆影展主 題「與羈絆/伴共舞 Rave in Peace」即表達上述精神:拼貼構圖且明亮多彩的主視覺,藉由 擁抱與陪伴、沉思與智慧、幽默與創意、影像與專業等悠然姿態和神韻,營造不同女性以幽 默面對困境,舞出生命的堅定與風采。 本屆主題亦呼應今年女影將聚焦討論的議題:近幾年長照成為政府與民間關注的話題,與羈 絆/伴共舞討論照顧與被照顧兩方所經歷的愛恨情仇;同時,我們也解放女性情慾的羈絆, 情色解碼:暴衝腦內啡將大膽挑逗觀眾味蕾,超限剖析情色(erotica)與色情(pornography) 間的「高潮」迭起。本單元絕非普級,非禮勿視。 性別平等的推動一直是女性影展的核心動力,女人 94 正典單元集結各式各樣動人的女性故 事載體,捍衛女人的思想與話語權。非一般酷兒想像的此酷非彼酷,開幕片《查維拉:女人 別為我哭泣》即顛覆觀眾對酷兒生活、音樂及大眾文化的刻板想像。 除了議題導向,創新電影手法也是今年一大特色。電影既視 無懈形式集結女導演在電影風 格上的嶄新突破 ,例如閉幕片《卡爾梅克的海鷗》絕美的視覺風格,即為女影挹注充滿能量 的影像敘事脈動。台灣競賽自去年開始邀請國際人士參與評選,藉由此競賽機會,讓更多國 內女導演作品綻放國際舞台。 今年影展活動依然值得矚目;除了議題講座與論壇、市集和好康活動之外,我們整合雙北資 源,將主戰場勢力延伸,與新北市社會局合作辦理一系列「新北新勢力」的系列活動。 羈絆或許是一種壓力,但也是無比可貴的動力,在此感謝影展路上,一路相伴的女影好友們。 2017 第 24 屆台灣國際女性影展

In recent years, film festivals have become a fad that governments and commercial enterprises increasingly like to participate in. The fierce competition brought about by a growing number of festivals, diminishing funding and shortage of financial support ─ these factors have also led Women Make Waves Film Festival into a difficult situation. However, this situation doesn’t push us into despair, but rather lets us face it head on, with confidence and smiles on our faces. Beyond competition, the relationship between film festivals also opens opportunities, just like the dynamics in gender politics do not imply competition, but liberation of all. Since ordeals and fetters are unavoidable, why not just dance with them peacefully? This year’s theme of WMWFF Rave in Peace carries this spirit. As this year’s festival poster expresses, the festival’s goal is to present different ways for women to deal with difficulties by means of embracing and accompanying, humor and creativity, thoughtfulness and wisdom, and above all, perseverance to show professionalism in filmmaking. So let’s keep dancing in the dark, raving in peace and courageously embracing the charm of life. The theme also highlights the main topic we would like to discuss this year: Long-term care has become a highly debated issue. Once the relationship between “caregivers” and “those being taken care of” exists, there is no escape from this intimate yet conflicted tension. The Entangled Dance touches on its struggles. Meanwhile, here comes the liberation of female desire, Xposed: Eroticism as Subversion celebrates the diverse erotic landscape of porn and erotica, and invites you into an orgasm wonderland that you have never experienced before. The promotion of gender equality has always been one of the missions of WMWFF. There's Always a Woman includes diverse types of women’s stories, speaking out loud to defend women’s rights, her story and her discourse. Beyond Queerness attempts to go beyond our imagination and stereotypes about queerness, and guide us onto a bigger dance floor, welcoming all kinds of possibilities and celebrations. Our Opening Film Chavela is a tour de force of such films. Besides its issues-oriented focus, WMWFF this year also features a cinematic treat embracing a novel language. A Perfect Shot explores new cinema within realms rather unfamiliar to the Taiwanese audience. For example, our Closing Film The Gulls from Russia demonstrates mesmerizing picturesque visuals that energize its narration. Taiwan Competition invites international film professionals as jury members since last year, hoping to open up opportunities for Taiwanese female directors to be seen on the international stage. Beyond film itself, this year’s events are noteworthy as well. WMWFF’s forums, lectures and market are mustattend events for sure. The festival has also extended its territory into New Taipei City, holding a series of events that will definitely surprise you. Fetters can be pressure, but they can be valuable motivation, too. Here, we would like to sincerely thank our friends who have accompanied us on the road along the way.

