• Confirm you are eligible for the scholarship and meet all criteria. • Gather certificates and letters of recommendations at the earliest. • Order a sufficient number of transcripts, especially before the school year ends. • Some schools allow applications for multiple scholarships. Make sure you take advantage of this where possible. • Start to apply early - prepare in advance and give yourself enough time to complete the application • Keep track of which scholarships you have applied for and their deadlines on an excel sheet • Only apply to scholarships and schools where you can commute. • Ask for feedback on any essays from peers and teachers, and make sure they are proofread thoroughly. • Do a practice/rough copy before completing the real application. • Practice interview skills beforehand. • Understand any contingencies of the scholarships. For example, some require you to study for a year or two before you apply; graduate from their school; or you may have to repay the scholarship. • Contact schools if you are unsure about scholarship details. • Give priority to scholarships that have a smaller applicant pool and multiple awards. • Know that you are important and worthy regardless of the outcome of your scholarship application or your grades!
