TITLE SPONSOR Foreword

My darling Rusy always said, “Think positive. When there’s hope, there’s a way”. Indeed, hope gives us the motivation to face life’s challenges. Hope increases our self-worth and self-confidence

At The Zubin Foundation, “Giving Hope, Changing Lives” is not only a slogan, but an action.

The Foundation’s Family Centre located at the Austin MTR Station provides free counselling services for ethnic minority children and adults. The Foundation’s Diversity List of high-calibre ethnic minorities helps the HKSAR Government select suitable candidates to serve on its Advisory and Statutory Bodies

Since its inception, The Zubin Foundation has been playing an important role in advocating minority rights and fostering diversity in Hong Kong. Let us join hands with the Foundation to make this lovely city an even better place to live, work and visit.

Mrs Purviz R. Shroff, MH

Mrs. Shroff along with Rusy & Purviz Shroff Charitable Foundation which was established in 2017 have been supporting various charities which provide services for the elderly, children, patients with chronic diseases, people with disability as well as the underprivileged communities in Hong Kong, China, India and throughout the world. Their efforts sustain and reinforce the lasting philanthropic values of the Ruttonjees, a Parsee family who left India in 1884 to make Hong Kong their home.

THE ZUBIN FOUNDATION Foreword

Dear Friends,

Thank you for being here to support The Zubin Foundation’s Annual Fundraising Dinner 2024 Our theme tonight is, “Giving Hope, Changing Lives”, and we come together to give hope to the most vulnerable individuals in the ethnic minority community of Hong Kong

I hope I may ask you to give generously tonight Through the very kind donation of our Title Sponsor, Auntie Purviz, and the late Uncle Rusy, all the costs of this evening have been covered, and therefore 100% of all funds raised this evening will go towards directly to support our work of The Zubin Foundation in the next year

In 2023, The Zubin Foundation directly improved the lives of 12,000 individuals from ethnic minority low-income families, and we have witnessed three worrying trends. One, we are seeing an increase in severe anxiety and depression caused by COVID-19 and bullying where many young children are suffering from self-harm and suicidal tendencies. Two, we have received more referrals of ethnic minority children who are terminally ill and need happiness and education. And three, many ethnic minority elderly men and women across Hong Kong are socially isolated and lonely.

Tonight, we dedicate to them.

The Zubin Foundation had an eventful 2023 and I encourage you to review highlights from our Impact Report 2023 on page 6 of this event book and read the full report on our website. You will find our financials, testimonials from our service users and impact numbers.

Tonight, has been made possible by the Fundraising Committee chaired by Ranoo Wasan and vice chaired by Don Taylor. Thank you too to our Fundraising Committee members and my board of directors This evening is a testament to your commitment to all that we do at The Zubin Foundation May I wish you a wonderful evening and once again With blessings and gratitude to each of you

The Zubin Foundation

FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE Foreword

I am delighted and honoured to welcome you to The Zubin Foundation’s 5th Annual Fundraising Dinner 2024.

Tonight, our objective is to showcase the critical work by Shalini and her team to improve the lives of Hong Kong’s ethnic minorities. This community is one of the most marginalised with one in four people living in poverty. Through the course of the evening, you will bear witness to stories from people who were given hope and their lives changed by The Zubin Foundation’s incredible community outreach work.

The past few years have been tough for all of us, and more so for low-income ethnic minority families Through these testing times, The Zubin Foundation has been there for the community providing food, free counselling for adults and children, supporting the elderly, helping ethnic minority youth break the cycle of inter-generational poverty through education and employment and creating a safe haven for women in distress. In order to continue doing this meaningful and important work, we need your help.

Tonight, 100% of your donations will go directly to The Zubin Foundation This is possible because of the generosity of our Title Sponsor, Purviz R Shroff, MH, and her late husband Rusy M., who have kindly agreed to cover the costs of this evening. So, I ask you to please donate generously and extend your support to The Zubin Foundation.

This evening could not have been possible without Shalini and her team, as well as the Fundraising Committee I express my sincere gratitude for all their hard work in putting together tonight’s event

I hope you enjoy the evening and ask that you please give generously to support this truly worthwhile cause.

increased significantly and we have seen this in enhanced self-harm, suicidal ideations and planning, and even failed suicide attempts. Many feel alone. We receive referrals from government schools and social workers. Our Children’s Counselling Centre provides one-to-one counselling therapy alongside assistance to the family.

We work with 30 children and each child receives 25 sessions, and their parents receive support. There are another 30 children and their families who need this service.

It costs The Zubin Foundation HK$15,000 to provide services to one child and their family.

Pledges HK$10,000

The Zubin Foundation provides education, and activities for terminally ill ethnic minority children from very low-income families, who have limited time to live.

The children live restricted lives because they spend most of the week, each week, in the hospital receiving medical treatments such as dialysis and checking feeding tubes, etc. They miss out on time with friends, learning and their parents live in fear of them catching infections. We provide each child with a tailored approach through one-on-one tutoring, purchasing material for activities, sanitizing Zubin’s Family Centre multiple times.

HK$10,000 is our monthly cost to support terminally ill children and their families. We need 24 months of support for this work.

Picture: Sahil, 8, and Seema, 4, are terminally ill children who receive English and Chinese tutorials from us and are seen here in front of our donated books, which they love to take home.

#3 Lifeline for Elderly HK$2,500

Last year, you all met Dolly Aunty. She is 81 years old, lives in public housing and before The Zubin Foundation, had no family or support network. She lived with her husband who shortly after our last fundraising dinner, sadly passed away. We have continued to provide support to Dolly Aunty with the funeral, the final rites, and her ongoing health and emotional issues. We have learned that there are many ethnic minority elderly who live isolated lives.

Each week we bring 100 elderly people to Zubin’s Family Centre. We provide them with training on how to look after their health, manage their doctor visits, and a chance to have fun through arts and crafts. We have given them a lifeline to hope and care.

HK$2,500 helps us provide one elderly person with weekly activities for the full year. We work with 100 elderly.

Picture: Dolly Aunty, 81 years old with volunteers from The Zubin Foundation team clearing up and painting her home after the death of her husband, Lal Uncle. We provide her with ongoing support.
