and operated by the De Nijs family for 100 years, this is a real family firm with a board of directors still made up of members of the De Nijs family. All are closely involved in the company’s projects, and that makes it a great place to work, project developer Eltjo Hamster affirms.

From office block to apartments The company also loves a challenge. You won’t find them planting production-line houses in pastures. Because M.J. De Nijs en Zonen are all about sustainable building. They’re best known for construction and renovation projects in and around Amsterdam – projects that tend to unfold on construction sites where space is tight.

The Mayor is such a site. Originally built as an office, the property was completed in 1991, but wound up vacant after just 18 years. It was never leased again and the building has been tenantless since 2009. M.J. De Nijs en Zonen signed on for the challenge and are currently converting the office block into new residential buildings with luxury penthouses, apartments and garden apartments.

“This project is really a perfect match with De Nijs’ vision,” Eltjo Hamster explains. Known for their work on urban and often complex projects, “these kinds of logistical puzzles are an adventure for us, so it came as no surprise that this was a project De Nijs were keen to sink their teeth into.”

Luxury penthouses and apartments The penthouses and apartments offer up to 212m² of unparalleled luxury. And a blank canvas for the first residents, as units can be configured and furnished to suit your taste.

Come for a viewing, and you’ll be amazed at the vast windows that seem to dissolve the division between inside and outside space. A phenomenal view greets you every morning and sends you off to sleep at night. The bedrooms and the spacious living room with open-plan kitchen have sliding doors giving onto an outdoor terrace. Welcome home to the ultimate freedom. Where you can get away from it all, entertain friends and celebrate life – every day!

M-Exclusive M-Exclusive makes living in The Mayor even more comfortable and convenient, with a range of facilities and services tailored for and provided exclusively to residents. Already planned are a gym and coffee corner, as well as arrangements for parcel delivery, dry cleaning and taxi services. Uniquely, the building will have its own concierge.