WMWFF in Taiwan invites international filmmakers and festival directors to take part in the festival every year. We also launch diverse forums and events, focusing on trends around the world and activities in Taiwan.
Talks on the Road: Justice for Aborigine Topics such as land justice and environmental protection have burst out in Taiwan vibrantly in recent years. This year we present a special screening of Angry Inuk by inviting Taiwanese aborigines to share their thoughts and views on land issues, and also to discuss the deprived “justice” the aborigines deserve.

In Focus: The Diverse Forms of Bonds Created by Long-term Care The phenomenon of intimate interpersonal relations turning into the antagonistic positions of “the ones being taken care of” and “caretakers”, and thus into a complicated and hard to avoid love-hate type of relationship, is something we experience daily. In our day and age, longterm care is among the most pressing issues for governments and civil society. Political initiatives, news media and women’s organizations all constantly emphasize the issue’s urgency. Some of us might not be involved in these difficult relationships yet, but all of us have to be well-prepared to face such indivisible ties for better or worse.

Jury members for Taiwan Competiion 初選評審 Members of First Selection Jury
朱芷瑩 ZHU Zhi-Ying 國立台北藝術大學戲劇系畢。受賴聲川青睞,曾於表演工作坊《如 夢之夢》擔綱女主角,並以《新丁花開》榮獲第 50 屆金鐘獎戲劇 節目女主角獎。 As a student, ZHU Zhi-Ying caught the attention of influential playwright and theatre director Stan LAI, starring in Lai’s epic play A Dream Like A Dream in 2005. She won the Golden Bell Award for Best Leading Actress in 2015.
吳凡 WU Fan 長期從事策展、製片、企劃工作,多次擔任文化部、金馬影展等 評審。現任台灣國際紀錄片影展活動統籌、國立台北藝術大學電 影創作學系兼任講師。 WU Fan has long been engaged in film industry and festivals. She is currently Administrative Coordinator of Taiwan International Documentary Festival, university lecturer, and board member of Taiwan Women's Film Association. She also authored the books Film Production and Film Festival.
周旭薇 CHOU She-Wei 導演、編劇及製片,長年關注家庭及性別議題。作品《家好月圓》 獲首爾國際女性影展亞洲短片競賽評審團大獎;《金孫》曾入圍 台北電影節最佳劇情片。 CHOU She-Wei is a producer and director. She engages in debates of family and gender. Her works won a nomination at Taipei Film Awards and a prize at the 11th Seoul International Women's Film Festival, and have been shown at festivals internationally.
胡敏華 HU Min-Hua 國立彰化師範大學輔導與諮商研究所教學碩士班。曾任教育部性 別教育專業人才庫講師、臺灣性別平等教育協會理事,現為羅東 高中輔導教師。 HU Min-Hua majored in social work, guidance and counseling. She has worked as lecturer, a member of the Yilan Gender Equality Education Committee, and a board member of the Taiwan Gender Equity Education Association. HU is now a high school counselor.

決選評審 Members of Final Selection Jury 三木草子 MIKI Soko (日本) 1970 年代開始參與女性解放運動,著有《從女人走向女人》,編 輯過《日本女性解放資料史》等書籍。現任日本大阪銀髮女性影 展策展人。 MIKI Soko participated in the women's liberation movement since the 1970s. She published the newsletter From Women to Women for 18 years, and is a co-editor of The Documentary History of Women's Liberation in Japan. Now, she is the director of Senior Women’s Film Festival Osaka.
張亦絢 Nathalie CHANG 小說家及影評人,巴黎第三大學電影及視聽研究所碩士。作品曾 入選同志文學選,著有散文《小道消息》及長篇小說《永別書: 在我不在的時代》等書。 A writer and film critic. She holds a master's degree in Film Studies from the Université de Paris III: Sorbonne Nouvelle. Her major work, I'm leaving (2015), was nominated for TIBE Book Prize.
鴻鴻 Hung Hung 詩人、劇場及電影編導。曾獲金馬獎最佳原著劇本獎,現為「黑 眼睛文化」及「黑眼睛跨劇團」藝術總監,任教於國立台北藝術 大學電影系。 As poet, theatre and film director, Hung Hung has won several awards at major international film festivals. He is currently the artistic director of Dark Eyes Ltd and Dark Eyes Performance Lab.
鄺珮詩 Teresa KWONG (香港) 積極推動電影及媒體藝術,現為香港藝術中心節目總監;多次擔 任國際電影節評審,替海外文化機構策劃亞洲電影及短片專題放 映。 KWONG is currently the Programme Director of Hong Kong Arts Centre. She is committed to nurturing creative talents in the entire region. She has been on juries of international film festivals, and has been invited overseas to promote Asian independent cinema.

