The 23-year old youth identified as Farooq Ahmad Bhat was critically injured along with two other persons after police opened fire on protesters in the Palhallan. However, Farooq succumbed to his injuries later triggering protests and clashes. According to witnesses, thousands of people including women staged massive pro-freedom and anti-India protests in the Palhallan before and after the funeral of the youth while his body was taken in procession to local Eidgah for funeral. Soon after funeral, people took the youth in procession to local martyrs’ graveyard where he was buried amid sobs and tears. 600 banned drug strips seized, 3 held in Srinagar Srinagar, Feb 10: (GNS) Police Tuesday claimed to have recovered more than 600 banned drug strips and arrested three drug peddlers during a naka near Iqbal Park area of Saraiballa Srinagar. A police official told Srinagar-based news agency GNS that during a Naka near Iqbal Park area, police team from Shergardi apprehended three drug peddlers identified as Adil Faroq of Rambagh, Wasim Raja Matta of Natipora and Wajid Ashraf Bhat of Kantbagh Chadoora and recovered 600 Spasmo Proxymon strips from their possession. “The tablets are highly harmful and are used by drug addicts for psychotropic high. The Spasmo Proxyvon contains dextropropoxyphene which is a weak opioid (opium-like) agent,” the official said. “FIR no 06/2015 has been registered under section 8/22 NDPS act,” the official said, adding that the percentage of drug menace has certainly increased. “We will continue the drive against drug peddlers as the menace has affected the society to very much extent. Shah..... why you did not call for elections in Delhi along with that of other state assemblies? Kejriwal and AAP had started working for assembly elections almost as soon as the Lok Sabha elections were over. We could all see the party working on the ground and were apprehensive that they would recover lost ground. But you ignored those signals. You could have called elections after the BJP did exceedingly well in those state assembly elections. Delhi elections could have been called along with Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand elections. But you did nothing and allowed AAP working quietly but surely to gain strength. What else could explain why you did not address the many civic issues Delhi faces — especially issues related to the lower middle class that AAP targets – even though Delhi was under central rule and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi was dominated by your party? You had eight months, control of the Delhi government and the urban local body and you did zilch. Sheila Dixit asked “who is Arvind Kejriwal” and paid the price. Neither of you used such words, but completely ignoring the AAP was something very similar and now you have paid the price. I am angry because of the humiliation of Delhi’s leaders who have devoted their lives to working for the party. Many of these people have built up personal relations with their constituents. When Harsh Vardhan was shifted out of the health ministry, many of us were glad that he is being freed up for the Delhi elections. But that did not happen. You put him in an insignificant portfolio and kept him there. And on top of that you parachute Kiran Bedi as chief ministerial candidate. I decided on Nota that very day. My mother got completely put off when Bedi summoned BJP MPs and councillors for a meeting and started talking as if she were already chief minister. She may not even have gone to vote if it were not for personal relations with the candidate. You may now blame it on internal sabotage. There was no need for sabotage. That one act had completely demoralised party workers and put off steady supporters/sympathisers. And this kind of mood spreads. Perhaps Bedi was brought in because of the squabbling in the Delhi unit of the party. But it doesn’t say very much for either of you if you have failed to put an end to this wrangling. Many of the young-ish upstarts would not have dared to openly jockey for the chief minister’s post if you had put your weight behind older leaders who inspired confidence among many of us. But you did not do so. I am angry with your taking in people from AAP, especially Shazia Ilmi and Kiran Bedi. Shazia Ilmi had attacked you, Mr Modi, savagely when she was in AAP. How could she be allowed into the party? I am also angry with you for your failure to check the Hindutva fringe elements and condemn ‘ramzadon vs haramzadon’ kind of remarks. Your statement in Parliament seeking to rationalise the remark in the light of the minister’s background was shameful. Like I said, I come from a BJP supporting family, but such remarks do not go down well with many like us. This kind of polarisation may work in the hinterlands of large states, not in a city like Delhi. I was also puzzled by your silence on the church attacks. When the first attack in Trilokpuri happened, I sensed something fishy. The Jan Sangh and the BJP have been in a dominant position in Delhi ever since I can remember, but churches have never been targeted. Why was it happening suddenly now? This was clearly a mischievous attempt at communal polarisation and to show that minorities were in danger under a BJP government. But there was no attempt to show up the people behind these attacks. Which led to either of two conclusions. One, that some Hindu fringe outfits were behind these attacks and that is why you were silent. Two, the government’s intelligence machinery was not up to the task. Neither of the two scenarios inspired any confidence in your government. Or did you hope that even though Hindu groups were not behind the attacks, your silence would reap you some electoral gains from the Hindus? If you did, that was a mistake. Because that lost you a lot of votes that would otherwise have gone to the Congress. Some Christian friends of mine had voted for you in May. That is another reason I am angry. You should have gone aggressively after the Congress votes immediately after the Lok Sabha elections, but you chose to ignore Delhi and focus on other states. In your effort for a Congress-mukt Bharat, what you gave us was a BJP-mukt Delhi. None of us expected the BJP to do so badly. We are not deriving vicarious pleasure out of this, as Congress
sympathisers are. But there is a certain indifference to the BJP’s plight, a sense that this was inevitable given the way the two of you treated Delhi-ites – as a little child that would rush to oblige you whenever you asked. That was your big mistake.

