“ Architecture is so much more than just structures standing and providing services. It is a lifestyle that we create and interact with everyday and everywhere. It is a part of our daily lives and a representation of our culture, identity and place.

REDEFINING THE COMMERCIAL HUB OF DIMAPUR, NAGALAND. PROJECT - B.ARCH THESIS LOCATION- DIMAPUR, NAGALAND, INDIA
PROJECT TYPE - VERNACULAR ARCHITECTURE, PUBLIC SPACE DESIGN, COMMERCIAL DESIGN.
Nagaland, a small state in the north-eastern state of India, is one of many states undergoing through urban transition as a result of modernisation. The state is a proud home to 16 tribes, each with rich culture and tradition. The developing town in the state, one of which is Dimapur, already seem to be covered in concrete masses and there has always been a struggle of dominance between the already existing culture and heritage and the need to catch up with the western
The Idea of Dimapur transitioning into a more urbanised town along with the culture and tradition still intact and celebrated, conjured the need to design a certain space. A space that would not only accommodate the developing needs of an urbanising town, but also portray the true essence of the naga culture and tradition in their modern day to day lifestyle, Therefore creating a platform and identity for the culture and tradition blended together with the developing urban needs through architecture as a medium.

THE EXISTING PROGRAMME The main intention of the new design programme is to redevelop an already existing commercial space. which would help accommodate the different events and activities taking place, all in one harmony . The present design lacks certain qualities that could help initiate activities in that area. for eg, the daily market, the weekly market, trade fairs and other social events. Due to poor co-rdination and organisation of the designed spaces, the space under goes a very steep certain days Therefore the
and on some days its a total ghost town. new deign hopes to create a balance in the different

GROUND FLOOR PLAN The planing is elongated more horizontally than vertically, so that more open spaces could be incorporated between the design programme. The central lawn provides airy and comfortable green scape both for the public and the people working in uniformly repeated but the public area, which is more central lawn acts as a buffer-zone between these two spaces.

VERNACULAR INFLUENCES to a range of other recreational and social events. Old Naga villages and settlements helped understand and design a very vernacular environment right in the heart of the Town. Which made the elaborate naga culture and tradition be portrayed and experienced by the people not only living in the urban settlements but also the tourist and guests staying in the nearby hotels.

PROJECCT TYPE- ADAPTIVE REUSE, HERITAGE CONSERVATION. GROUP PROJECT
the rapid urbanization and expansion of hubs like Gurgaon, Badshahpur and Sohna. Access to the Village is vua Gurgaon sohna highway that is also undergoing transformation. Alipur also sits on the edge of nature and urbanization with aravali mountains on the west and a large water body, Jodh towards the lowest gradient on the east. 18

ALIPUR VILLAGE, HARYANA, INDIA MASTER PLAN
The project was divided into 4 groups and the analysis was carried out in various layers of Urban design. The economic, social, political, environmental and functional aspects were explored and various interventions were carried out individually leading to a sustainable urban development. In a group of 4 we studied and tried to understand the interaction-al activities happening in and around the village and Individually, I worked in creating a better space and landmark for social interaction by adaptively re using a heritage ruin.; To keep the culture and heritage helping create an identity and at the same time interacting and functioning with the present village fabric 19
TWO MAIN ACTIVITY GENERATING FACTORS
The streets are the most active parts of the village other than the banks, schools or any other commercial and institutional buildings. Alipur Village has interesting and variations of activities happening all around the nooks and corners of the street.

PROJECT - SUMMER INTERNSHIP LOCATION- DIMAPUR, NAGALAND, INDIA The park brief required an outdoor gym for the girls living in the hostel just right next to the park. It is one out of the few parks initiated by the government of Nagaland to be rejuvenated into an outdoor gym. With the brief in mind, the spaces in the park were solely based on creating a student friendly environment. Each and every corners were designed to be accessed easily and frequently. The park also caters a small kitchen garden so that the girls in the hostel can also grow their own kitchen garden and have access to eating healthy and being eco friendly. 26
PROJECT TYPE - GIRLS PARK AND OUTDOOR GYM
Interesting interactive areas were designed to help encourage social activities and interaction. Most importantly, an outdoor study environment is very much encouraged and catered by the park. The idea was to design the park in such a way that it is accessed through out the day and not left to its own wilderness.
TOPOGRAPHY AND CONCEPT
conceptual diagram this made the park a very prime area to not only have the view of the busy highway but also spectate the football matches.
the concept was to create a more organic pattern rather than a structured path because people normally like to take a stroll in a park.
the path for running is more regular and structured and is located on the outer perimeter of the park so that the runners are not interrupted and also longer distance can be covered from within the park.