Programmer 王君琦 WANG Chun-Chi 美國南加大電影電視批判研究博士,現任國立東華大學英美 語文學系副教授。 WANG is Associate Professor of the English Department at National Dong Hwa University. She received her Ph.D. in Critical Studies from the School of Cinematic Arts at University of Southern California.
江郁欣 Joyce CHIANG 國立高雄師範大學性別教育研究所,曾任台灣國際女性影展 國際聯絡、高雄電影節字幕統籌、紀錄短片《種一個家》共 同導演、〈SLUTS X LEZ 女同志色情影像展〉共同策展人。 CHIANG has worked as international coordinator of WMWFF, subtitle proofreader and coordinator of Kaohsiung Film Festival, co-curator of SLUTS X LEZS, and also as co-director of the short documentary Zhong Yi Ge Jia. She’s currently studying at National Kaohsiung Normal University Graduate Institute of Gender Education.
陳慧穎 CHEN Huei-Yin 紐約哥倫比亞大學電影研究碩士,曾任紐約錄像與實驗片影 展(VAEFF)助理策展人兼研究執行長,現任台灣國際女性影 展選片人兼節目統籌。 CHEN received her MA in Film Studies from Columbia University. She has been involved in several film curatorial affairs and research projects related to Asian Cinema, experimental films, and video installation arts in museum contexts in both New York and Taiwan.
黃慧敏 Teresa HUANG 美國紐約市立大學電影研究所碩士,現於國家電影中心擔任 數位修復組組長。 HUANG received her MA in Cinema Studies from the College of Staten Island, City University of New York. She currently works as Head of the Digital Restoration Department at Taiwan Film Institute.
羅珮嘉 Pecha LO 美國加州州立大學 Northridge 分校廣電系學士,英國倫敦大 學 Birkbeck 分校電影史與視覺藝術碩士。現任台灣國際女性 影展策展人、社團法人台灣女性影像學會秘書長。 LO received her bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting from California State University Northridge, and her master’s degree in Film History and Visual Arts from University of London, Birkbeck. She is currently the festival director of WMWFF and TWFA.

It is about love, with the characters intuitively fulfilling forgotten traditions. Their love is silent and their sorrow without tears. The seagulls are souls of dead fishermen, broken boats, and hope. Elza, the fisherman’s wife, wants to leave her husband but cannot take this step because she is afraid of uncertainty.

Following the death of her parents, six-year-old Frida faces the first summer with her new adoptive family in the Catalan province. In a remote little village, Gana looks after the elderly suffering from dementia, at the same time she traffics their ID cards on the black market. They always believed when their parents died, they would be able to do things they weren’t allowed to before, like living on their own, having sex, being parents, getting married, and having a real job. The multinational Genom Corporation is developing a product called the "I.K.U. Chip", which is plugged into a portable device allowing consumers to download and experience orgasms from the I.K.U. server without need for physical contact. The corporation sends their cybernetic shapeshifter Reiko, known as an I.K.U. Coder or replicant, to collect orgasm-related information catering to various sexual orientations.

Interweaving the personal and political, the film builds an intimate portrait of Israel and its internal struggle, often drowned out by the conflict at its borders. The very question of Israel being an LGBT “champion” is controversial; some accuse the country of “pink washing”. This is an allegation that promoting LGBT culture is a way of detracting from human rights violations in the Palestinian Territories.

It is about love, with the characters intuitively fulfilling forgotten traditions. Their love is silent and their sorrow without tears. The seagulls are souls of dead fishermen, broken boats, and hope. Elza, the fisherman’s wife, wants to leave her husband but cannot take this step because she is afraid of uncertainty.

This documentary shows the wisdom and humorous strategies that the Inuit apply, for instance using social media as a weapon, and does so in a very inspiring way!