Congress stalwart Ajay Maken who led party’s election campaign was pushed to third spot with AAP candidate Som Dutt winning the Sadar Bazar seat. Dutt defeated BJP’s Praveen Jain with a margin of over 33,000 votes. BJP leader Jagdish Mukhi was defeated by Rajesh Rishi of AAP by a margin of over 25,500 votes. Almost all the veterans of the BJP and Congress had to bite the dust. Taking responsibility of the party’s defeat, Ajay Maken resigned from AICC General Secretary post. An upswing of 24.8 per cent votes in AAP’s fortune over the last elections, culminated in an overwhelming 95 per cent seat share for the party in Delhi Assembly. Of the total votes cast, a whopping 54.3 per cent of vote share came into AAP’s kitty. On the contrary, the vote percentage of Bhartiya Janata Party fell by almost one per cent. It secured 32.2 per cent of votes in comparison to the 33.1 per cent which the party had managed during the last Assembly Elections. BJP, however, could not translate their vote share into seats in the Saturday’s election. Congress fared the worst bagging merely 9.7 per cent of votes as against 24.6 per cent during the last polls. This significant fall in it’s vote percentage is vivid from the fact that the party failed to register even a single win. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal on his party’s win in Delhi Assembly elections. In a tweet, Modi said that he spoke to Kejriwal and assured him of the Centre’s support in the development of Delhi. Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi have also congratulated Kejriwal. Rahul Gandhi said, his party respects the people’s mandate. BJP Chief Ministerial candidate Kiran Bedi on BJP’s defeat apologised for not being able to prove up to the expectations of the party. She thanked the BJP leadership for reposing faith in her and also the people for the support rendered to her. BJP today said that the Centre will support Delhi Government in its endeavours without any political bias. Briefing media in New Delhi, Party leader and Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, BJP will play the role of constructive opposition in the assembly. He said, party’s vote share in this election has slightly declined and party has suffered badly in terms of seats. Prasad said the party accepts defeat with humility and will analyze the reasons behind the poll debacle. He congratulated AAP and its leader Arvind Kejriwal on their victory and hoped that Kejriwal will work to fulfill the promises and give good governance to Delhi. Messages have been pouring in for the Aam Aadmi Party, AAP and its chief Arvind Kejriwal on its historic win in the Delhi assembly polls. Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray said, the result amounted to defeat for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Addressing a press conference in Mumbai, Thackeray termed the AAP victory in Delhi as a tsunami. Taking a swipe at the BJP, Thackeray said, the tsunami is mightier than the Modi wave. He said, the Aam Aadmi Party’s astounding victory has proved once again that people of the country should not be taken for granted at any time. Thackeray said, the Delhi outcome was not merely a reversal of the Lok Sabha verdict in the capital but went much beyond. The Sena Chief also said that Kejriwal must live up to the confidence reposed in him by the people of Delhi and should not commit the mistake of resigning from the CM’s post this time. Thackeray added that he would attend the oath-taking ceremony of AAP government in Delhi, if invited. The Nationalist Congress Party too congratulated the Aam Aadmi Party. Maharashtra NCP Chief spokesperson Nawab Malik said, the people of Delhi have dismissed the BJP’s brand of politics based on arrogance, false promises and a non-secular ideology. He said that the Delhi verdict has paved the way for a BJP-free nation. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also congratulated AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal for his party’s massive win in the Delhi Assembly polls. Speaking to reporters in Mumbai, Fadnavis said, the BJP will do necessary introspection for its loss.
