Our Inspiration Svalbard

Europe’s northern-most archipelago, Svalbard is set within the Arctic Circle halfway between Norway and the North Pole. A natural haven for polar bears, reindeer and arctic foxes, over 2,000 people live within the rugged landscape of islands that boasts some of Norway’s most exposed fjords, glaciers and coastlines.

Lyngen

The Lyngen Alps lie east of Tromsø in the principality of Lyngen in northeast Norway. Dominating the Lyngen Peninsula and surrounded by spectacular fjords, the Alpine-like mountain range boasts several glaciers and the region’s highest peak, Jiehkkevarri (1833 m). Popular with experienced mountain ski tourers, climbers and hikers.

Narvik

Located at the foot of Mt Fagernes (1200m), between two fjords, Narvik is the hidden jewel among Norwegian ski resorts. Boasting Scandinavia’s largest vertical drop and unbeatable backcountry conditions, is the purest freeriding experience, enhanced by its stunning landscape.

Lofoten

North of the Arctic Circle, the majestic Lofoten island chain is famous for its exceptional beauty, harsh contrasting weathers and unyielding environment. Framed by Alpine-style peaks and glaciers, craggy coastlines, an age-old cod fishing industry, and surreal light, Lofoten’s extreme elements are the very essence and soul of Norway’s outdoor life.

Trollveggen

Conquered in 1965, Trollveggen, the highest rock face in Europe, is the ultimate in steep and treacherous rock ­climbing. At over 1800m from base to peak, with 1000m vertical and 50m overhangs, Trollveggen’s face ensures only the most expert climb its walls.

Falketind

One of Norway’s iconic mountains, Falketind is renown for its impressive location, exceptional beauty and distinctive shape.

Set in the heart of Norway, at 2067m, mountaineers and hikers are challenged by rugged trails, glacial traverses, unforgiving terrain, yet rewarded with a breathtaking summit view.

Røldal

Situated between the cities of Oslo and Stavanger, the resort of Røldal is renown as the most snow-secure point in Norway.

One of northern Europe’s highest ski regions (1284 m) with its wide, open powder fields, steep mountain valleys and tree line trails, Røldal is suitable for any skiing ability whether on- or off-piste.

Norrøna/29

Family-owned and run since 1929, Norrøna’s recently reno­ vated headquarters is based in Hvalstad, on the outskirts of Oslo. The building blocks of every product - from concept to prototype, fitting to feedback, marketing to sales – are built by an experienced and dedicated team, in an openplan environment set to nurture the Norrøna spirit and inspire passion for technical innovation.

1977 Europe’s first Gore-Tex® jacket, made in 1977.

This jacket was based on Norrøna’s cotton mountain jacket. The seams were ­not taped.

1984 The first trollveggen jacket was made in 1979 in time for the first winter ascent of the Swedish Route up Trollveggen. The model was also used on the Norwegian expedition up Great Trango Tower in 1984 by Hans Christian Doseth, Finn Dæhlie, Dag Kolsrud and Stein P. Aasheim. Then, in 1985, the jacket was worn on the highly successful first Everest expedition, led by Arne Næss Jr.

Norrøna ­ trollveggen 30 years of innovation

1998 trollveggen Arch Wall made its arrival, extending the trollveggen concept.

It was launched in 1998, using the new Gore-Tex® XCR ­material. Among the jacket's claims to fame was the 1999 Trango Pulpit expedition by Robert Caspersen. Lots of new details - including Kevlar reinforcement, underarm ventilation and innovative pocket solutions.

2002 The trollveggen Arch Wall continued evolving and now featured the first stretch weave Gore-Tex® XCR and a variety of new details.

2007 trollveggen underwent further innovation in 2007, with addition of the new Gore-Tex® Pro Shell fabric.

The new garment was worn during the Antarctic Ulvetanna expedition of Robert Caspersen & Co.

2010 A new generation of trollveggen outerwear is launched. With Gore-Tex® Proshell fabric and the unique Aquaseal zipper from YKK. 100% waterproof and windproof. Read more about the history and the product on page 12.

3000-10 trollveggen Gore-Tex® Pro Shell Jacket (M/W) The first winter ascent of Trollveggen’s Swedish Route took place in 1980. The three young ­climbers Hans Christian Doseth, Håvard ­Nesheim and Kjetil Svanemyr wore the first edition of Norrøna’s trollveggen jacket and bib pants. Since then, trollveggen climbing jackets and pants have been part of innumerable ­expeditions, like the Norwegian Route up Great Trango Tower and the first Norwegian conquest of Mount Everest.