自 2014 年起,女性影展將一直以來的台灣徵件單元提升為競賽單元,並設立「台灣競賽獎」獎金,以鼓勵台灣女 性影像工作者。今年初審由朱芷瑩、吳凡、周旭薇、胡敏華等四位評審老師,從百餘部作品中,精選出 17 部入圍 影片。女影致力於將台灣影片推向國際,邀請了日本策展人三木草子、香港策展人鄺珮詩、台灣策展人鴻鴻及作 家暨影評人張亦絢,四位老師共同進行作品決選。獎項分別為首獎一名、特獎兩名、評審團特別獎及觀眾票選獎 各一名,將於 10 月 22 日進行頒獎典禮。

This year, our first round review jury has selected a short list of 17 films from husdreds of works. WMWFF aims to promote Taiwanese films on the international stage, and invites festival director from Japan MIKI Soko, festival director from Hong Kong Teresa KWONG, festival director from Taiwan Hung Hung, and author and also film critics Nathalie CHANG, as our jury members for the final selection of the Taiwan Competition. There will be one Grand Prize, two Merit Prizes, one Special Award and one Audience Award. The final award winners will be announced at the closing ceremony.

Taiwanese photographer Lin Li-Fang undertook a solo journey up 4,270 meters into the Himalayan Plateau and captured a life devoted to hope and faith and a people possessing a unique kind of tolerance, humility, and perseverance. 1965 年出生於雲林縣台西鄉;1993 年畢業於法國里昂 CTI 攝影學 院;1989 年擔任天下雜誌攝影記者,開過四次攝影個展;1999 年 開始印度之旅,記錄藏傳佛教僧侶在印度的學習與生活;2000 年 獲得台灣金鼎獎雜誌攝影個人獎;2002 年始投入紀錄片創作; 2005 年獲 Jonny Walker 夢想資助計畫圓夢學堂;多部作品深受法 國、荷蘭、日本等多國影展肯定。 LIN Li-Fang studied Photography at CTI College in France, where she graduated in 1993. 橋頭糖廠曾造就二十世紀初台灣的經濟風貌;1999 年正式停 工,劃下休止符。在這片翻騰的土地,「百年樹人」守住了 這塊遺址,讓漂流藝術家有了另類的駐足領域。他們以海洋 的視角與山林的縱深,看見一同生活在島嶼的多元族群,其 豐富奔放的藝術能量,小心翼翼與所謂「主流」保持距離, 維持著自身的邊緣性、獨立性、在地性、批判性與曖昧性。 歷經農夫與工人的血汗辛勞,與這群另類藝術家的文化揮灑, 百年糖廠舞台終將謝幕,只是這場謝幕,沒有觀眾。 The curtain fell on the history of the century-old sugar refinery, where farmers and workers spent their youth labouring hard. Later, the artists took over, toiling for twenty more years. They too had to leave eventually, one after another. This time the curtain falls again, but without any audience. 十多年來總是耗時盡力地投入每部影片創作,作品如《無米樂》及《牽阮的手》。《無 米樂》獲選「影史百大華語電影」之一,兩人亦因此並列兩岸三地五十大華語導演之一。 YEN and CHUANG have been filming documentaries since the heavy earthquake that struck Taiwan on September 21, 1999. 在台灣,生產過程的非必要性醫療介入情況嚴重,產婦自 主權極低,因此容易感到無助與恐懼,連帶造成生育率下 降。本片記錄嘉霙與嘉黛兩位助產師姊妹,以及幾位產婦 的生產過程,藉此勇敢挑戰體制,將身體作為舞台,試圖 喚起醫界、政府與民眾對生育自主的重視,讓生產不再是 冰冷的標準流程,而是母親與孩子愛的旅程。

描述一對以手語溝通的同志戀人,雖然無法言語,但感情 比任何情侶都還熱烈。本片摒棄時間的連貫性,運用零碎 片段的結構,堆疊兩位女主角反覆為了日常小事彼此推擠、 拍打、吶喊且彼此丟擲物品的故事。以失戀 X 哲學 X 實驗 影像的概念,呈現這對已經分手的戀人,使用手語與肢體 語言溝通傳遞,亦體現出無聲以對的觀影經驗。 Telling the story of a lesbian couple only communicating through sign language, the film abandons the coherence of time and uses a fragmented structure to construct the narrative. Abandoning spoken dialogues and only using sign and body language, the film gives the audience an experience of this silent communication.