NEW 1191 Pop Red/ Tango Red

We now have the pleasure of launching a whole new generation of trollveggen outerwear – the mountaineer’s first choice. Gore-Tex® Pro Shell fabric can withstand a great deal of wear and tear. It makes for durable light jackets that keep out the elements. The unique new Aqua seal, YKK zipper is 100-percent waterproof and windproof.

Large X-shaped vents under the arms can be opened and shut from either direction. The hood is of course roomy enough for a helmet, and the overall cut of the jacket permits a great range of body motion, with or without your harness.

In short, we’ve packed 30 years of trollveggen expertise into a jacket that will be your best friend while mountaineering, ice climbing or high-alpine hiking.

down™750 Norrøna has a progressive policy towards the humane treatment of animals involved in our products and the reduction of environmental damage wherever possible.

Our down products use the highest available down quality that we can find, which is a by-product of the food industry (in contrast to being killed just for insulation). Our down comes from the mountains of Pyrenees in France where the birds spend the days outside in a free gazing environment.

The birds are raised on a diet of grain and corn and are not force fed. The down we use is from the breast area which has the highest fill power on the bird. All treatment of the birds complies with European standards and the highly specialized washing of the down passes the Oeko-Tex 100 standards.

Our down™750 means down fill power from 750 to 800 cu in/oz with the percentage of down cluster from 93-96%. In combination with either our PFOA free light weight nylon or our 100% PFOA free chemically recycled polyester shells; we are committed to offer the best quality with the least amount of damage.

PrimaLoft® One The human body spends a lot of energy keeping its optimal temperature, especially under cold conditions. PrimaLoft® One is a patented micro-structure that gives great thermal insulation to help the body maintain its temperature, minimizing energy loss. Extremely light and soft, it was originally developed by the US Army to replace natural down.

As down absorbs moisture, it becomes wet and loses its thermal-insulating abilities. PrimaLoft® One absorbs three times less water, is 14% warmer when dry and 24% warmer when wet, than the competitive insulation.

PrimaLoft® Sport Another excellent light loft insulation from PrimaLoft®.

Polartec® Thermal Pro® Thermal Pro® create air pockets that trap air and retain body heat, providing outstanding warmth without weight.

These fabrics offer excellent breathability and dry quickly.

Polartec® Power Stretch® A breathable, body-hugging 4-way stretch one side fleece designed to keep you drier when you sweat and provide warmth without added weight. Outside face is smooth to provide better freedom of movement under shells Polartec® Power dry® Stretch® Next to skin fabrics that keeps you comfortable, dry and moves with your body through every adventure. Designed to keep your skin dry when you sweat. Polartec® Power dry® feature a patented bi-component knit construction that use yams on either side of the fabric. This creates two different surfaces; one that is optimized to move moisture away from the skin, the other to dry quickly.

Polartec® Classic A lightweight warm and breathable fleece. This is original fleece offering unparalleled quality and durability from Polartec.

Eco-Engineering™ World leading high performance, eco-friendly fabric. This is not the scratchy stuff of yore. The fabric is highly technical and make no sacrifice in performance- all while reducing the environmental impact of the garment.

Other Materials pureOrganic™ Cotton Demand for cotton products has dramatically increased over the past two generations. Current intensive production methods use over a quarter of the planet’s pesticides. These chemicals take their toll on human health, the environment, depleting soil and polluting water. Every t-shirt made of conventional cotton is composed of 27% toxic residues on average. Organic cotton is produced without the use of any harmful pesticides, harsh chemical bleaches, or dyes, and is allergy-free. Advances in natural fertilizers and pest control have allowed organic cotton farming to become a viable enterprise. Norrøna is committed to using pure organic materials wherever possible.

SuperFabric® A protective fabric constructed for optimum resistance to cuts, abrasions and intense wear and tear. Highly flexible, cut into any shape or size, SuperFabric® is glued onto the base fabric to provide its renowned armour-like toughness.

YKK Aquaseal® zipper Aquaseal® zippers are a recent addition to YKK's watertight and water repellent product line. They are perfect for all sorts of gear where water and air tightness is a must.

Smoother and more flexible, they offer optimum protection thanks to the film-coated tape and the innovative zip element mechanism that seal the zipper completely. This is the first truly waterproof zipper provided on Norrøna products.
